Nissan Skyline R32 1989 rb20det 5 speed 80,000ks with a genuine service history (books and stickers) silvery/grey in colour unmarked duco no scratches or dents. Interior is also imaculate. seats have no ware marks or rips . Carpets have had mats on them for the life of the car and are in brand new condition. Sorry...this is becoming a saga. Just to affirm the input bearing noise,here is proof.When the clutch pedal is pressed this disengages the gearbox ( via the clutch ) from the engine.At this point the gearbox input shaft is not spinning, so there will be no wirrr from the gearbox input bearing shaft while the clutch is in.

The thrust bearing is located in the bell housing attached to a release lever . This lever is the one you see protruding out the side of the bell housing which is activated by the clutch slave cylinder ie clutch pedal.. Thrust bearing is not spinning until the clutch pedal is pressed. When the clutch pedal is pressed the release lever forces the thrust bearing against the clutch plate fingers. In neutral the thrust bearing is not spinning, it only spins when the clutch pedal is pressed. If when you push the pedal down the noise disapears it is not a thrust bearing noise. Therefore if you have a noise in nuetral with clutch out its not a thrust bearing noise because the thrust bearing is not spinning. A wirring noise in neutral in the RB gearbox is commonly found to be the input shaft bearing. Parts available at Nissan Dealers.. this is a gearbox open job.

This might help.....thrust bearing noise will only be evident when the clutch is engaged i.e. pedal depressed. So if you got the wirrrrrr before the pedal is down look at input bearing in gearbox.

how can i tell if its the auto tailshaft? how do i tell if its a manaul crossmember? if anyones got a side by side picture of the two that would be good! Also is the gearbox mount (bush) the same on manual and auto?

Hi all.. jUst need a little help.. My car has just come in from japan and has had a auto to manual conversion while it was over there. I've come across a couple of problems where i'm trying to determine if the right parts have been used. For starters the xmember was on backwards and only held on by 2 bolts. I've compared it and am pretty sure its a manual xmember. I have tried to turn it around but i can't get it to bolt in, the gearbox seems to be out of alignment. I'm didn't think the gearbox would need force to get it into position.. does it? I was also wondering if an auto and manual tailshaft is the same? I thought it may still have an auto shaft in it which may be too long. ? Anyone had similar problems? Anyone got a picture of a manual gearbox xmember for some reasurance? Trav

Hey all I'm currently waiting for my R32 to be brought over from Japan under the 15 year old import scheme. I just wanted to know a couple of things so i can work out my budget for getting it on the road.. Does the 89 r32 come standard with intrusion bars, I've been led to believe they have got some but i'll still need an engineer's certificate to confirm they meet Aus standards. Could someone confirm or correct this.? Also.. I've been told that the 89 seatbelts meet the australian standards ? well i think the front ones might but i'm not sure if the rears have standard lap sash retractables... Any ideas on this? Everything else is pretty straight forward as i've complied a few 15 year old cars over the years .. Any input would be greatly appreciated! Trav

Hi Clint, I actually sold my skyline and the bov went with that... I've got a cross over pipe without an option for a bov so i may just use that instead of yours.. Would it be possible to come down sometime and have a look at how close the piping and cooler will come to fitting in my 260z.. Its got an ECCS rb20det in it. The stupid thing is i just got a BOV from here a week ago for my mate.... didn't realise i'd need it! Trav

Alloy blow off valve... doesn't have a brand on it . Comes with right angle adaptor to bolt straight onto standard mounting point on R32's... and also comes with plug to put in the plumback route on the standard system + vacume hose + metal gasket. 236hp isn't bad at all! i'd be pretty happy with that, do you have a fuel pressure regulator on yours? if so what fuel pressure are you running on boost and off boost.? A couple of other things i have to do first is install a surge tank and some larger diameter fuel lines then i'll hook it up to the lap top and punch in the numbers you gave me... then i'll go from there.. Its a good start! I'm just not sure how different mine would be running a lower spec fuel pump than yours.. plus the zed's not intercooled as yet. Thanks again. Trav

Hi all.. I'm after some help in tuning up my RB20det which is sitting in my 260z.. I've got a fully programable EMS computer with a Handset. The car came with the ems but wasn't running due to some mechanical issues.. All of these issues are now sorted except the EMS. The car seems to be running fine but it doesn't produce ANY power... The turbo spools up and the hand set reads 10psi boost but there is no difference between on boost and off boost. Was wondering if anyone on here was running an EMS that could give me an idea of the settings that you are using. The only modification to this one is a larger VG30 Non ball bearing turbo + 2.5" exhaust. Is it possible to copy maps and settings from one EMS to another? I'm in Adelaide and any help would be appreciated!. Trav
