Driving An Unregistered Car For Registration Purposes
Shaun replied to Shaun's topic in New South Wales
Yeah, it was off the road for about 4 years. Even so, if i had known now what was involved, i would have kept rego. Shaun. -
Pm sent regarding R32 radiator and postage to Terrigal, NSW, 2260. Also need bank details. Thanks, Shaun.

Driving An Unregistered Car For Registration Purposes

Thats easy for them to say though. What if you fail the blue slip/engineer report? Its not practacable for the owner to tow the car everywhere. Actually, in the excerpt from the rta website above, it says that you can drive an unregistered vehicle to the nearest garaged facitity, ie, home. So, i think ill just tow the car to the engineer, making sure i pass the first time, and then drive it home via the nearest rta registry. The worst thing i did was take my car out of rego. Shaun. -

I rang the RTA about this issue, and the guy said that i could either get a pink slip in order to prove its road worthyness and drive to the (he didnt say nearest) engineering place, or, go to the nearest blue slip place and fail the inspection (its about $40 for the inspection). You then get 14 days to have a reinspection before you have to pay again, but you can drive the car in order to get these modifications done. He didnt say anything about having to go to the the closest engineer. The problem is, if you get a prick of a cop pull you over (chances of this are high in my opinion), i believe that he can still hammer you because its how you read the wording. Shaun. -
Yeah, i think ill just prime the oil filter and then unplug the injectors and crank it over for a while. I wont see oil pressure bit at least it wil circulated oil around a bit. Shaun

Yeah, im definately OCD. I mop my garage floor more than those in my house. Shaun.

Driving An Unregistered Car For Registration Purposes

Yeah, im hoping i can get something like this ^^^^. I know that temporary third party is available for registration purposes (for up to 1 month i think), but im just concerned that im not going to the closest possible engineer. As we all know, the engineer can f**k you around, so its important to go to the right one. Ill have to go into the RTA, i just wanted to hear some thoughts. Ive never had a good experience with the RTA! Shaun. -
Hi, Just wondering if you can drive an unregistered car in order to get the car engineered, which has to be done for registration purposes. The thing is though; i live on the Central Coast, and the engineer i want to use is in Sydney, so its not the closest option. Ive done the whole 'write a letter of intent' thing before, but that was to the closest practable blue slip place. Does anyone know if you can get a coverslip/ temporary green slip from the RTA? Im just trying to save about $300 on a tow. Thanks, Shaun.

I know its in the wrong section, but more people look here. I need an Rb20 AFM so that i can make my engine bay look reletively stock with the air box etc. It doesnt matter if it doesnt work. I sold mine ages ago for $50, so im looking to spend around that. Thanks, Shaun. 0414972596

I agree, it seems like a good investment. Do taxis have these oil things installed?
-
I sold mine for $50, so around the same. Shaun.

Thats an interesting kit hey. It certainly makes sense. Pity im a tight arse.

Hi, I need an R32 gtst AFM in order to pass engineering, and make everything look stock. Dont care if its broken or not working. A plug would be good too. Shaun 0414972596

Oh, i also need an Air flow meter for an R32 gtst. Same thing; dont care if its stuffed. A plug would be good too. Shaun.

Yeah, getting the old oil out of the cooler is easy, as mentioned above. There would still be some left in the lines, but i dont think it would be significant when filled up with 7 litres of new stuff. The issue is getting new stuff to the cooler. Now you mention it, the way mine is mounted, it wouldnt just go in the bottom of the cooler and straight out the other side without permiating through the whole core would it? Hope not. Surely there would be enough pressure there to create a 'backlog' of oil in the cooler that would permiate through the rest of it, and they told me that it didnt matter which way it was mounted. When i felt the cooler, it was all pretty hot. Oh, im pretty obsessive conpulsive with mounting things and oil issues. Shaun.

As mentioned, i need a stock R32 computer so that i can put my aftermarket computer inside the shell and make it look stock. Dont want to spend a fortune though. Shaun. 0414972596

Yeah, i disconnected the injectors and cranked it for aaaages, but i discovered you cant get oil pressure off the starter motor. I was thinking of getting a mechanical pump (like a holley blue or something) with dash 10 fittings and connecting it to a battery so i can pump oil straight from the bottle into the cooler. Might be a bit of an overkill though. I love the SM4. Where/how are you mounting yours? Im just in the process of mounting mine in the factory position, but im finding it really hard to make it look stock! The worst thing i ever did was take my car out of rego! Now ive gotta try to convince the engineer that the computer is standard so that i dont have to get emissions tested. Shaun.

Hi I just started my RB26 for the first time after a rebuild, so i had to prime the pump and turbo core etc with engine oil. I was just wondering if those with oil coolers actually dump the oil within the cooler and then prime the cooler with new oil when they change their engine oil. The reason im asking is that i just installed an Earls 19 row (wide) oil cooler, and the fittings are facing downwards. So in order to prime the cooler (probably about 1.5 litres with lines), its a massive pain in the arse, and requires removal of the braided lines etc etc. I must have spent over 20 grand on the engine, so if i have to do it every 5000kms to avoid engine wear then so be it, but i was just wondering if i remove the old oil from the cooler, then prime the oil filter (and obviously engine) with new stuff, will the lack of oil in the cooler for a few seconds be damaging to the engine? Its hard to explain, but hopefully you guys in the know will get what im talking about. For those that are interested, the engine started no worries, and got oil pressure straight away. It started off the key with the Autronic SM4 and sounds great. This thing has been in build for about 4 years (after some bad luck and engine failures), so i was pretty nervous about something going wrong. Anyway, ill include some pics of the cooler and the remote oil filter so you know what i mean. Sorry about the big files though. Shaun.

Ive got some more pics at home, as im at work at the moment. Thanks for the interest, but im flat out doing my own stuff. Its pretty easy to do. Shaun.

Heres a catch can that i made up for my R32. It has baffles inside it too. Obviously the battery is in the boot. I also made up a box for that. Sorry about the size of the pic. Shaun

Has Anyone Got An Rb26 With A Single Gt35 On It?
Shaun replied to Shaun's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
^^^^^That makes me a bit worried about my 1.06 turbine housing. Hope the boost threshold isnt too high. Although i do have 9:1 compression. Anyway, mine gets tuned on the 23rd, after 3 years off the road. Shaun.
