Cheers mate. With the bolt sizes you've listed it's not an option anyway (1FZ ones are 10mm), but the Chev bolt idea is a good one. Cheap and plentiful. All I need to do is work out how to re-drill and tap the head bolt holes in the block whilst the motor is still in the car (I'm sure it can be done). Providing none of the holes open into any of the oil galleries it should be fine. (my old 5M had one or two head bolt holes like that). Thanks again. Sean

Hi Guys, I have a toyota 1FZ-FE (4.5L Landcruiser petrol engine) fitted with a GT42 in my old Toyota Crown. Currently the motor is 100% stock and I'm pushing 19psi into it. I'm trying to source some head studs for it so I can crunch the head down a bit harder before I squash too much more into it. Considering how easy it is to get bits for the RB series motors I'm wondering if the RB25 or 26 head studs would be suitable. What I'm after is the length, diameter and thread on the head bolts for the RB25 and 26 (I have read that the RB26 ones are bigger?) Thanks in advance. Sean Adelaide

Hi there-I was wondering if I could be put a few spots down the list-like 7th-10th as won't be able to get down there till about 12:30. Thanks mate Sean

Thanks for the compliment chops. One of the things I enjoy most about the car is the source of amusement it is for others. I myself love seeing stuff that's unique/bizarre. Since you saw it at Jazmac it's changed a fair but. It's now got 12 injectors (2 per cyl, 440+550cc), 2 new wastegates, new boost control, custom plenum on a 100 Series Landcruiser stub manifold with 2 separate fuel rails and an 1100hp GT42. It's now making a LOT more HP than before. The engine is still inernally stock, but I'll get to that sometime. Feel fee to come and have a good look at the show. I'll be in a back corner somewhere as I'm really only going for the Dyno comp. See you there mate Sean
-
Hi mate, I asked the same question when I called the organisers, and yes, you have to enter the show. However, you don't have to be judged ("Display Only"). It's costing me $45 to enter and $20 for the dyno comp. You also get 2 passes to the show and a couple of T-shirts, so it's not too bad really. My car is FAR from a show vehicle-it's built for a prupose-but they had no problem with that. Cheers Sean

I'm entering the show for the Dyno comp as I've always wanted to have a go in one. There was a pretty good mix of cars in the show last year too. Keep an eye out for my big, ugly blue Toyota Crown. With 2 screamer pipes and an open 4 inch exhaust it should make a fair bit of noise inside the pavillion.

Where is Boostworx guys? I haven't been there before. Do they have a full tie-down rig and ratchet straps?

whats the fastest time for a rwd on street tyres?
MS-75 replied to supra owner's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
As for the world 6cyl record, from memory I believe that one of the US Poopras has run well into the 8's on BFG drag radials. -

MS-75 replied to supra owner's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
Hopefully this new intake manifold and blower will push me a bit further up the list. (currently #8) Mr Blonde, I'm also going to be using some BFG D/Rads. I'm keen to see how they hold up. Without stalling up it went 1.80 60ft on the simex light truck tyres, so I'm hoping to drop into the mid 1.6's with the BFG's. Did you just rev and dump, or did you slip the clutch out of the hole? Cheers, Sean Adelaide -
Hi gents, another question-Up until this point I have just been running PULP, but now as I start to chase some decent power I want to change to a racing fuel. :flamed: What experience have people got with the different types, blends etc? Cheers Sean Adelaide

BFG Drag Radials-experiences/thoughts?
MS-75 replied to MS-75's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
Cheers for the feedback guys-much appreciated. John, I thought that the 7inch rims might have been a bit small (by 1/2 inch according to the literature), but I figured I'd try them anyway as the price was much less than custom rims. The tyres fit nicely without balooning much at all actually. If they do move a bit or wear in the centre a touch I'll change to a wider rim-although because the car is auto they will be less prone to spinning on the rims than on a manual (especially a fairly hefty rwd R33 or 300ZX being dumped at 6000+! They must be fun out of the hole!). The car they are going on is my 1972 Toyota Crown 2 door, and the 275/60's do actually fit (just!). I'd better pull my finger out as I've been shoved back to 8th in the HPI list by yourself going into 2nd in the 300Z and an R33 dropping in one slot in front of me. Bugger! From what I've picked up it looks like starting at 18psi and working down looks like a good bet. It'll probably depend on how the 4-link I put under the car behaves. If I've got my geometry right it should slap the tyres into the track on launch allowing me to run a slightly higher pressure than I could have with the stock toyota set-up. Take it easy guys Sean Adelaide -
Ah yes-so it was....... Got mixed up with Drag Day Again thread in the other SA bit........

BFG Drag Radials-experiences/thoughts?
MS-75 replied to MS-75's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
Yeah-that's what I found when I had a look around too. I reckon the Jeep rims would be a perfect match for putting 15's on a skyline (without having to go for custom rims). What is the offset on an R33? Is it around 30+ve? -

MS-75 replied to MS-75's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
I picked up the jeep rims for $100 each-and whilst that may sound a bit much, it turns out that getting your hands on virtually any sort of 15x7 or bigger rim with a relatively big 30+ve offset is virtually impossible. Whilst 15x7 or bigger are around, they are almost purely deep dish style (0-10+ve abouts), and all of the rims with the big offset are all 16inch or bigger. I paid $342 each for the 275/60-15 Drag Radials from Bob Jane Marion here in Adelaide-so yeah-not cheap, but I don't have to buy x ply front runners to go with them. Cheers Sean -
BFG Drag Radials-experiences/thoughts?
MS-75 replied to MS-75's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
Excellent-thanks guys. 1.6 sixty was what I was aiming for-and considering the Supra uses IRS, it might mean the clown with the 4 link can dip into the 1.50's. That should put me at 10.85 straight up (1.796 60'' and 11.049 so far)-and that's not including another 5psi, LMS fuel and a new custom plenum set-up. Something you guys might find useful-I have actually bolted the tyres on with Jeep Wrangler rims. They are a 15x7 lipless steel rim (so they look like 16's) with a 5 stud patten (5x114.3) and an offset of about 30-35mm. My guess is that they would slot under a skyline quite nicely-allowing you guys the option of the 15 inch tyres. Cheers sean -
I'll certainly be in it. be damn good fun!

Hi Guys, I've just bought a set of BGF drag radials (275/60/15) and was wondering if anyone has experience with them.ie What pressures have you run? What sort of launch have you found effective? What sort of 60ft time? How long have they lasted? General impressions? Cheers Sean Adelaide
-
Cheers 2RISMO-I had a look, but unfortunately they're 16inch-and I've got 15inch rims- Has anyone on SAU got experience with the BFG's? I'd be curious as to their impressions. The ones I had in mind are the 275-60 DragRadials (I borrowed a 275 60 Comp T/A to check sizes and they fill the guards perfectly). I just have to flog off a spare turbo I have to fund them. I'm planning on fitting the car with custom cams, the two new Tial 38mm gates I just bought (it runs two w/g's-one for each half of the split-pulse turbine/manifold set-up), tuning it on jungle juice of some form to about 20psi and fitting it with the drag radials for a crack at the radial tyre record for 6cyl rwd in HPI by the end of the summer. (10.4 is bloody moving though........and I may just end up with a 1FZ block filed with mangled engine parts instead :boohoo: ) I'll probably be hanging around here a fair bit as the skyline community has got a lot of valuable experience with big power turbo sixes. At the moment I'm investigating what would be a good cam profile for it-who is the expert on such matters around here? The toyota crowd is (for the most part) more into the sprinter/celica 4cyl side of things.(slowly changing though with the 1JZ-2JZ becoming more common). Anyway-take it easy-and I'll stop clogging this thread with my garbage now. Nice to meet you fellows. (although I'll start clogging other ones no doubt...=-) Sean Adelaide

Nah-1972 coupe. Ugly AND old. It's running a full manual supra 4 speed auto that's been fully re-worked for the abuse it's copping (500++ ftlbs...). Fire me a PM and we can exchange pics and specs. Take it easy mate, Sean

you got it WRXhoon-it's a 1FZ-FE Landcrusher motor. It ran the 11.65 on 14psi-although the MPH was low at 108 as I backed off when it got a bit of a wobble up in the rear in the deep end of the track. (stock bushes in the rear end was the culprit) It had hit 124mph just before I backed off though. Next time out I had it at 17 psi, and had custom urethane bushes on board allowing me to keep the boot in for the whole 400, giving an 11.5, 11.37, 11.88 (too much gas-went up in smoke) then 11.04 on the semi-slicks. However the MPH (124-125) was the same as for 14 psi, so I don't think the 3psi made much difference (probably the stock plenum and cams I think-it's also nearly on the limiter at 125 so will need a change from 3.23 to 3.08 gears for more MPH). The 1FZ is certainly doing the job so far in relatively stock trim (except for a bit of head port smoothing and combustion chamber mods to dro compression)-and I'm getting stuck into more injectors, custom plenum and re-ground cams soon as well. If I actually stall it up off the line next meet it should go 10.90 or so as is. It was really an experiment to see if the 1FZ turbo idea would work, and it's proving to be far better than I'd expected. (but yes-the weight distribution is average-however the Crown handles like a turd anyway  and it's only meant for 1/4 work) Cheers Sean

11.04@125 (1.8 60ft-grannied it of the line) in my 4.5L turbo toyota crown. (Mcrearey DOT tyres) I realize it's not a skyline-but it's Japanese, 6cyl, 24 valve and runs a set GTR injectors.......... As for the radial tyres-Got Boost-it does appear that you are the dude I've pushed back to 8th in the current HPI list (sorry).....Although in a couple of issues the [email protected] I ran at the meeting after that puts me in 6th spot. What are the Nittos you are running like mate? Currently I'm just using some tall Simex tyres cause they were cheap and tall (engine only revs to 6000 so I need all the gearing and tyre height I can get)-but the 11.37 is the best I think they will do. What $$ did you pay for them, where from, and would you recommend them? Cheers dude Sean Adelaide
