  1. OK! After a bit of review and research, I've got things a little clearer in my mind. initially I was having doubts about a "C10" 2000 GT ever being made!. So much info about the PGC10, the first GT-R, and so little regarding the "G"C10. It would appear that when speaking of this series of Skyline, (3rd Skyline) the C10 is the 4 cylinder sedan, the GC10 is the 6 cylinder sedan (all badged "GT" with the white and blue badge first seen on the single carbied Prince Skyline GT-AII), and the PGC10, or the first Skyline GT-R powered by the twin cam 2litre 6 S20. Put a "K" in it and you've got the two door variant. Hear's a few pics. The first is a scan of the front guard badges from the Prince GT-B (red) and the Prince GT-A (blue). The second is from a 1968 GC10 Skyline 2000 GT. The third is from a 1971-2 GC10 Skyline 2000 GT. The fourth is from the 1973 KGC110 Skyline 2000 GT. Should do a proper thread on the different badges and embems for Skylines.............mmmaybe later! Jim. Hi ya Carolyn! I like to think so!! ...and the KGC10 from Beechworth now lives with me!
  2. Hi guys! .......Are you thinking of the 2400GT Alfa? Her's some pics anyway. You are correct about the C110 release. First sales were in Japan Sept. of 1972. The last of the C10's (Model:GC10-IV. A 4 door L20 6 with the lot) went on sale in Japan March of 1972. Cazz, a Skyline is a Skyline! The Nissan or Datsun badging was for market recognition, so the first GT was the PMC Prince Skyline GT. More later! gotta go
  3. Hi guys! .......Are you thinking of the 2400GT Alfa?
  4. Pete, if you are prepared to buy from Japan, they are available for the S54. Not a cheap option with agents fees etc. I'll see if I can find where I saw them for sale. Jim.
  5. I believe he does, but which is which, and where he aquired a second from is his story, and would be no less interesting than his others I'll bet Jim.
  6. G'day George, Nice rare Skyline you got there :kewl: The S20! well...A two litre six developed from the Prince Motor Companys GR8 Engine used in the R380 series of race car from 1965. The 160PS S20 is an over square motor with an 82mm bore, 62.5mm stroke, hemispherical combustion chamber, 9.5:1 compression ratio. . After the August 1966 merger with Prince, Nissan Introduced the S20 in the first Skyline GT-R in February 1969. A 4 door known as the PGC10. The S20 was also used in the Fairlady Z 432 (PS30) Same body shape as the 240Z. The S20 also appeared in the next model Skyline GT-R , the 1971 KPGC10 two door. The last appearance was in the 1973 Skyline GT-R (KPGC110). Same body shape as our 240K two door. 4 valves per cylinder, 3 44pph Mikunis and 2 overhead cams (there's ya 432!) This combination created an engine that would happily rev to 9K+ and produced the most spine tingling note at full song! Sadly It had a relatively short sales lifespan. Many survive today in Japan, but expect to pay at least $60,000 for an S20 equipped car in need of a lot care. Top cars will trade hands at well over $100,000. The few motors that appear for sale start around $25,000!.. One motor that did escape Japan is now part of an amazing Z 432 project in the U.K. This particular motor turned up in a Melbourne wreckers yard in a very sorry state in the mid '80's. It had been imported as part of a job lot of parts including a couple of G nose fronts for the ZG Fairlady. A wily Brit gent (who on occasion has frequented this very forum! :innocent: ) heard of its escape, and snapped it up. I recall the advert in "Auto Action" and a price of $8000 comes to mind!!!. There is no doubt a lot more to tell of the S20 . I hope this gets you started. Jim.
  7. Yep, I remember Beechworth well Cazz! ....yair, on that weekend yours was the youngest Skyline....and a standout car. It is the reference for an Australian built R31 Skyline. In itself a piece of Australian Skyline history. I guess to a PRINCE owner it will always be "modern", but just to turn that idea on it's head....last weekend, the SAU show on the NSW central coast. A gathering of what was arguably the best Skylines in the state. Amongst all the R34s, R33s, R32s,showing there age were a select few R30's and R31's ...quality cars all! I entered my '72 GT, on of two on the day. In this fine company they become "Old Skool" :whatsthat (I'll never get used to that saying :blah: )..but that's just how it is...Geez I think they were the only cars with carbies!! Hey, just to get this thread back on track, I'd like to use the mention of your Dad's 240K..(a Skyline by another name) to try and get some more people to tell us about there own knowledge/ memories of this second series of Skyline to be sold to Australia. Introduced in 1973,Nissan/Datsun Australia sold all they could get out of Japan. It was a very popular car through to 1977, where sales slowed. But 30 odd years has taken it's toll and sightings these days are few and far between, so if you have a story or info to share, please let us know here at the "History of Skylines in Australia" I've added a few pics to jog the memories of those who may not remember what they looked like! Regards, Jim.
  8. Great stuff Cazz! Concise details on the Australian built cars is welcomed. Fetish?..really! Well then..."Hello little girl....want a lollie?,..hmmm . Want to take a ride in a nice mans car?..hmmm? he..he .. he..." :sly: Any memorabilia form the 240K days? :innocent: Jim.
  9. I'd like to add my thanks to ALL for a thoroughly enjoyable day. The quality and variety of the cars on show was exceptional and a credit to SAU, organisers and members alike. I had a great time talking, and ..talking aand..more talking about "the cars with carbies!". I'll have to bring a table and chairs next time so we can sit down and look at the old books, brochures, models etc I was privileged to recieve the GCG Turbos sponsored "Best Classic" for the KGC10,(I reckon it was the Watanabes that got it Nathan!)..it's certainly a long way from finished, and one day it may perform as well as Nathans. Thanks, Jim.
  10. I'm officially in! Look for TWO KGC10's (both GT-R copys) on the freeway north, early Sunday morning! This is gonna be fun!! :jump:
  11. Ahh dat's goot. I better give 'im a call and see if he wants to travel in ....unison ...KGC10......... not casey  Thanks, Jim.
  12. Bit late I KNOW......but a good chance I'll be there with the '72 GT-R copy. I'll try and beg my case with the organising powers tomorrow. Question is....will there be two silver grey KGC10's on show?? What about some older stuff, Prince Skylines, 240K's?? Anybody know of any likely to show?...I hope so! Jim.
  13. Here ya go Jason, Prince & Skyline spoken here! Regards, Jim.
  14. Good call Jason. Pete, "Prince" is Ray. You met him at Beechworth. White '73 coupe with the rb20. If you have no luck here, You should be able to get through to him via the Prince register. Don't forget to keep us classic tragics up to date with the progress. Can you make it to Goulburn??:whatsthat Cheers, Jim.
  15. Mmmm indeed! Thanks Ronin, those are two nice candid shots. I'm getting curious about the Japanese No.Plates. F'rinstance, the plate on this C10, is it a custom plate? what do the various groupings of characters mean. I would'nt mind having a couple of plates made up for my C10, but with characters that actually had some significance to the car and its age, just for shows n stuff! Cheers, Jim.
  16. I've got the wrong ones(the ones you want) on my car. I need these.. anybody got a set?? Then I wont need the ones you want :whatsthat
  17. It looks like a 1973 KPGC110 Skyline GTR....but considering the rarity of the genuine article, I think only 197 were built by Nissan, and what they are worth these days, around Au$100,000, it's unlikely this was the real deal! More likely it's a KGC110 GT variant. Basically the same as the 240K coupes we got in Australia. The 1973 KPGC110 Skyline GTR used the S20 engine; 2litre crossflow twin cam 3x twin choke solex carbies ~160PS....and only sold in Japan. Yes, I'm a bit of a nut about these, I'm lucky enough to have a 1972 KGC10 that's been built to look like the more desirable GTR or KPGC10. The first few pics are other .....interpretations I guess of the same model. If you are going to Goulburn for the Nationals I'll see you there P.S. a little blue! the S20 pic is actually in '72 KPGC10 . reverse open bonnet.
  18. The Prince Skyline GT register is based in Victoria..so you're ahead already! You can email them at the Prince Skyline Gt Register Cars do come up for sale every now and then, but I would suggest the Register is the smart place to start getting an idea of what you may be in for! Good luck,Congratulations on your choice. Jim. You too can go from this ...to this!!
  19. Of course Funky...be glad to! It's just a matter of me getting the time to sit here and get on with the scanning and posting. I will do it!...I promise. I think this thread is the perfect place to place them. A C210 GTR?...you've got my interest! Don't worry 'bout them being in Japanese, the pics still translate OK. It's funny how a lot of Japanese printed (and internet) matter is a combination of english, and Japanes script. It's like it's a deliberate tease for us poor gaijin (gaijun?) Anyway, stay tuned Funky, it'll all be here eventually! Cheers Jim.
  20. Hey Steve, tell us about the Prince Gloria in the second pic! Jim.
  21. Anyone out there got a hard copy brochure for the 1972 Skyline GT KGC10 or even the GT-R KPGC10?. To sell or to share? Peace , Love and jellybeans :hippy: Jim.
  22. Were the NSV built units GTS's or Silhouettes, or both? i mean could a Silhouette be a GTS? I really do need to find the article don't I... :bp: BTW here's some more early bits, S21D first sold October of 1962.
  23. Thanks for that. I've been a bit one eyed and not shown much interest in Skylines beyond the C110, but your post points out some interesting facts! A bit of Tasmanian trivia for you, did you know the Tasmanian police force took delivery of some 'specially prepared NSV Silhouettes? Now I'm going to have to find that article too. It's here somewhere......honest, but if someone can come to my rescue with some info on these police cars I'm sure we would all be richer from the experience :hippy: Cheers, Jim.
  24. Hi Steve, Well spotted! The 240K had a rocky start marketing wise in Australia. Dropped right in it during 1. Fuel Crisis and 2. Supercar hysteria. As Ray (Prince) pointed out Nissan had the GT-R on hand as well but didn't make it out of Japan officially due to "Servicing concerns of the S20". To mix metaphors we can look back with 20-20 hindsight and read between the lines, thats political lines of the time. Any hint of high performance was removed as cars of this type were seen to be anti-social, using too much precious resources in the way of fuel, too much horsepower getting into the hands of the inexperienced...that sort of thing, not the image Nissan wanted to align itself with, bustin' it's ball joints to get into the family car market.Don't forget the power of the insurance industry came into political play. So Nissan did a quick "240k GT? no no mate....itsa GL, lovely finish, smoove ride...OOH LOOK, a seagull!!(yoink!)see? not a GT badge in sight!!" You will find evidence of a few early escapees with variations of 240 K GT, Datsun GT badging. More common in Europe. Can you post a pic of your Wagon Steve? I think I may have a brochure hereabouts of a skyway? Cheers, Jim.
  25. Great stuff Alan, thankyou. The second shot ...with chappy in engine bay, I notice what looks like a 4door PGC10 racer in background. Any chance the car being worked on is also a 4door? Just wondering if any reference with photo. Cheers, Jim.
