  1. Agreed. But seriously, who drives a skyline and HASN'T had a harsh and pointless (although legal) fine? Absolutely. No, you do not have to STOP and give way, you just need to give way. Please not the difference between "Give way" and "Stop". "Give Way" is indicated by a give way sign, or a dotted line, or any other scenario in the road rules requiring you to give way to somebody. In order to give way to them, basically you should not get in their way. The technical definition is something along the lines of "The driver that you are giving way to should not have to take any action to avoid hitting you untill you reach the speed of traffic". "Stop" is indicated by a stop sign, or a SOLID line. In this case you must bring your vehicle to a COMPLETE STOP and THEN give way as neccessary. In the case of both these examples it is a give way line not a stop line. So you do not need to stop, but you do need to give way. In the case of merging at speed (80, 100, whatever), that means getting up to the same speed as the traffic, and slotting into a gap. Unfortunately, only about 1% of our population know how to do that. The other 99% speed up to about 20ks slower than the traffic is moving and try to barge in, causing the traffic on the highway to have to slow down, and eventually causing congestion. In heavy traffic yes, courteous people will open a gap for you, but they are not obligated to and if they don't then you can't just barge in. Clearly the cop in question DIDN'T willing open a gap or he wouldn't have given out a ticket. On a related note, I recently did a competiton of sorts with another car club, the subject matter was road rules. Simple stuff like giving way, what different road markings mean etc. None of them were very difficult, My team mate and I won with 100% correct. However, almost everyone else participating got about 1/3 to 1/2 of them wrong. I was stunned at the time, I couldn't understand how so many people with driving licences can be so unaware of what the road rules are. Seeing this thread makes it even more clear that people don't know the basic road rules. What we have here is an absolutely clear cut give way scenario that seems to have every man and his dog confused, as well as people not knowing that "give way" doens't mean "stop", etc. (This is not targeted at one person in particular, more than one have made that mistake in this thread). It's no wonder there is so much chaos on our roads! I do take heart from the fact that you all DO seem to fall in the 1% of people know how to merge at speed . I feel for you, but there is absolutely no way you will win this in court, unless you have independant witnesses who will verify the cop was far enough behind when you merged that he did not have to take any action to avoid you.
  2. Was there ever any common courtesy on QLD roads? I've never seen it... If there is ever a situation where you should go with benefit of the doubt when giving way, it's when your in a skyline and the guy you should be giving way to is a cop. The rule is clear cut. There is a give way line there, he needs to give way. He's not going to get out of the fine on the basis that it would have been 'courteous' for the cop to let him in.
  3. It's an outrage! Too 'spensive Plus they'd probably give me a piece of finger boy's car just to spite me I am dissapoint. You'd better be there Thursday mang
  4. Your initial post seemed to indicate you didn't think you had to give way at all. This is 100% incorrect as there is a give way line there, as the example demonstrates. The text does not contradict the example at all, although admittedly the wording is confusing. You broke the rule in subsection 1. Subsection 2 deals with "lines of traffic" not marked lanes, and subsection 3 says that subsection 2 does not apply if "two lines of traffic" are merging. This is not your scenario, your scenario is subsection 1. Here is an example of subsection 2: Note there are no marked lanes, just two "lines of traffic". Vehicle B must give way to Vehicle A (subsection 2) unless the two lines of traffic are merging (subsection 3). Even then in this example vehicle B must give way as it is behind Vehicle A. So you 100% did have to give way to the policeman. Now, as to how far back he was, well, that we will not know as we were not there. But basically if he had to brake AT ALL to avoid hitting you then you didn't give way to him. Since you were pulling into cars stopped at the lights the definition is a little fuzzy, but unless you have any independant witnesses it will be your word against the cop's and the cop's will stand. Especially if you were in a Skyline. The fact that he pulled you over indicates one of a few possibilities: 1) He was in your blind spot and you didn't see him, so he had to swerve/brake to avoid you. 2) He was closer than you thought and had to brake to avoid you 3) He is an a*shole and didn't have to slow down at all to avoid you, but booked you because you were in a Skyline and he could. Unfortunately for you, even is scenario 3) is the correct one, without independant witnesses you're pretty boned
  5. I know the place you are talking about, your MSPAINT diagram is accurate. More recent picture (not sure if you need to sign up or anything, it's free) http://www.nearmap.com/?ll=-27.248201,153....mp;nmd=20100907 The lane doesn't suddenly end, it is miles long. YES, you needed to give way there. There is a dotted line ie a GIVE WAY line. Your situation EXACTLY follows example 2 on page 151 of the document you linked. You are driver B. "In these examples, vehicle B must give way to vehicle A". Don't go to court, you will lose. Suck it up and pay the fine. Suggest you use your spare time not driving learning the road rules.
  6. Can possibly assist towing with sexF if you need... You'd have to hire a trailer though
  7. The penultimate race is on at 2 in the morning or some shiz and I don't want to go to work the next day. Also it's the day after my birthday. The last race is on an hour later than normal (which is already too damn late when you start work at 7am), and there will be much drinking and celebrations when Mahk Wibbah wins the WDC. So once again, don't want to go to work the next day. But two Mondays in a row as 'strayen days would raise too many eyebrows, so I'm just going to take leave. I have sh*tloads anyway.
  8. That reminds me I need to pre-book some not-quite-strayen days for the mondays after the last two F1 rounds...

  13. I like that you quoted them all you secretly love it
  14. Wait, what? I always have and still do rate Grace 1 over Grace 2. The gap closed, but that was due to hard work on Grace 2's part to lift her game and not due to any drop for Grace 1. Next you'll be telling me you don't rate Molly any more... Advans, yeah you got me there. GT-Ps are defintely sexier.
  15. From what I saw, it didn't get the epic rack. Post it up anyway
  16. I tried to get Colon to take a pic with his iPhail but I think it Phailed
