Recovering the RAID array was even more balls - had to de-stripe it with 6 good drives and one partially failed drive (out of 8 drives, 1 failure was recoverable but I lost 2), and not knowing what order the striping was done in -

Fun. I lost a 3.5TB RAID array once. only had about 2TB of stuff on it but, and I managed to get most of it back. Lost a few movies and TV shows though Many days of data recovery efforts there.
