  1. Have you been to gtrusablog.com? It's by Sean Morris - he pioneered Skyline importation here in the US and crew chiefed the Speed World Challenge R34 a while back so he knows a lot about these cars. I bought my Nismo R32 from him and he's been a big help. So far on my car I've done oil and filter, sparkplugs, and gearbox and diff fluids for basic preventive maintenance. All the belts and coolant will be changed too as soon as I get in a new water pump (it's not broken but since I'm swapping out the timing belt I figure I might as well swap it out at the same time). Also have a new fuel filter waiting to get swapped in. Clutch is on the menu too but mainly because my throwout bearing is worn. Not too many owners here in the US of course so I started my own blog to talk about my car and post useful info. There's not much there yet since I just started but I'll be adding some DIYs and other info posts as time goes by. It's at 23gt.blogspot.com if you want to check it out.
  2. Thanks for all the help everybody. We checked out the slave and confirmed it's still a push-type and I'll be planning on ordering the new clutch relatively soon, just need to find the best place to get it price and time wise. I've had a couple of my friends check out the car - one who runs a local race shop and also the service manager of my local Nissan dealer and they pretty much say the same thing that I can live with the thrust bearing for a bit longer but better to fix it sooner rather than later. I'd rather spend the money on some other bits and bobs the car needs but mechanical issues must take precedence over aesthetic ones lol. Thanks again and I much appreciate the help and quick responses.
  3. After getting my freshly bought car checked out by two different mechanics I trust, they've concluded it needs a new throwout bearing soonish because it's quite noisy. Since that means dropping the clutch and the one in the car is super heavy I figured I should just swap it for a new one at the same time to avoid redoing it later. I don't know what clutch the car currently has but it's a bear in traffic and the car's been modified so I wouldn't be surprised if it's running an aftermarket one. I figured I'd get a Nismo Coppermix twin-plate but had some questions. I did a search but didn't quite find the answers I need. 1. The car's a 1990 Nismo so in theory it should have a push-type clutch but since it's been modified I can't rule out the small possibility the gearbox has been swapped. I highly doubt it was but is it possible to tell whether the gearbox is a push versus pull-type clutch without removing it? I'd rather not order the wrong type of clutch and find out later once the tranny is out. 2. Assuming the car still has the original push-type configuration is there any big benefit to converting to pull-type? From looking around it looks like the prices for a Nismo Coppermix shipped to me here in the US would be pretty much the same whether push or pull so should I just stick to push-type for simplicity or is there an advantage to converting it? Thanks for your help in advance.
  4. Looks like it's the same on the R32. Thanks. I think I got it now.
  5. Is there a guide here on SAU or elsewhere that outlines how to swap the speedo on an R32 gauge cluster? I wanted to swap in a Nismo 320kph cluster into my R32 and had gotten a complete early cluster with one off ebay but the bloody seller lied about the cluster having broken tabs - both of the top mounting tabs are broken clean off. I've filed a refund claim with ebay but am considering plan B of asking for a partial refund and just swapping the Nismo speedo from this cluster into my car's cluster (and swap the bulbs to LEDs in the process) but I have no idea how to take both clusters apart to do so. Would greatly appreciate any help you guys can give me. Thanks.
  6. I was going to post this in the Q&A thread but since that was getting a bit heated I just thought I'd start a new thread to share how happy I am that I finally got Arizona MVD to let me register and title my Nismo R32. Lets go shoot some pinatas to celebrate Anyway, it took four trips to MVD, two to a next-to-useless third party title place, three weeks or so time-wise, one level 2 inspection, numerous phone calls and conversations between me, my importer, and the local MVD supervisor, and finally one airmail packet with a signed bill of sale from the Japanese exporter that sold my car to IVI...and maybe some sacrificial offerings to random deities...but at last I have an Arizona plate on my Skyline. The ordeal - and lack of info about US Skyline ownership - made me decide to start a blog about my GT-Rs where I plan on adding some posts later talking about the import and registration process to hopefully help inform prospective owners. There's not a lot there yet but if anyone wants to check it out I've added a link in my sig. Cheers everyone
  7. Thanks! I can't take credit for the stance since the previous owner had fitted aftermarket suspension already and picked some nice bits - Cusco and Bilstein stuff. Some of the stuff he did to the car might be questionable but not in the suspension department lol.
  8. I hear the Regamasters are good quality so I'm not knocking them but I just didn't care for how plain they looked on this car - the dark grey color they were in just seemed kind of dull with the grey color of the rest of the car. I thought about LMGT 4s but I ended up really liking the look of these TE37SLs with the double pressed black color. Swapped them out this weekend and now the car looks like the pics below. First thought I had was that she's starting to look like a proper Skyline (after I also did a wash and defunked the interior a bit lol). Apologies for the crappy pics but it was starting to get dark by the time I finished up.
  9. Yup. Not a fan of them myself to be honest so this weekend I'm swapping them out for a set of TE37SLs in Double Pressed Black. The tires on the car were rotted so I'm glad I had a fresh set waiting to be put on. I know TE37s aren't very original but they seem classic for this car and fitting for a Nismo.
  10. Don't have great pics yet of the R32 since I just got her recently but here's the best I can do for a side-by-side pic on the day she got delivered to me: Crappy pic before it got dark: Here's a professional pic of the R35, care of my tuner:
  11. They're asking for either a bill of sale or a bill of lading connecting the Japanese exporter listed on the Export Cert to my importer here in the States. My RI said they've got that on the way to me as we speak so hopefully my ordeal ends next week. Fingers crossed lol.
  12. I don't have great pics of my Nismo yet since I just got her recently but as requested, here's a couple: She needs some work to return her to her former glory but that's all in the works and I'll have better pics as I go through that process.
  13. I don't know myself if it was optional or standard for all Nismos, I was just confirming that it was available from the factory in response to one of the above posts where JTCC thought it wasn't at all offered. I know of a second Nismo here in Arizona also with AC so mine's not an oddity. The sources I've looked at all agree on the body kit, ABS delete, GMG paint, and rear wiper delete as common to all Nismos but they conflict on the AC bit. I'd post pics but can't do it from this PC. I'll try to when I'm on my own
  14. I wish the legalization problems ended with just the Feds. Local DMVs seem to make up their own rules lol. My Nismo has an HS-7, 3520-1, Export Cert, letter from the NHTSA stating it's legal, California bill of sale from the importer, and Arizona DOT are STILL asking for more paperwork to finish up the reg process. Gotta love government efficiency lol.
  15. Hello. Name's Oliver and yes, I'm an actual resident of Eagleland and have a 1990 Nismo R32...and a 2010 R35...and a couple of other vehicles on the side. Not all of us poor sods have had all our dosh taken by Uncle Sam to preserve freedom and promote obesity...although I admit he's taken a fair bit of mine over the years
  16. AFAIK it was only the N1s that didn't come with AC period. I've heard varying sources tell me AC was either still standard or at least an option on the Nismos. I can say for sure it was available from the factory though because I have an authentic Nismo in my garage now and it has working factory AC (well, the AC is working but I can't switch it to heat currently because the blend servo's out - no biggie here in the deserts of Arizona lol). I didn't realize the value of Nismo's were that high before reading this thread. Makes me feel even better about the deal I got on this one. She's a solid runner but needs some aesthetic TLC however for me that's a bit of a plus because now I can tastefully modify her without worrying about "ruining" an unmolested Nismo like purists might take issue with
  17. Thanks for the reply. I guess the Nismo speedo looks the same from the front regardless of year. That's exactly the kind of info I needed. Thanks a lot! Now that you've told me that I realized all the Nismo clusters I've seen on eBay were early models with the yellow circuit board so I didn't notice there was a different color board on the later clusters until I checked photos of other ones and sure enough some were blue while others were yellow. Really appreciate the help - now I can buy without worrying about accidentally getting the wrong one for my car. Thanks but I know for sure my car needs an early model cluster - it's a Nismo, hence a 1990 car. What I needed to know was how to tell if a replacement cluster I was considering buying was early versus late so I didn't accidentally get the wrong one for my car. Got my answer above so again, thanks a lot for your help gents!
  18. Hello all. New here but been lurking for a bit. I'm from the US and just picked up a Nismo R32 now that our wonderful government has deemed them acceptable lol. Anyway, my car is a solid runner but needs some aesthetic TLC and being a Nismo I'd like to add whatever Nismo parts I can scrounge up. I'd like to get a Nismo cluster to replace the one in the car which has a Tomei speedo but a frankly horrid faux CF wrap on the bezel. Ugh. I read here that the clusters differ for early model R32s (pre-August 1991 I believe) versus later ones. I've seen some clusters on eBay so is there a way to be tell from photos whether a cluster is early or late? We don't have much of a Skyline scene here in the US yet since they haven't been legal so I was you hoping you knowledgeable people could shed some light on this for me. I tried a search but didn't find anything that helped. Also, is the speedo the only thing different or is the whole cluster changed on early versus later cars? Thanks in advance for your replies.
