  1. Thanks for the offer mate. I'm hoping she will be OK in Canberra - I used to run her in the Alice Springs summer (40 +) w/ the aircon on full ball and never overheated. Although when I come back up the Brown or Clyde will be a test.
  2. So I got my Skyline back c. 2 weeks ago (after 6 weeks transported from Alice Springs to Canberra and in storage in Adelaide). Currently in at Import Parts and Mechanical getting manual conversion done. Im also having a short shifter installed. Will post photos when I get her back! Once she has gone over the pits at Dickson to swap to ACT reg' - I'll be getting some more work done as I want to hit the 200rwkw mark! (she's currently at 171rwkw). I've heard that the Dickson motor registry hate modified vehicles so Im expecting to fail on a few things - does anyone have any experience w/ the motor registry that they'd like to share?? See you out on the road soon!
  3. Hi all, It looks like both Trojan and Import Parts and Mechanical are recommended places to take a Skyline. Ive an R33 (here's my newbie thread http://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/462755-first-r33-gts-t/)and want her converted to a manual when I re-locate to the ACT in a couple of months. Is there anywhere else around the ACT that people recommend/have experience w/ in doing the manual conversion? Cheers, Shaun.
  4. Another few photos of the vehicle. very happy w/ the job done on the air filter. Cheers, Shaun
  5. Unfortunately Ive been working every Saturday that the meets are on. Hopefully one will fall on one of my days off in the not to distant future. And yeah, thanks for the comments re re-spray - she looks really good now and am very happy w/ the job. Now I just need to get her to a manual....
  6. Yes, it's very tempting to start making little mods here and there, but it's a bottomless pit once you start! Ive done and am doing a few to my R33 GTS-T, however, to be honest if I had a GTR I wouldn't touch the motor/turbo etc. They came from the factory w/ more then enough for your average driver and ability to use on public roads. I would have to upgrade the alloys though to at least 18" and after market springs - just so the wheels fill out the arches! Enjoy your machine mate
  7. Very beautiful car mate! Are you planning on keeping her stock or start the process of upgrades??
  8. Here's some photos after the full re-spray. More to come of engine and interior when I can get her out and about. Next job is to get the auto converted to manual...... Cheers, Shaun
  9. Talking to the tuner it has a lot to do w/ the torque converter on an automatic. He's waiting for a part that will give us a more accurate reading for torque - however, she's running 10.5psi and with 171rwkw that's a pretty good indication of where the vehicle is at. When I get her converted to manual, she should be a 200 + rwkw car no problem. Looking forward to this immensely. Ive one final trip to the spray painter for a final buff/shine then I'll be getting some photos up. Really happy w/ the way the car looks and performs now....a lot of boot! And yeah, no idea why I'm showing no posts? Any admins reading this????
  10. The extra power is certainly noticeable - and a lot of fun. But no, 536FtLb is a figure given as max torque, not reading it off the graph. I havent been able to get a hold of the tuner, but will drop by Monday to see what he thinks.
  11. OK, so have picked the vehicle up today after being dyno'd. Unfortunately, Ive noticed imperfections in the paint job inso it will be going back in Monday to get that sorted. Will be posting photos after this. VERY happy w/ the custom air intake/pod filter that has been installed - it sounds pretty awesome as well. The dyno read out is Ft Lb and HP - Im only used to dealing w/ kw and nm. The car has gone from 176HP to 233HP which is easy to convert to kw (131 to 171 rwkw). The torque units are listed as following: 415FtLb to 536FtLb. However, any unit conversion I can find online converts 536FtLb to 736nm - which is clearly impossible. Any ideas as to what's going on here??
  12. Correct, Air Flow Converter - as in the image you've attached. And yes, it cant adjust the boost, the boost will be set at the solenoid (there's already a component attached to do this as previous owner overrode the factory 5psi then 7 psi to set it at 7 permanently). Yours only had just over 100rwkw before the tune? Is that lower read out straight from the factory? What's the max torque now? looks to be about c. 530nm?? That's touching of XR6 Turbo territory! That's a very big increase in power. The only draw back appears to be that the majority of the torque is only accessed in the high rev range. Full torque from as 2000rpm would be nice.....but then I should probably buy a new car if I was looking for that.
  13. The vehicle came w/ an APEXI air flow metre already fitted. I hadnt thought about it as I was under the wrong impression as to it's functionality. We're going to use this, to turn up the boost to 12 psi and optimize air/fuel ratio. No need to swapout ecus (and avoid VCT issues etc). Dallas is also able to make up a pod filter w/ piping and heat shield to get rid of that naf looking stock airbox. Vehicle is going in tomorrow, so I should be able to post pre tune kw/nm figures and post tune kw/nm figures. Pretty excited about this! Will be getting some photos up of the respray later tonight or tomorrow as well. Loving this Skyline......what a car!!!!
  14. Jaustech hey? Thanks for the tip - I'll give them a ring tomorrow and sound things out. No, I dont have the ECU - I was at Dallas workshop and he has a bunch of them there. Id been in contact w/ Synergy in Adelaide earlier in this process and they had located a complete conversion kit, quoted me labour costs as well as a Dyno tune and it was very competitive. Unfortunately I cant get down to Adelaide w/ the vehicle until later in the year.
  15. That's really good to hear re Dallas James. Ive been asking around and everyone seems to say the same thing, that's he's honest and will do a good job. So that's a bit of piece of mind. His business is called DBTdyno I believe. I texted him earlier today and asked about the r32 ecu not being able to handle VCT and he says he's looking into it. Also, I was reading about nistune, and while their website isn't the greatest it seems to indicate that an automatic r32 ecu will be OK for VCT w/ an automatic R33. The page in question is here: http://www.nistune.com/equipment-products-type2.php Look at where it says the following: "Note: Manual transmission models only supported. If using an automoatic transmission model R33 Skyline then reportedly the R32 Skyline automatic transmission control module will work" Yep, Im on days of now so will be taking the Skyline and camera out for some shots over the next couple of days .
  16. Really appreciate the information Trex! I'd heard of VCT, but would never have known that using an R32 ecu would be an issue controlling VCT on an R33. Cheers, Shaun
  17. Hey Trex, would you expand on your above statement? Just reading up on VCT - what do you mean by an RPM switch?
  18. So, apparently the R32 ecu can be tuned, so my tuner will be swapping that in. There's an aftermarket component fitted to the turbo in the engine bay, and Ive decided to get the boost turned up to 12 psi, which should be fine for daily driving and longetivity. You're spot on w/ the c. 190rwkw at 12psi or about 230kw in the motor. Im also going to get a pod filter put in - purely for ascetic purposes as the previous owner cut the rubber feeding the airbox in order to fit the intercooler. Hate looking at it whenever I open the hood . Dallas is the name of the mechanic/tuner - he's Alice born and bred and well know around the automotive folk I've spoken to.
  19. There's a guy in town who has set up, and he has the only dyno in town so I'll be taking it to him. I don't think I should need a new ecu, as once it's been mapped by the mechanic and the turbo boost changed Im thinking it wont make any difference if it's auto or manual. But yes, I'll be reading quite a bit about it before going ahead. No, I haven't taken it to the drags - to be honest, drags aren't my thing! I am loving the way the vehicle looks now though, I elected to go w/ a very dark blue and I love the way it looks against the black alloys. There's minimal mods on the motor: a 3" exhaust from the turbo back and a larger intercooler. I toyed w/ the idea of swapping out the turbo (to a steel bladed one) but have decided to keep it stock. Im not chasing big power, but rather a fun car that is also good for a commute. I think I'll get the turbo set to about 12psi and I'll be happy w/ that. It's a cliche, but the car handles like she's on rails and that's good enough for me. W/ the 19" alloys, HKS suspension and 265/30 on the rear, she is a seriously capable vehicle!
  20. Hey all. Just picked up the R33 Skyline after full respray - looks amazing w/ photos to come! The next thing on the agenda is to get her Dyno tuned and Ive a question around that. If I get her tuned w/ the current autobox in it, and then when I swap the auto out for a manual, would I need to get her tuned again? I would have thought now, as the tune is purely for the motor/turbo and not really related to the gearbox. Any thoughts and advice would be much appreciated! Cheers....
  21. Im keeping her the same colour combination as I love the dark, deep purple against the black alloys. The respray is being done by P&V panel works - the boss there seems to really know his stuff and the quote was the most competitive. I'll message MIchael as well. Whereabouts are you located now?
  22. I checked out the ling you posted for the drags which is pretty cool, but the second link is to a 'dead' FB page? Appreciate the last link youve sent as Ive joined that page . The car is going in for a full re-spray next week (including the alloys) so when I get her back I'll be putting up a bunch of photos. Im going to take her for a run out to Glen Helen today though - fun fun fun! Good to hear that you got a good insurance pay out as well - you can never tell w/ insurance companies.
  23. I was also wondering what exactly happened to your midnight purple R33?? Sad looking at that photo
  24. Hey Skylin - thanks for the heads up mate! Missed the one on the 20th, and unfortunately working on the 12th. Do you have a link to where this information is posted?? I'd love to get along to one of these. Cheers mate.
