  1. A bit high there, I thought they were only $35-$40? What is involved?
  2. Think this might be a good question to add to the FAQ if there is one.
  3. My stock R32 GTR went through nearly $20 of fuel today (a quarter of the fuel tank according to the meter)!!! Wasn't boosting too much, did a few hills....but golly!!! The car seems to make "spitting" noises every now and then, is it rejecting the Australian petrol???
  4. Took my car out for a drive (to get it inspected actually) and I saw 2 Skylines. Not sure if they were GTRs but both ignored me. Bastards.
  5. I have not seen one here in Victoria, but have seen 2 when I was in Sydney a few weeks ago. Are there many in Melbourne?
  6. SSV? I think they were selling imported cars at really high prices, not sure about now. As with importers, some are good, some aren't, none that I know has any related qualification to proper sales, marketing and research. They are all getting their cars from pretty much the same sort of place, so the quality of the cars that they find is not their responsibility. Its all business so you will be paying a lot more than what the car is worth unfortunately (everybody wants a piece of your car's worth). A good importer can give you a full report, service books and pictures any time. He will not pressure you into buying a car because of some auction cutoff period or whatever. And, he should be able to find the exact car that you want, otherwise most importers should be OK. Good luck.
  7. My wheels are 17s, so no problems there. Can anyone tell me where to get a fuel restrictor? I heard that you can buy it off Mitsubishi for their Magnas.
  8. Its up to you mate. Going there and finding the car you want will take time and will be difficult if you don't understand the language, however, you will be getting a car that : - you definitely want - has been serviced regularly and should still have the service books - is clean - you pay for what you get (if its in poor shape then its very cheap, in good shape then it will be a little more expensive) I went through an importer and never got the car I wanted. I went to Japan and saw it everywhere. In fairness, you can probably find a car that might be close to what you want via the pool of cars that an importer might have. You can just buy that and fix up everything that needs fixing (believe me all imported cars need fixing one way or another). There are just so many nice cars available in Japan that a lot of people aren't aware of.
  9. Does anyone have a picture of an R32 GTR without the rear wing? Would like to see what one looks like.
  10. Just a quick question, my car's timing belt has been changed as indicated by the sticker on the engine, does that mean that its already had its "100k" service?
  11. Yeah sorry had a spelling fit recently, comes in bouts I'm looking for stuff to help comply my car (child restraints, fuel restrictor etc). So far I've been looking at the wrong places (Ford/Holden wreckers) and I don't know any other Skyline/GTR owners in Melbourne (just came back after spending 3 years in Japan). Ta for the help. BTW, where the heck is Spotswood?
  12. You can do better getting the car yourself. Importers source their cars from a limited supply, which if you think about it isn't all that big. Just my experience
  13. I went through Kiwi Carrier and Seaway. Had a pair of shoes stolen and noticed my bonnet had a pin dent. Can't find anything else missing as I had quite a few things in it but it went alright. Sorry to hear about your troubles, hope you get it sorted out.
  14. Can anyone help advice on some wreakers in Melbourne? I'm looking for parts to compile my car. Ta.
  15. Hi, I'm in Victoria and my car is a late 91 model (though how can I check that properly?). I don't understand what is "Guided Mode".
  16. I'm doing the compliancing on my R32 myself before getting it checked by the engineer to get the personal imports plate. I've read the DIY compliance thread, but since I actually owned my car overseas the conditions are a little different. The following was brought up during my conversation with one engineer : 1. Child restraint points, no problem can get this from supercheap or autopro 2. Drivers mirrors, someone said that this doesn't need to be changed. Mine looks quite flat, so how concave is concaved? 3. Fuel restrictor, someone said that a sticker will do, another said that it has to be done for a few dollars, which is it? 4. High rear brake lights, can do. Things that the engineer didn't mentioned : 5. VIN plague, I can do this myself no problem. 6. Seat belts, mine are fine but do these need to be changed? 7. I have non-original wheels, do I need stickers for this and what do they look like? Are there anything else that I need to do/change? Thanks in advance. Was pretty happy to see the car after only a month but had something stolen from it unfortunately.
  17. Hi thanks for the helpful thread. I'm importing my own personal car that I owned in Japan. Just wondering what is the process like for self-imported car owners like myself?
  18. I've tried both mitsui OSK and k line and both said that they don't export personal cars.
  19. Thanks for that, I'll get the car deregistered, then send it to the shipping yard. Kiwi carrier said that because I need to transport my car from Brisbane to Melb, they're offering some kind of compensation to cover the land transport cost (not all of it but just part of it). The overall cost still amounts to "their estimate", and I don't think it includes whatever i need to pay to the aussie gov. Well, today is a public holiday so I'll find out tomorrow.
  20. Yeah I think I'll just go with them. I have a question about deregistration, am I suppose to do that after I have the car in the shipping yard or can I do it before?
  21. Thanks, unfortunately I've no idea how to do that. Been e-mailing and calling a few companies. I cannot believe how much I was quoted. I'm trying to bring back my own car not make a million dollars!
  22. I've been trying to find some companies to help ship my car back to Australia from Japan, but getting some strange quotes. I was quoted 230,000 yen to bring back my car from one company! Is that right? That is suppose to include custom duty, GST, transport by land (from Brisbane to Melbourne because they only ship to Brisbane). I thought it should be way less than that unless I'm missing something. They didn't give me a quotation to break down the cost which is kind of dodgy. Can anyone else recommend other shipping companies in the region of Funabashi/Chiba?
  23. Here's a video sent to me of this year's motor show. Enjoy! http://www.englishnewbie.com/tokyomotor.avi (35mb)
  24. I'm looking for any good shipping companies in Tokyo to ship my car back to Melbourne. Does anybody know any?
