  1. Ah nice. I wondered. I thought it might have been chopped up for "drift style points". And picking up someone else projects can be fun. It's how i got a couple of my cars on the cheap. Welcome aboard. I'm sure there'll be heaps of people interested in this. Maybe start a build thread so I can follow along with your progress.

  2. Welcome back to the club! I hate to be a downer, but it looks like your car is missing a component. ?

The body looks pretty clean considering most of these have been turned into drift missiles.

Is there an interesting story behind how you picked it up? :) (also more pictures please).

  3. I take my cars to RacePace. When i'm not around (which is starting to feel like always), I tow truck it to them. It's only about $100 from the city, so factor in another $50 from your side of town. The tow truck driver doesn't even need to know how to start it, as long as he has access to the interior (to release handbrake, and pop out of gear).

Gareth and Chris at RacePace have been excellent to work with and explain everything down to the last detail. It must be annoying for them as every customer must start at a similar point of knowledge and Gareth and Chris must both spend half their lives explaining the same things over and over. Would recommend 10/10.

  4. The main issue you will run into though is the ceramic components in the GTRs turbos. These give out after a certain amount of boost is applied and can do serious damage. You will want to search the limits of the GTRs turbos.

I am in no doubt that this would have been covered a number of times. Hit up the search button, see what you can find.

    Actually here you go;

  5. Jesus. That is one hell of a mess.
I'm not an expert on these things, but potentially it could be as you say, an after market ECU.
It could also be (have been) alarm/immobiliser/tracker or possibly even a drive control module (to adjust front to rear bias).

What ever was there, probably doesnt matter too much now, but it would be wise to tidy that up and make those connections neat and safe.
Even if it doesn't fix your issue now, that mess is guaranteed to cause problems down the line.

But you have assets/savings, that's all that matters!

There are plenty of folks who burn all their cash on shit and have the latest and greatest whiz bang parts - which I think is a poor life choice.

If you ever have some spare time, look at Leppington, Austral, etc. near Badgery's Creek airport in NSW. It will be zoned for 24/7 flights and assuming so would mean 24/7 businesses/companies/logistic hubs.

Future plans for train extension from Leppington -> Airport.

    Just an idea :)

100%. We are pretty well ahead.
And you are the second person to give me this heads up so, i guess i'll have to start looking into it. :)

and assuming you own property :)

Not quite, we did well in Melbourne Real Estate then got sick of it. We tried to pick the top of the market and missed by about 12 months. Missed a cool quarter of mil (guesstimate obviously). We rent in hipster paradise, never had it easier.
we'll go back into the housing market in a few years, when we think it will be at it's lowest, but for now we're just coasting, buying what we like, having fun and trying not to burn through the money that came out of selling.

I was lol... did my 2U Maths in Year 11 and 4U in Year 12.... now all the partying, beer, drugs, E85 fumes have made me dumb

I wasn't stupid in school, i was just never there, cause i was a little know it all prick, i guess. Have spent the last 10 years slaving away to get ahead in the corporate world. sigh, if i'd just knuckled down instead of being an arrogant jerk, i'd be doing even better. Still sometimes you just gotta figure the world out on your own.

I'm too white and my girls are full ginger so we ain't about that sunshine living.

I also fit this white description. I believe pastey is mentioned often regarding my completion. My friends called me "Tip Top" because that's how white i am.
Also I can recommend a bog standard E60 530i if you like cruising around in comfort. We have a wagon and it is just perfection. Just enough power for overtaking, nice soft suspension (ish), and the interior noise is non-existent.
It's also cheap as hell to fix if you can read codes and operate torx screwdrivers.

Haha I'm a bit picky how I want things done, hence I doubt I could ever find a car that's built the way I like. So that leaves me two options, build it myself OR find a stock, fast, reliable car lol.

100% understand that. I was super lucky with the LM. I put a lot of trust in people i didn't know. It worked out for me, thankfully. But I can definitely understand wanting to make sure everything was done right/your way. The LM still needed cosmetic works but the mechanicals are solid so it's a good starting point.

Fast and reliable... all i can say is never buy an E60 M5. It ticks one of those boxes and utterly fails on the other. What were you saying about a flash cable and credit card? ?

Get an optima yellow top once this one dies. they can handle many more deep discharges than any normal lead acid battery. Mine gave up only recently after 9 years of service and going flat 20+ times

Thanks for the tip. Saves me doing the research myself. :)

Mid spec ctek and up will have a rejuvenate setting that seems to work well when I was killing batteries in the Silvia.

100%. After I had jammed as many amps as I could to bring the voltage up, I popped it onto the CTEK and let it run the conditioning cycle a couple of times.
Worked ok from what i can tell. ?

  13. Well, that escalated... can't we all get along?

For what its worth the LM has small rust spots on some things; bonnet strut/holder, the bonnet catch and bracket have surface rust and also a spot about the size of a 10cent coin under the rear glass above the boot, right in the middle. The rust in the rear has been fixed and painted previously, but just knowing it's there hurts.

If I remember i'll take a picture of it.

The Silver GTR though... can't see any rust. ?
It might actually be rust free (except for the brake discs). Cue people telling me to drive them. lol

    Hah, that old chestnut.

I picked up a Ctek MX5.0 cheap at Repco of all places, good unit and came with 2 sets of comfort leads for quick changing between cars.

You could also look at the cheap solar cigarette lighter trickle chargers.

I have this, except that the cars are jerks and I think the Silver GTRs battery is a little less capable than that in the LM or my wagon.

I'm looking for a second CTEK... so much effort for cars that don't move. (rolls eyes).

  15. To save this one, i shoved 100+ Watts into it from a power supply i have lying around. I seem to have saved it, but after being so horribly drained, I can't imagine it will be all that wonderful from now on.

I also add, i know this isn't what you are supposed to do with batteries, but, I was desperate.

  16. Another christmas holiday down. Another poor effort getting the cars out for a run. Neither myself, nor my wife managed to have enough time to take either car out.

The new GPS/Tracking system is draining the battery and i only have a single charger between three cars.

Killed the battery in the Silver GTR good. In my defense, it looks to be old and is a small capacity battery.

I'm keeping an eye on the internet for decent priced chargers.20181223_144024.jpg20181223_144013.jpg20181223_143902.jpg

  17. Do whatever you want my tip is to never listen to me I only dribble shit
Ha! I have said this exact comment to people before! I once called out a 33 with a 34 GTR front end. Called it an abomination, a guy sends me a PM of his car with a 34 front end, 33 back end. (I feel bad for a few minutes).
On a serious note though the R33 GTR LM was my dream car. Money no object is a 400R. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has this opinion (or am I?).
  18. OK, mine was brought in Feb/2000 by AVO Turbo
No paperwork exists from this timeframe (I asked them) - and its too early for the JOC records.
When I say paper work i mean the notes that came with the car. The buyer took notes on the dealers inventory before he decided which car to buy.
