    Hey All

    amusing reading!
  2. Nah the VLs didn't come, they left after the meet up at the servo. We got stuck behind some old guy near the gully pub and couldn't pass for a while so were a few mins back. Didn't hang around after that.
  3. Hope it finished well, apologies for not sticking around. Someone decided they couldn't be bothered cruising any more
  4. He was doing the same thing up Currie/Grenfell St at lunch time yesterday
  5. We bought an 89 GTR from Sydney. As 89s do not come fitted with the green compliance plate, the car had to undergo a full inspection at Regency, along with us having to show proof of compliance (i.e engineer's certificate) and import approval papers. Regency provided me with an Application for Exemption from Compliance Plates form which had to be filled out and submitted with the other import papers etc. Ours was a fresh import and had never registered before, but we were advised that even if it had been previously registered in another state, we would still have been required to undergo a full inspection.
  6. Looks like you're in the same situation as us, we've been waiting for two months.
  7. Nightcrawler, I still have mine too! I just ordered them from a guy off this site, they were $5 each at the time and he sent them by Express Post. Had them in a few days. I think his website was www.street-weapons.net or something similar...
  8. We recently purchased an ABS unit and dash for an R32 GTR on Ebay from an 'aneurysm' in Cairns but have never received the items. If you're the same person, we'd appreciate the items being sent to us or a full reimbursement.
  9. Geez they don't waste any time sending those letters out do they?! Only got the car through Regency and registered last week and got the letter in the post yesterday.
  10. That was what the inspector told me too. He said that if it didn't have a compliance plate, whether it had been previously registered or not in another state, it would require a full inspection. It is was post 1989 and had a plate, no inspection would have been required. He then gave me the exemption forms which according to Vehicle Standards aren't required for 15yo imports anymore, only non imported cars without compliance plates. The Vehicle Standards guy then told me to diregard the exemption form and gave me Forms 71 and 71a which I have to fill out and present with the engineer's report at the inspection. It is so true that you have to get the right inspector, the guy I got had been away on leave for 4 weeks and claimed that he didn't know the new rules when the Vehicle Standards guy told him he was doing the wrong thing.
  11. Thats what the Vehicle Standards guy said. The inspector gave me an Application for Exemption from Compliance Plates form and told me to fill it out and take it to Vehicle Standards. When I did that, the Vehicle Standards guy told me that the inspector was wrong and I didn't need the exemption forms. He said if the car had been a Commodore or other non import it would have required the exemption. Instead he gave me Instructions 71 and 71A which are apparently for 15yo and older imports. The Vehicle Standards guy said all that is needed for the inspection is an engineer's report to prove that it has been complied, no plate required. Who knows, will probably get another story when I go back for the inspection in a few weeks...
  12. I'm not sure if you've all got 15yo imports or others imported under SEVS, but I've just been to Regency this morning and apparently 15 year old imports don't need to have compliance/identity plates. We bought a 1989 R32 GTR from Sydney yesterday, which has been complied but never registered in Australia. Called Regency twice last week and they told us that if it had been complied, it would only need to have an ID check. Got there this morning and the inspector tells me that it should have a green compliance plate fitted and has to undergo a full roadworthy because it has no plate fitted. I told him what we'd been told by Vehicle Standards about no plates and he got really crabby, gave me an aplication form for an exemption of compliance plates and told me to deal with them about it. I've gone over to Vehicle Standards who tell me that I do not require an exemption for compliance plates for a 15yo import. I am only required to show an engineer's report as proof of compliance and then undergo a full inspection, which they can't do for three weeks. The Vehicle Standards guy then takes me back over to the inspector who he blasts for not knowing the rules re not issuing compliance plates for 15yos. The guys down there don't know what they are doing! Wonder if we'll get a letter at a later date too?
  13. Hmm, I'm not sure about the whole interstate thing now. As I said above, my friend went to get her car checked at the Sturt police station and they told her they couldn't do it, that the vehicle had to have a full roadworthy inspection at Regency, then other people get thru Sturt without a problem. Wonder what the actual rules are on this?....
  14. Just plain inconsistencies, there's no explanation for it I guess  Depends how they feel on the day. I know what you mean though, my friend moved here from Melbourne and she had to take her stock as a rock Laser to Regency to get it inspected before she could get it registered. She had to pull her tint off on the spot before they would let her car through.
  15. A friend recently bought a 33 from a car yard on South Road. The car yard owner had picked the car up at an auction in Sydney and therefore had to have the car registered in SA before he could sell it. He told us that he simply took the car to the Sturt Police Station and it was inspected and then passed with an aftermarket blow off valve, turbo timer and 20% tint. Another 33 he had at the yard was also passed at Sturt Police Station on a different day with extremely dark tint, EBC, blow off valve and turbo timer. The only thing he was told to remove was the dual A-pillar pod gauges. I'm not sure why there was not a requirement for him to have these cars Regency inspected as I thought was the requirement for cars that come from interstate.
  16. That's low A friend had a traffic sergeant come into his work the other day and he asked him about cops' general thoughts on imports. He basically said if they hear anything that sounds like a BOV then they'll pull you over. Another friend backed this up by telling me that he also got defected for a stock BOV, he tried to tell the cop that it was factory and her comment was "no cars come with factory BOVs". These people need to be educated so that they actually know what they are looking for
  17. Its ok, most guys won't admit that they watch it
  18. I'll be there. Friend just bought a MY99 Rex so he wants to take it for a bit of a hills run too... if he's welcome with all of the 'lines that is!
  19. I'll be there Friend just bought a MY99 Rex so he wants to take it for a bit of a hills run too...
  20. It sounds like you watch too much Queer Eye Dean
  21. Hmmm nope pretty sure it wasn't me I don't have a GTR
  22. Steve, I'm not saying Dean was 'silly enough'. Getting defected when you're doing nothing and minding your own business is just plain wrong. I was referring directly to my friend being silly. He does things which attract unwanted attention and hence he gets himself defected. If he didn't attract that attention, I 'd bet that he wouldn't have been defected so many times. I wouldn't leave my car stock if I got defected, I'd probably put it back the way it was, but I'd just try to avoid any unwanted attention, unlike him. The point of my original post wasn't that anyone deserves to be defected anyway, because usully they don't, it was simply that you can go thru Regency so many times and each time get screwed over for something different, just another example of their inconsistencies. Hope this clarifies.
