G'day My R33 GTST developed a squeaking noise in neutral with clutch out about Dec 09 I spent $950 getting a new heavy duty clutch, spigot bearing and machined flywheel put in - was sorted. Then December last year it started again. I have done 9,000km if that but because of the length of time and no km's recorded on workshop jobsheet (they're a reputable shop in Perth too) I don't really wanna cry warranty. Any idea's what could cause this? Cheers -bloke who's almost had enough of his Nissan

hey man i own snozzles old 33gtst with similar problem fresh oil change with motul (make sure engine is hot when you drop old oil) works well it will eventually came back tho, lifter free additives not advised best just to live with the noise or take it somewhere to get it fixed properly car still drives like a dream though also check cam cover/rocker cover screws aren't loose, they're all easy to get too and it takes 5mins this dramatically reduced the ticking

I had a vertical mount radar detector plastered smack bang in the center of my windscreen for 12 months Never even got pulled over once and it was pretty obvious because I have no tint, so car behind could see it. Just don't be a dick to the police officer and you SHOULD be ok. I should get another, I miss the constant beeping -dave

hey mate i have had noisey exhaust gaskets on my old v8 commodores before this is a much more metalic tapping noise and it sounds like it's only the single lifter. heard some mixed reports about mobil super 2000 so going to flush it hot and try fusch super gto 10w40w and yes i haven't changed my oil lately it's about 5400km old however still have to nurse car and back to work until wednesday. this morning the noise had gone away again? it's driving me nuts. seems "mobil" and "mobil 1" branded oils are worlds apart, with about a $40 price difference for 5litres so don't beleive everything you see on the bottle like 'semi synthetic' hopefully the fusch stuff is a bit better it's only $55 or so a bottle and as mentioned im always reluctant to add engine additives as i used a stop leak in my old commodore 5 litre once and it made the oil leaks disappear for a couple months, then come back with a vengence and make the car undrivable. seems a shame since my engine is in otherwise such good nick (158,000km.. perfect compression). thanks for the help will report back. -dave

g'day. my r33 has an intermittant noisey lifter at rear of engine that is now consistantly tapping at idle im running mobil super 2000 10w40 semi synth has anyone had any experience with the lifter quietening additives such as nulon and liquimoly and are they bad for my engine? how do they work, do I just run it in my oil for a few days since im about to service my car next weekend anyway? cheers! -dave

There is a tutorial in the DIY area of the forums with a guy shimming an R33 diff. Fairly sure R32 would be similar, he's posted step by step photos and price lists for the shims as well. I think 3.2mm (two 1.6mm shims together) is tight enough to chirp tyres while parrallel parking etc. It will wear out eventually but should last for a good while. I'm sure someone of your mechanical aptitude (aren't you a tradie?) could do it at work for the price of the shims/diff oil/gaskets etc Don't weld it up/put a minispool in. I found with my old locker in early RX7, rainy days actually required me to get sideways to go around certain corners. It's easy too do because it's so predictable but would hate to have a cop around when you have to do it.

I vote to start the cruise @ Shelley Foreshore. It's 2minutes from Leach Hwy. Also I have tools at mine on Barbican Street, SAU peeps welcome to use if they have dramas. Otherwise jump in mine or another SAU car and enjoy the drive. They have a BBQ area we could all chip in or BYO and stuff our gullets with rump beef yayyyy Awesome location overlooking Pt Salter etc. Heaps of blinged up boats and terrific view, ample parking. Great way to start a cruise and its a fantastic driving road (all 50km/h though, so be sensible-ish) along the coast until you hit leach hwy. Then maybe take Welshpool Rd up until the hills? Lake Leschenaultia destination? I've never done Zig Zag so would be fun. Come back to work on Monday refreshed Just some thoughts !! -dave ps. happy to help out logistically to make this happen.

hey mate, not really familiar with the way R32 gauges sit especially the GTR's but they might not be too accurate given my R33 is 15 years old, R32s are even older... Defi do a sweet triple gauge cluster that fits in a single DIN pocket below your stereo I think it's like oil temp, water temp and boost think its like $800 with control unit and senders cheers -dave Its an easy wire up Just do it. the boost ones just run a wire of the back of the dash its the same guage the voltage one just hook to ignition easy illumination is basic Oil temp is easy just get the temp sensor from a gtr and run a wire

It comes across as media and Police are overstating some of its abilities in a big way. I think the only areas in fines enforcement it will improve is lack of warning for those of us using existing radar detectors... AFAIK jamming frequencies when you don't have a license to transmit on them is a very serious offense. Can also fall under perverting the course of justice and it's just generally a bad idea, Police aren't stupid they will realise your 'laser parking sensors' aren't for that purpose. Eg If a Poliscan camera takes your speeding reading and instead of 76 km/h it says "X7uyP1 km/h" questions are going to be raised and probably your vehicle will be examined with or without your consent. This will be made easier by the fact Police have a clear photo of your license plate and your residential address. Be interesting to understand some more of the tech stuff behind it. If you have an iphone use the trapster.com mobile application with push notifications to warn others, and receive warnings on mobile speed traps. Otherwise take it easy until some more passive counteraction measures have been tried & tested! Not that I speed anywhere, just get to the limit quickly Cheers -dave

hey mate 20psi does indeed give noticably better traction but it's more for straight line stuff just be careful in particular with running taller profile tyres at that pressure, especially if you plan to corner hard/kick the back-end out.. when I was younger I was a passenger in a VN SS running low rear tyre pressures for grip and the tyre rolled off the rim. wasn't pretty. cheers, -dave

hey mate, is that a serious suggestion? i checked rear suspension bushes for wear they all seem OK, not cracked etc. car has std suspension & the clutch is h/d but still organic and as stated the problem is only up to 20km/h then it's fine, unless i boot it obviously not trying to wheelspin, just need to get momentum up so i don't hold up the flow of traffic thanks heaps, -dave

I get a little bit of axle tramp off the line Once you get above 20km/h though, you shouldn't be having any traction problems unless it's deliberate

Dollar for dollar, no. I'm sure you could spend that $1500 on other things that would make your car significantly faster. CF bonnets/boots do look good though

As far as I know all fmic's except the ARC return flow need angle grinding of bar. Even the justjap return flow does. Unless you know of some that don't? Also OP sucks your car got stickered.. chin up and get it off.. are they r32 gtr wheels on a 33? look sweet mate!

hey mate, 95 r33 here I had heavy steering issues so did HICAS lockout + alignment. I experienced intermittent heavy steering issues so removed the fuse which fixed the problem. Never had problems with arm-breaking steering in 12months UNLESS I take my car through the laser car wash that sprays underside of car with high pressure water jet. This obviously disturbs or shortens out a sensor in the back end of car and problem will reappear until I turn ignition off then on again. I'd say it's something to do with plugs near the diff. hey man! you will save money by pulling engine yourself but then you have to deliver and pick it up from reco place... also your warranty from engine builder may be void this way end of the day you have to make some decisions - how much can I afford to spend? - do I just need it running to get around? - will I be looking to keep this car for a long time? - what are my goals with the car? track/drag/drift, street fun, daily run around some hp another option would be to take it somewhere budget orientated like KYP in welshpool, have a second hand wrecker engine fitted for 4-5k, then keep your old engine on a stand and build that up yourself over time. there are some good books on the subject you can get and that way there won't be time/finance constraints. cheers

hey, sorry to bring your world crashing down but unless you have experience with vernier calipers, micrometers, ACL plastigage, measuring bearing clearances, .. can dial in camshafts etc then its probably better to take it to somewhere like a hyperdrive in malaga or similar workshops you might pay a small premium but the job will only be done once, not like f***king up and learning from your own experiences then spending double because you forgot to check something or prime the oil pump on first turnover. not saying your a muppet, it's just that engine reconditioners etc spend a decent amount of time learning their trade and if anyone could do it then they wouldn't be in business. i have had a few mates rebuild engines even tradesman but they were no engineers and the motors in question were lucky to last 20,000km in any case, dont just smash a second hand wrecker engine in there!! do it right first time good luck mate!

hey guys, the front window washer motor in my r33 isn't working these are the two small cannisters on the outside of my windscreen washer bottle im pretty sure these are the culprits i have pulled the wires out and cleaned them with electrical contact cleaner there are no blockages in the line (can blow through hose and water in bottle bubbles) the rear functions fine but you can't swap the plugs around to test the front because the prongs are different i undid the 3bolts that hold the bottle in but cant figure out how to get the motor itself off, any ideas? also are these motors the same in any locally delivered cars or still available from nissan? part #? what are the odds if i get one from a wrecker it will be broken too? thanks heaps ps sometimes i wonder if im the only person that has such random problems with cars hahah -dave

Don't usually speed.. If I do it's accidental maybe 5-6km/h's over. Haven't been booked in years. Motorcycle riders have it much worse then we do, oily patch on road is all it takes to tip them over at normal speeds. If WA Police and Mainroads had their heads screwed on correctly they would focus on traffic flow and stop putting rediculous 4 lane roundabouts in place of traffic lights. I agree with the UK Police thing though, they have the ability to make you feel like an idiot through a stern warning. No fine required. Don't get me started on Africa. They're hosting the 2010 world cup yet 2 weeks into 2010 they've already had a football team slayed down with machine gun fire (Togo at African Nationals Cup). Socceroos must be nervous as hell!! FIFA could not of made a worse choice compared to Germany 2006.

Should see what they do to motorcycle riders... Apparantly if you lose it on your bike and slide under one it's not pretty. Multanovas are OK. If you drive a road often enough you learn where they place the multanovas. You should be familar with a road before you start speeding on it anyway. In relation to hoon laws I think Rob Johnsons days as Police Minister are numbered, he has been shut down by the premier in parliment a few times. The laws could be scaled back but don't expect it to make the papers... Also resurfacing the tarmac where you turn left from leach hwy onto albany hwy is another request. Why the hell is it so bumpy? I have standard suspension and it makes my whole car shake...
