  1. Don't ground your speakers. That could damage your headunit. What car is it? Where is the antenna?
  2. Yeah I replaced most of the minibulbs in my CC when I had it out. I bought them from my local car accessory repair place but I've bought them before from a TV repair shop. They cost $1.50 - $2.00 each. You can reuse the little blue caps.
  3. Fhrx, yeah I've covered the service holes with MDF, applied a large pack of Serenity max and 4 Focal Plain chant pads per door. Have you ever fitted the MW160GTs to a R32? Although they are much more compact than the MW160 they are still deeper than the average 6.5". I could easily fit most 6.5" or some 6x9s if I wanted them as they usually don't need 76mm of depth to clear the surround. I'd like to see some pics of custom door buildouts if anyone has done an R32. Thanks.
  4. Quote mtopxsecret6 "How are you mounting the speeaker? Are you just mounting thwem to the metal door? I would suggest using 18mm mdf as a backing board then putting the speaaker onto that. Dont worry about putting the speakers speaker grill on it.. not needed when it is being proteected by the door grill. Give that a try, you will find it will work. Heck, if i can fit a 4inch and a 5.25 inch in a 4inch speaker fitment, anything can be done." Thanks for your reply. I made a baffle and mounting ring to fiberglass at the correct angle with the speaker magnet as far back as possible but when I checked the clearances by refitting the door trim the top edge of the factory grille touched the speaker surround which needs 8mm of clearance during operation. The space is physically 8mm too small for this speaker to fity behind the factory grille. Quote Fhrx "The R32 skyline will happily take 6" speakers in the front doors." Not my 160GTs but then they're 6.5s" I don't regret my choice of driver. I'll make it fit. Then again if I have to make a custom buildout I may as well fit my MW170s. I just wanted to know how other people have approached this job in the R32s.
  5. I've just tried to fit 6.5" speakers to the front doors of my R32 and they won't fit behind the factory grille. Are there any tricks I might have overlooked? They are 62mm deep plus they need 14mm clearance in front to clear the suuound, 76mm total depth. There is 68mm between the window mechanism and the top edge of the factory grille so they are 8mm too big. How deep are the 6.5" speakers that people on here have fitted successfully?
  6. It's been a year and I finally got around to replacing the front speakers in my R32.. I bought some 6.5" splits and went to fit them tonight and there is no way in h*ll they are going to fit behind the factory grilles. Initially I thought they would fit but when I checked the window mechanism it would have hit the speaker magnet. If I pull the speaker out a bit the surround will hit the edge of the grille. They need about 8mm more distance between the window and the door trim to fit. I think my only option is to modify the factory doortrim to clear the speaker surround. If I've got to do a custom buildout maybe I should go nuts and put in a pair of 8" midbass drivers I already have instead of the 6.5"s. Has anyone here done custom door buildouts on aR32 before? Pics? Thanks.
  7. Thanks BHDave. Do you know the offset of the R32 GTR rims? Could they fit a GTSt without too much trouble?
  8. I think my R32 GTSt rims are 16"x 6.5" What are the offsets?
  9. My R32 only has the antennae in the front and rear windscreen. There is no conventional aerial. I bought an aerpro adapter today and it has a female socket for the stock dual diverity plug and then it splits into two wires. One has the standard male aerial plug as you would expect but the other has a standard female aerial socket and I don't know what it's for. Just to see how it works I checked it with a multimeter to see what connects to what. I found out only one of the dual diversity prongs connects to the male aerial plug that plugs into the HU. That means that only one of my antennae will be used. The other prong connects to the unused female socket so it seems to do nothing. I hope that makes sense. Can anyone tell me what the second wire with the female aerial socket is there for? Thankyou.
  10. Chris, The R32 doesn't have an external antenna, just the ones in the front and back windscreens. Do you know if these work well with the adapter?
  11. Does the Kenwood accept the dual pin plug or has it been converted?
  12. I pulled the control unit apart to look for anything a bit sus like dry solder joints or dirty contacts. 3 screws and the face unclips. 2 more screws and the front circuit board pulls off. It is connected to the rear circuit board by a row of pins that push through a socket in the front board. This connection might be where some of the problems are. I took out the 2 screws at the back and pulled out the back CB (tight). It looked like it had been resoldered before so I tidied it up and put the thing back together. I ran it for a few minutes and it performed like new so far. Fingers crossed.
  13. How well do the Aerpro Dual diverity adapter plugs (Part No. AP 348A) work in the R32s? Is there a better way to connect the stock antennae to an aftermarket deck?
  14. Could someone post a wiring diagram for the stereo in an R32 please?
  15. No, it's not bitumen. It's some sort of weight loaded rubber inside aluminium. Easy to apply, bends and stretches over bumps quite easily.
  16. Yeah, go the Serenity Max. Much better than Brownbread IMHO.
  17. Thanks mate. PM sent with contact details. Can you send them collect? If not send them COD. $5 or something. Whatever is simpler. Thanks again Craig.
  18. OK, thanks. That would be great. Could you please send them COD to: Craig McDonald 12 Mark Pl. Goonellabah NSW. 2480 Cheers Craig.
  19. Thanks for your reply.I was hoping to find some a little closer to home but how much do you want for them and how much would freight cost?
  20. I need a pair to cut up to fit speakers. Someone must have some lying around.
  21. The best type of enclosure is the one that suits the type of sub you bought. If it's an alpine 12"? they come with an installation sheet that recommends what type of enclosure suits it. Post the exact model and someone should be able to advise you what will work best.
  22. Can you send me pics of the upper links too please? [email protected] What are you using for upper links now?
