  1. only just joined, haven't been out with the group yet, but hell, yeah, I'd be keen to meet up and maybe pick your brain a bit about the mysterious and wonderous GTS-4
  2. Thanks, I think I'm kind of set on the apexi set up, I'd rather spend the extra for the quality. If I was all about saving cash, I'd buy one off ebay. I'll probably go the batmbl twin dump, and maybe even a catco cat if they're recommended. I can just hear it now. Thanks to everyone who's helped me here.
  3. Well, considering you're ona skyline forum, you can imagine what everyone is going to say, but I'll give you as unbiased an opinion as I can manage: RX-7: It's a rotary, and I personally don't really 'get' rotaries. It's a little different, and not a bad little car, but no 'kick in the pants' appeal. Supra: Good kick in the pants appeal, solid engine, but common as dogs balls. Also, tend to get heavy and slidey when you need grip the most. R32 GTR: It wasn't banned from touring cars for nothing. 4wd, 4 wheel steer, plenty of grunt, an automotive revolution. Drawback: Err..... The amount of attention you'll get from being too damn sexy. Seriously though, if you want a dyno queen, with a bit of looks, go the supre, if you want a car that's a little different, with a few quirks, go the FC, if you want a great all round car that'll take those impossible corners, get the GTR. And going from a getz, um, well, test drive them all first. dropping the pedal in a getz might jar you a little, in any of the above cars, it might put your back out. If AWD isn't your thing, you could always look at a GTS-T, kind of like a 2wd GTR 'lite'. then again, it's all individual tastes, I'm sure plenty of supra drivers and rotary lovers will tell you a different story. Just figure out what you want your car to do, and then pick the car that does it.
  4. Yeah, it's not really something I'm after, though side mount exhausts might be cool, i't probably rather keep it simple for now.
  5. Sounds good, where can I get a batmbl dump, and how much am I looking at? A metal cat wil cost me about $300, Apexi N1 evolution cat back $1,100, add these to a dump pipe and i'm looking at about 2 grand if I do the install myself and get it dyno'd, I'm guessing. Still, that amount might even be worth it. It's a bit more than the $1500 I'd intended to spend, but if it'll get me a few more AWKW, I'm all happy, and I'm yet to hear anyone complain about an apexi exhaust.
  6. Hi all, just found this on the web, wondered if you could make it a sticky, or delete it if you think it's all covered.
  7. Found this on uniqueautosports.com.au X-FORCE STAINLESS EXHAUST SYSTEM FOR SKYLINE R32 & R33 GTS-T TURBO BACK STAINLESS EXHAUST SYSTEM FOR SKYLINE R32 & R33 GTS-T WITH HIGH FLOW CAT INCLUDED USES ONE PEICE DUMP/ENGINE PIPE. COMPONENTS AVAILABLE SEPERATELY FULL SYSTEM PRICE: $980.00 OR CAT BACK PRICE: $725.00 OR DUMP/ENGINE PIPE PRICE: $370.00 How does that look? although from what I see here, I don't understand why I can't buy a cat back exhaust, add a metalcat and a dump pipe to make it a turbo back. Still, it'd be cheaper to buy it all in one, and I suppose exhaust really is nothing more than a pipe with a cat and a muffler. And it's also less than the cost of the apexi evolution for a whole system.
  8. .... Imagine the reception: So, how did the bride and groom meet? We wuz in the same line for the dole at senta-link. Well, your parents must be very proud. Yeah, we share the same muvva, so she really cried a lot. Well, enjoy your night Yeah, her sister is looking sweet, hey bro.
  9. Yeah I got my own sheet steel and a set of tin snips that should let me make a CAI around the pod. I might take the car into an exhaust shop and see what they say. I was leaning towards brand names for reliability and quality, but if there's not much difference, I'm certainly not afraid t save money.
  10. OK, but I was thinking of getting the catback, adding a metalcat, and a 3" front pipe, won't that effectively make it a turbo-back, or am I off base? It's also been a matter of what parts I can find, most places don't advertise price, and if I call up and sound like I don't know anything (which isn't far from the truth) I'll probably get my pants pulled down on the price, laughed at by everyone else, go into a downward spiral of drinking and self abuse, and then wake up one day in a pile of my own excrement wondering where my life all went wrong, then recalling my exhaust dilemma and cry myself into oblivion. My personal preferences are to go for a HKS, Apexi or Kakimoto turbo back exhaust system, but finding a full turbo back system price has been impossible, hence the plan to build one from components. Or am I hitting myself in the head with a tack hammer?
  11. Yeah, I was looking at a metalcat, as these seem to be the most recommended on the forums. I'll probably use a silencer, I want to have a sleeper. that's kind of why I picked a gts-4. It's a bit different. Kind of funny about the past the last window bit though. I didn't know that. Guess no side mount exhaust for me, but it'd be legal to have a rooster tail exhaust? well, I guess I'll bolt those bits on and take it to a dyno. Thanks guys. er... Any particular awd dyno you can recommend?
  12. OK, firstly, Yeah, I'm a noob, if you want to give me crap about it, that's fine, but I reserve the right to give you a kick in the figs later. OK, so, I've got this GTS-4, so stock that it still has that new car smell. Mmmm mmm... leathery fresh... Anyway, I want to get a bit more out of it... Yeah, I've got the bug, my wallet is already starting to go bulemic, vomiting up money as fast as I can put it in there. but apart from that, I got a few questions about my first few mods. I've searched the forums , and got a lot of conflicting views, and a lot of advice that assumes I'm willing to spend more on the car than what I bought it for, so if all these queries have been answered before, forgive me, or don't and your nads will meet my boot at some later occasion. So. To start with, I thought the exhaust and intacke could use a trick. Bought an Apexi pod and adapter ($150) , and have my eye on an apexi N1 evolution exhaust system ($1.2k part), I've read some good reviews on the forums about the apexi exhaust, so I've decided that spending the extra dosh could be worth it. The questions: 1. Do I need an engineers cert for these mods? 2. If I put them on myself, and then go to a place that can dyno tune an awd, will they sign off on the engineers cert? 3. Should I also look at a new cat, and other pipes? about how much is a good price for these, and any recommended brands? 4. any awd dyno places in melbourne anyone can recommend? 5. What's a fair price for fitting these two items if i can't be arsed, or if it works out easier to do it at the same place that has the dyno. that's it. I'm on a budget (aren't we all) but I'd rather spend the cash initially to get it done right, than spend later to fix up problems made by inferior parts/ fitting. And just to get it going, my future mod plans are mostly handling based, I'll throw on some strut bars, some coil overs, and maybe a lick of paint. Well, any opinions? Oh and flamers, just remember my size 12's....
  13. How much did those mods cost you? and what type of exhaust?
  14. I'm interested too, My R32 GTS-4 is on it's way from japan, and it's 100% stock. I'm looking at a more modest initial goal of 170 KW at all four, and am thinking that a pod, turbo back exhaust, and a new turbo should do it for about $3-4K. Eventually I'd be looking at the supporting mods, fuel pump, oil cooler, brakes, coilovers, etc. If any other GTS-4ers have any hints or tips, I'd be incredibly appreciative. It's the first car I've really gotten excited about in a while, well, since I got my first car 10 years ago anyway.
  15. thanks guys, I'll be going through a lot of it with Jspec, but I just like to get independant information, y'know? 1 intake mod huh? Pod filter or FMIC.... hmm.... I'll probably go the pod and add the FMIC later, just for cost sake.... it comes with the stock rims, but I just thought, while they're removing the tyres from the rims, may as well not bother and just put new tyres on new rims, Oh, and it's through the new SEVS scheme. So just to make sure I understand, I can get the mods done after compliancing, and can have a pod, turbo back exhaust (withing Db requirements), and strut bars, and still be 100% legal? Do I need engineers certificates for the pod and exhaust? Other mods to look at later are mainly handling based, upgrade suspension, brakes, that kind of thing, I want the car to be a normal looker, and have a fairly normal note, but be able to handle really well, it's a gts-4 so it's not gonna be belting the Gts-t's anyway (well, unless it's wet.... then we can see....) The one piece of rice I was thinking of doing was vinyl. I know, I know, big wank alert, but I've always liked blue racing stripes on white cars. What can I say, it's a weakness, kind of like how I prefer blondes with big boobs and the IQ of your average piece of furniture. I know they're no good for me, and I know it'll never amount to much, but I'm like a junkie who just can't kick the habit, although that seems to have changed now that my girlfriend is quite smart, and is also a champion rifle shooter, who's father makes guns. Yes, makes them (legally). er.... that was a bit of a tangent.... er.. carry on.
  16. OK, I know a lot of the questions I have are answered elsewhere, and all around the forums, but some of the info is contradictory, so I'll try to get something here, if it's good, it could be a sticky I guess. Well, by the title, I'm in the process of importing an R32 GTS-4. I chose the '4 because I wanted something a little different, and with a lot of traction, without the GTR price tag or maintenence. I'm using J-spec, and they seem reliable, is this so? with the compliancing, I have to get new tyres anyway, so I was looking at adding new rims, will this need to be done after compliancing? Any pitfalls I should look out for? The car is stock, so I won't need to take parts off and replace them after, but if I want to add a few bits (turbo timer, rims, exhaust, alarm and paper air pod) should I get that done at the same time? Also, is this all 100% street legal, because the last thing I want is the big defect sticker. I'm also sending an application to SAU to join, I've been using these boards for info for a while, so it seems like a good idea. Any other hints or thoughts would be handy, especially if someone else has imported a GTS-4. Have a great one guys. -Koz
  17. I'd like to know this too, the conversion kit seems OK though, anyone know a local outlet?
  18. Hi guys, please forgive the newbie question, but I'm just wondering something. I'm looking at a 4 door R32 GTS-T, it seems all sweet, but being a 4 door, it has the blackened rear brake lights. Just curious as to how big a job it is to replace these with the coupe rear lights, if it's just a 10 min unscrew hook up job, or more substantial? I know it's basic, bbut hey, gotta start somewhere.
  19. Yeah, I was more concerned with the initial rego after compliancing. In adelaide, they make you take off EVERYTHING. The car has aftermarket shocks, an airpod, a turbo timer, and a few other little (but entirely legal) bits. I was hoping that vic roads may be less..... Crap. If they are, I'll get my car complied there, otherwise, I'll get it done in adelaide.
  20. Hi guys. I'm moving from delaide to melbourne within a month or 2, and so I pretty much have the option of registering in either melbourne or adelaide. I know in adelaide, the make you take off all mods except wheels, and was wondering if they did the same in Victoria, or if it was a little more leniant. Anyway, any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
  21. I think the 'horses for courses' argument is pretty played out, so I'll relate a personal story. I've driven an R32 GTR and a XR BA (non turbo) around, but for long distance driving, the Aussie cars are made for aussie conditions. Granted, the R32 was lowered, and should have been set up better for the long drive (Both were driven from Broken Hill to Adelaide, about a 600km drive) but the XR's added weight meant that driving over the assorted pot holes, rail tracks and stuff meant nothing, whereas in the skyline, we had to be really careful not to scrape anything. But having said that, the GTR was not mine, so I was extra cautious. All in all, I'd rather hit a roo in a falcon than a skyline. Though I'd rather drive a skyline on better quality roads.
  22. Is it cheaper to buy the compliance parts yourself, give it a crack and have the workshop do what you can't, or do they all insist on buying the parts and marking them up for you?
