  1. Start with replacing your battery.

  3. On the news earlier this week was a story about the police auctioning off confiscated hoon cars. The interesting thing was I didn't see an import in the footage, there was a stack of commodores, a couple of falcons and some camrys shown, and a motor bike.
  4. It might be worth checking your intercooler hoses. One may be blowing off when it gets to X boost then settling back on the pipe. I could be off track, just a thought.
  5. Good call, this forum eats up and spits out workshops that try to get work off of here. Do some searchs on workshops that have tried to help members in the past, most of them have moved on from here never to return. You will be the flavour of the month while you are giving them forum member discounts, then another shop will undercut you to get the work and BOOM you were a rip-off and you will get bagged and dumped. Not all members of this forum are users and abusers, but a few bad apples as they.
  6. I give it 6 months before the courts are backed up to the extent that it will take a couple of years for defect notices to get heard. The magistrates will probably get the shits and ask for the police to deal with the defects again. Or they will do the same thing as they have done with the druggies , they have set up special drug courts where they go in tell the magistrate they have seen the error of their ways , and they won't do it again, the magistrate is happy the druggie is happy and the police are pissed. That is why "HOONS" (read import owner) are getting busted at the moment and drug users are being left alone, the cops couldn't be bothered catching and charging someone that the courts are letting off lightly. On a different note but related, I have been keeping track of all the fatal road accidents over the last 12 months where there have been multiple young people killed in a single vehicle, and have noticed that nearly every one of them has been a commodore. If you want to present a case to ACA or Today Tonight as a club (SAU) about imports being unfairly targeted by police do some reseach and see if I am correct, find out which cars are more likely to be involved in accidents causing multiple deaths, imports or domestic. Hope this post makes sense, Cheers
  7. Have a look under pricing. Gav will recommend replacing the water pump at the same time which is a smart move. I worked for Gav for a long time , he is good. http://www.autech.net.au/
  8. Hi everyone i'm a transport dept inspector, thanks for listing the dodgy RWC inspection stations. I'll be sending people around to these places to do full audits on them, might even close down a couple that have been listed. Na, i'm just kidding but what if I was, this sort of info should be sent via PM not on a public forum for anyone to read. Think before you type, Cheers
  9. Mate i'm a mechanic and have been for 30+years and I get pretty defensive when we all get lumped together as rip-offs. If you really want to know how long it takes to do a job on a car ,go to an automotive bookshop and buy a times guide book. These books will give you a fair idea on labour times, their not cheap but if it saves you getting over charged its worth it. cheers exnizmech p.s. If you can't find an automotive bookshop try Repco or similar.
  10. If you think that mechanics are ripping off bastards, get off your arse do a four year mechanics apprenticeship. Buy the $6000 - $20000 worth of tools then make sure you keep up to date with every make and model of car so that you can talk intelligently to the owners about their particular vehicle Also make sure you know everthing about every aftermarket part thats out there . You should probably do the same thing with panel beating, spray painting, auto electrics, trimming, exhausts, suspension because you sound like the sort of person that no tradesman would want to deal with. End of rant, Cheers exnizmech
  11. Sorry to be pedantic Col but the correct mod plate code is LB1.
