this is the bracket he made up. its not even welded in just three bolts. but oh well ive got the paper work at least. cant be harrased about it ever again.
-
anyone know any good detailors? want to get my engine bay done and a full cut polish and wax.
-
would probably cost more to buy a new instrument cluster or to have this one looked at. was gonna be $50 just to look at it. then if they couldnt fix it your out of pocket 50 bucks and you still have to buy a tacho. plus if you put it back in the same spot u cant get canaried for it.
-
skylines seam reknown for tachos dying. my tacho went crazy too. not like yours though. mine just darts from left to right sometimes between 1000 and 4000, sometimes 6000 to 8000. completely eratic. i just bought a cheap tacho from autobarn $120 bucks 3 3/4 inch drift neo. sits perfect infront of the old one. didnt want a 5 inch and not sure if a 4inch would fit in the instrument cluster.

ive circled the relevant areas in the pics. (not very well) you may have the snorkel for the air box still on. it just unclips. make sure when you buy a pod it comes with a plate like mine i think if you say its for a skyline it may come with it but not sure didnt buy mine came on the car.

what state are you in? different rules for different states. in vic you can have only one intake mod, either an aftermarket intercooler or an aftermarket pod. if you get a pod it must be of a paper base type not oil based like the k&n pods. it must be secured cant have it floppin around and you cant take out the air flow meter. if you look at your air box you will see the air flow meter (afm) its the thing running into it with the plug hanging off it. id post you a pic but its not working for me. it bolts onto the air box with 4 bolts. the air box its self is held in with 4 bolts too. if you want to put a pod in remove the bolts to the air box first then undo the hose clamp that attaches the afm to the rubber pipe thing. once you have done that you can pull out the whole air box with the afm attached to it. unbolt the afm from the box, bolt on your pod, slide the afm back into the rubber pipe thing do up the hose clamp and your basicaly done. you just need to secure it so it doesnt flop around which can be done any way you want. or unclip the clips pull out the panel filter and put a new one in then do up the clips (this is for an r33 by the way but im guessing a 34 is the same)

you would be doing everyone a big favour if you did. pity we didnt stumble on this last week. $300 bucks for a braket and a piece of paper. i know what your saying i doubt i even needed the bracket the pipe going through is 3mm thick anyway that should crumple pretty good. But as far as i know this was the only way to clear my defect.
-
im running wolf but my afm is still in. i dont really need it there other than to hold my pod on. if you can get me something something to bolt my pod to then you can borrow mine.
-
my bad didnt read the post properly.
-
arnt you gonna need one anyway? or is it not starting and you think you need an afm but dont wanna waste your money incase its something else?

if these engineers you know can vouch for what your saying and put their name on the line and sign it off, then problem solved. if not then i dont think its gonna help. the only people that could decide wheather its altered the integrity of the structure is an engineer and if hes not willing to sign it off then it doesnt mean shit. if he can and will then perhaps post up some details so people can get it in writting before there get canaried. i really hope he can. i just paid $300 for my engineer to sign mine off. DOH!

gtr would have been crash tested with the hole gtst hasnt. can anyone tell me how i can cut and copy that document trying to but cant and wont let me save it either.
-
ill print that out and take to my engineer when i pick my car up at 3 and see what he says about it.
-
yes i would also like to know where you got that info from. took my car to vic roads yesterday with this issue and the vehicle inspector had to phone up a few people to see if it was ok. he came back and said we will accept a notice from your engineer saying that it is safe but you dont need a full engineers cert. even with that document how can you prove the structual integrity of the vehicle hasnt been altered? you would have to test crash you car to prove it. My engineer is welding a plate around the hole to strenghthen it so that he can sign it off knowing that it is as strong if not stronger than it was before i cut the hole. therefore the structual integrity hasnt been changed. also it depends if you have airbags or not. if you cut a hole and have a crash and the air bag fails, what do you do then? they obviously did extensive testing on the car when designing it crashing it into walls and stuff to make sure the air bag would go off in such circumstances. it might not be part of the chassis but its still in the crumple zone. i mean hey if you can use that document to get out of a canary, great. but chances are the cops arnt gonna know if the structual integrity has changed and will refer you to an expert (engineer) to find out. hope it works for you guys but i can drive a little easier having actual documentation for my specific car.

account number is ok just the account name
-
"Account name" must be letters, numbers, spaces, apostrophes or hyphens only. (Error Message No. 200121) "Account number" must be letters or numbers only. No spaces or hyphens. (Error Message No. 200106) this is what i get when i put in 'Heather Lee/Mullane' as the account name. should i take out the slash? whats the account name meant to be?

ok ive answered my own question correctly vic roads have a tyre calculator. you can have 2 sizes up one inch wider and 15mm in either direction for the profile. ie: 225/50/16 (placard figure)so can have 35 profile to 65. dont need exhaust either. put my 18s back on, now 100mm. because im not getting a full engineers cert he doesnt have to test my dbs. recomend volk engineering in heidelburg. John Volkov nice guy very helpful and not trying to rip me off. hes happy to do me a letter with his company letter head. what a champ!
-
yeah was thinkin that my 18s are bald though.

hi guys ive managed to get out of an engineers certificate. vic roads are happy with a letter head from an engineer saying that my car is ok. only problem now is even with my stock suspension my car is still too low. my mechanic cant raise it because its as high as it will go. does anyone have a stock exhaust for a 33? or does anyone know if a stock 32 exhaust will bolt up? my mechanic has a stock 32 one. also when you have been canaried have they check the width of your rims and knocked you back? ive got 265/35/18 from what i under stand you can go two sizes in height and one inch in width? is this correct? meaning i would be maxed out at 250/35/18? reason i ask is if i put my 18s back on i might be 100mm and wont need an exhaust
-
great idea i might just do that. wait and see how much im over first.
-
check paul r33s home page hes got the pin outs
-
yeah cannons are definatly louder.

sealed batteries have a little hose coming off the battery which takes any fumes out of the car via a little gromet near the battery. i bought one from battery world 440cca for $115 fitted havent had a problem since.
-
hey guys did a search but cant find many actual answers with proven results. everyone says 'yes my exhaust is quiet' but havent actually had it tested. just got off the phone to a tester who claimed that no 3" system will be under 90db. can anyone prove him wrong? ive got a 3" split dump to a wide body hiflo cat, 3" cat back system with a hotdog muffler and jazma oval muffler. he claims it will be over 100db. what have you guys got.
-
didnt actually get canary for exhaust. but i have to get my car engineered due to the whole i cut out for my hybrid intercooler kit. the engineer must now do the whole car not just the engine bay. just want to get it tested before the engineer does it. want to have it all micky mouse so i only have to take it to him once. he will perform the test himself i just want to make sure its gonna pass
