This may vary from state to state, but in Vic , if the BMW was shunted into the vehicle in front, repsonsibility falls on the shoulders of the person who did the shunting, not the innocent person who got stuck in the middle because someone wasn't driving to suit the conditions. ...but certainly get legal advice. It's understandable that panels needed repairing, but air con? Sounds a bit dodgy.

Some interesting (but concerning) points Roy, let me address a few. There's a name for that, it's called road rage. Numbers of Police aren't relative to the head(s) of population. If the authorities had enough resources, there wouldn't be so many dangerous drivers (and dangerous vehicles) on the road. (I say "Police", because I've never seen VicRoads targeting passenger vehicles, only trucks.) EG: In Victoria you can drive a 40 year old car which hasn't had a roadworthy since it came out of the showroom, even if it's held together solely by rust. 90% of driving skill is "worrying about what other people are doing".It's the people who don't worry about what other people are doing who are a constant danger to those around them. Feel free to be pissed off, I know I am.The lack of attention to the task at hand which most drivers display is frustratingly ridiculous, and plain dangerous. blackrex and saff have given perfect examples of the types of actions I'm refering to. The law says we are not allowed to carry weapons to defend ourselves. A camera is not a weapon, it is a tool. I'm sure there would be a lot of people who have been involved in collisions/incidents who wish they had a camera (even a stills camera) on hand, so that they were able to take photos of circumstances/surroundings/signs/road conditions/vehicle damage etc at the time of the event. If someone is an innocent victim, should they be denied the right to prove their innocence?

Absolutely untrue. Any illegal/dangerous activies caught on video can be forwarded to the relevant authorities, and the offenders can be charged. Disgruntled truck drivers have been doing it recently, with great results.

Time for this weeks local news update State: According to Brett Ramsey from IPL, DRIVA are working on bringing ANDRA championship drag racing back to Victoria. Don't get your hopes up, these things take a lot of time, money, research and effort. SE: 4WD track to be opened at Sandown. ...and I might as well add in another interesting parking effort.

good to see you're finally catching on. Springvale police work the area, as do Dandenong. Cheltenham Police don't come anywhere near here, it's a different district. They don't even operate on the same frequency (or at least they didn't pre-digital) so they wouldn't be able to respond to any jobs in the area even if they wanted to. anyhoo, I didn't make it to the car wash, I was watching Ice Age 2.. I washed the car this morning instead.

Patience grasshopper! No need to get tetchy because it's been 20 minutes and nobody has replied! Try this thread: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...showtopic=16255 and this one http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...showtopic=11334

I think that people are getting way too touchy when it comes to articles in regards to "hooning" etc. As I stated in the first post, for some time I've been thinking about starting a thread where I can stick all the graphic images in my local paper that I'm faced with on a weekly basis, which are caused by speeding (or similar). I don't see a problem with attempting to create awareness. Most of the fatalities (and accidents causing serious injury) which occur in this area are swept under the blanket, and not reported in general news. Quite honestly, I'd rather offend a handful of people if it means that one or two more people realise how fragile human life is, and how easilly it can be taken away while driving a vehicle. If fatal mva's are brushed under the carpet, isn't that detracting from the persons life? Families and friends of deceased/disfigured accident victims should take solace in the fact that if someone can learn from someone else's mistakes, the deaths/injuries that their friends/relatives have suffered can help educate others on the dangers, and maybe save them from suffering the same fate. but moving on... Further to 123456's comments, burnouts are just as bad as speeding. When tyres heat up, they heat up the asphalt underneath them. When asphalt gets hot, it gets tacky, and when there's a tyre spinning on top of hot asphalt, it has a tendancy to remove layers from the road surface. This in turn makes the road surface unsafe for all road users. Apart from the damage caused to the roads, when a large amount of smoke is seen coming from industrial areas, people call the firies. I'm sure you wouldn't be impressed if your house burned down because there was no appliance available to attend because they're all off in the middle of woop woop responding to a "sighting of smoke" call out.

I concur. The last 2 "proper" roadworthies that I have been supplied with were totally dodgy. One of them even wrote the wrong year on the rwc. It certainly made things interesting when I took the paperwork in to get the vehicle registered.

No, it's not for Cheltenham, the first post states that it's Keysborough.

123456 I feel your frustration, believe me, I do. I'm at the point now where I'm seriously considering a dash mounted camera to capture the dangerous antics of idiots that I face every time I'm out on the road, if only to protect myself. On Tuesday I witnessed someone mount the kerb and drive along the footpath between the nature strip and fences for a few hundred metres (almost hitting a school kid using the footpath) because they couldn't wait 20 seconds for the traffic to move so that they could get into their driveway. I see things like this every time I get in the car, and I can put money on the fact that if I were to try something so stupid, I'd get done for it. I mentioned this in another thread today, but i'll say it again, It's just unfortunate that in the South East, there is so much "general" crime, that Police don't get left with time for getting out on the roads and enforcing basic traffic law.
-
123456 why would you be pissed at the government? They aren't the ones forcing people to drive like maniacs. Casey has the highest road toll in Victoria. It's about time that people started being held accountable for their actions.

Just some car articles from the local paper (Leader), and other local automotive news that may be of general interest. Hoons: Interesting parking technique:

I've lived locally for about the same amount of time, I've only been pulled over once while coming through the junction for an RBT. There's too much crime around here for police to waste their time with people in cars 10:00pm? The wagon needs a wash, if I'm still awake I might come and say Hi. ..and I believe it's called "Parkwash".. not car lovers
-
Go do it somewhere else then. ..and I guess you can have a warn for your efforts, threats are not permitted here.
-
If your exhaust is too loud, then you did something wrong. Stop breaking laws/regulations and they'll leave you alone. Honestly, stop whinging.
-
That probably won't be much of a problem, I don't think the Cheltenham police would travel to Keysborough just for kicks.
-
It wouldn't suprise me if they did... It almost seems like they don't want people to donate blood. The list of things that stops people from donating is endless... I've never been able to donate because I've always fallen into one or more of the deferral categories. Some of the deferrals are in place to benefit the health of donors, but others just seem ridiculous.
-
They don't make you do it standing up... if you faint you'll be fine.
-
That may stop the noise, but wouldn't it encourage more slipping? Soap acts as a lubricant, especially when moisture is added. If you want to be that dodgy, you'd be better off pouring coke on the belts.
-
I'd like to know how you think he could tell that you have family members in the force just by looking at your license?
-
Try McDonald Bros. Racing You should probably have a read of this too. http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/vrpdf/rdsafe/VSI%2028.pdf

there appears to be a sticky thread up the top of this section in regards to stickers

When you buy a car "as is", you sign paperwork to that effect. If you sign the paperwork, and agree to their terms without reading what you sign, it's not their fault, in fact, that's what they're hoping people will do. Even brand new cars straight out of the showroom have problems with them. The first car I purchased privately blew a head gasket 3 days after I got it. I certainly wouldn't be in a hurry to buy privately again. I've since purchased 2 vehicles from 2 different dealers, and both were happy to accomodate my requests to have certain things fixed/changed prior to me taking delivery of the vehicle. If I asked for these things to be fixed, then picked the car up without checking that it had been done, who's fault would it be? A certain amount of responsibility falls on the buyer. If you don't know what you're buying, get an independent inspection.
