The same way, that you cannot tell people a rotary has only two combustion chambers when the other faces of a rotor are carrying out combustion processes. The interesting thing is that you say I, and so many others are using examples of the rotary engine and applying the operating conditions af a piston engine. I say the problem with this is you are just as guilty of applying piston principles as you claim we are. Your argument as to the two combustion chambers is based on the idea of a piston engine, whereby a combustion chamber is defined by a specific, unchanging physical location. This is, by your own logic, faulty thinking when applied to a rotary engine. Any face of a rotor not engaged in the process of ignition is still engaged in a part of the combustion cycle. Ignition is not combustion. It is a part of the cycle. The principle is that there are virtual cylinders which can exist in different states at any given time. This is hard to grasp as it somewhat goes against our basic human understanding of physics, that an object can effectively be something else at any one given time. You are absolutely right about the 1 litre 2 stroke vs a 1 litre 4 stroke. They are not evenly matched, however here you are muddying the argument into racing classes not displacement. On the matter of displacement a 1 litre 4 stroke and a 1 litre 2 stroke have IDENTICAL displacement. For racing 2 strokes are great, as pollution, noise, oil burning and a lack of life expectancy are not issues for motors that see regular rebuilds. 2 strokes, are not particularly practical as an every day use motor, as these reliablitiy factors would not be tolerated in a street car for the masses. Now for the above paragraph, substitute the word 2 stroke for rotary and suddenly the comparisons between a rotary and a 2 stroke become far clearer. A rotary may be somewhat more reliable than a 2 stroke motor, however suffers from an inherently ineffecient design. Great Thread.

Wow, epic thread, just got through the whole thing. Tech info is awesome, it should be cleaned and stickied. On a side note I'm stoked to find out that because my rb25 is only going through the ignition phase of combustion two cylinders at a time, I can tell everyone a drive a .833 Litre motor. Makes a rotary look kinda p!ssweak doesn't it? From what i gather from reading so much of the excellent information and working out my own opinion, classes should work like this. 13b twin rotor (with 6 combustion faces in total) has an effective capacity of 3.9 litres. The same way a 6 cylinder piston motor (2 or 4 stroke) with an individual cylinder displacement of 654cc would displace 3.9 litres total. I can't believe that is even up for debate. Give the thing a 20% bonus for rubbish efficiency and the figure is still above 3 litres. Rotaries are popular for motor racing as they have a massive class advantage. Saying this, if you don't get at least a half wood when you hear a triple or quad rotor on song (peaking at a glorious 3,000 to 3,666.67) RPM, you probably don't have a heart.

Actually, this particular drop tank on the R33 was just for looks, it was imitating a particular style. I would imagine it's pretty rare for anyone on the street to have an actual functional one. You're right though, anyone who wants their car to follow a style or trend is a total "jerkoff". What about jerkoffs in GTR's with subtle nismo stripes, like the racecars have? What jerkoffs. S14 drivers who put JDM silvia badges on their cars? Jerkoff. People who modify cars at all? You see where I'm going with this..... syfon - Do you have any pics of how it mounted? would be curious to know how this was done. Might have to run off and get one, then slap commodore badges on my car. Because im a jerkoff. cheers, Jesse

Fair enough! That's quite a wise choice i think, and i do know what you mean about noisy pooboxes that have no exhausts. Your comment about the Toranas (Toranii?) is interesting, as I kinda hope that skylines start to head down this path, as in well cared for, mild body mods etc. Not riced out thrashboxes. Hence my kinda liking the drop tank look i guess. My other daily is a 2005 XR6 ute, it's being sold as it is nowhere near as well built, or nice to drive as a 14 year old R33. Scary. 2 door LJ with an rb30 would be tonnes of win. So would 14" gold hundred spokes and juice on your Fairlane! Apologies for OT ramblings. Jesse

Haha, by and large i do speak for myself. I'd be willing to bet that your "made to flow" exhaust is still substantially louder than a stock one. Your car probably wooshes too from induction noise, that's what I meant by what I said. My point was that to a lot of people, we're all bogans. Yes, you too W0rp3d. Drop tank rules. Peace.
-
I find it funny the way everyone bags out commodores/toranas etc. as "beer swilling bogan mobiles". It's not as if our mid 90's, wooshing, ridiculously loud skylines are the epitome of a classy, subtle car.

Should I Amp My Speakers? Full Alpine System.
JayTay replied to Nick.'s topic in Car Audio & Electrical
Step 1. Pull out rear speakers Step 2. Dynamat, you don't need loads of it to make a huge difference Step 3. Amp front splits Rear speakers are almost always a waste of money, and stuff up the imaging of your front stage, unless you really enjoy sitting in the back of your car whilst driving, ditch the speakers and leave the holes empty. You will find you have heaps more bass in the cabin from the subbass in the boot having an unimpeded path to you. cheers, Jesse -
Dunno if it 100% suits the style of that particular R33, but that tank is sick. With more of a "old school" modification approach, ie. smaller wheels with big offsets, fairly stock body, etc. that would look awesome.

Sweet deal man! R33s are cheap as chups in NZ, i thought they were pretty liberal with mods though? Kind of a "land that time forgot" deal? Haha, I totally get the 25det sound thing, just got my 33 back on the road and after driving around my xr6 ute for a while, well, I'm glad to be back in the line. cheers, Jesse

That offset on your evo is sick, should totally stick with that theme! 18X9 +30 up front and 18X9.5 +25 rear or thereabouts should get a similar look, and I'm pretty sure wouldnt scrub on stock guards so long as you run sensible tyre sizing, like 235/40 F and 245/40R. Saying that, while i appreciate the appeal in staying legal, make sure you check the rules in your own state, as they vary as to what you can do with adding width to wheels and increasing track/reducing offset. I know in WA you cannot go wider than the widest rim specified on the tyre placard if said rim is 8" or greater wide. So if you have to deal with anything like that, try to get a tyre placard that lists the width on GTR's, as this will allow 9" wide, or if your state allows +1 width sizing, you can go up to 10" legally. cheers, Jesse. btw. Now your car(s) part of your sig makes sense, if the part suggesting the EVO is AMS tuned, 2.3L stroked and rocking a gt35r, well, I don't know how in hell an r33 satisfies you!
-
Fronts might be a bitch even with the guards, but the rears i think sneak into stock guards with some mild stretch and camber.
-
Saying "I want the best offset, but dont want camber/rolling/lipping", is a bit like saying "I want dirty slappers but don't want the clap" I reckon halve your offsets and add an inch of width front and back. However, if you wanna be soft about it and stay all legal and that, i'd go 17/18 X 9 +30 all round (R33 GTR and R34 GTR wheel sizing respectively) I'd also suggest that a 40 profile on a 17 inch rim in the rear will be too low, better to stick to a 45. cheers, Jesse

Hey all, was wondering if the Bride or any other manufacturer low seat rails are useable with OEM seats, i.e. r33 gtst seats or GTR seats, as my R33 has a sunroof and being 6' tall my head tends to rub on the roof a bit. cheers, Jesse
-
Not BBS LM, the recess for the wheel nuts is too curved, I'm almost certain they are HRE c90's. Super hot, Super expensive, generally seen on modded fazzas or bentleys. Cheers, Jesse EDIT: btw, regardless of size that fitment and offset is freakin' horn. SECOND EDIT: $9000 a set AUD, NO tyres. suck on that one 4-6k bbs lms.....

You have PM dude! -
I get that, personally though, if i wanted to have fun, i'd have a v6 commo tow car to take well set up 32GTR to the track for a bit of fun, good track cars can be had for nothing from jap. also, rev210, station wagons>utes all day long, ultimate sleeper there man.

I would have thought that the kind of person who puts their family of 5 into the car then goes and does 13 sec. quarters would be the exact type of person to keep out of high performance cars.
-
I'm in fairly desperate need of an rb25 auto box, must be in good condition, I'm located in perth so shipping will be needed most likely, PM or post if you can hook a brother up! cheers.

Chances are your coilpacks are shagged, when i got my 33 they were stuffed and flooring it through tunnels sounded like a machine gun, i had the exact same problems though, loss of power, shotgun bangs etc, tape up your coilpacks as per the DIY in the tutorials section or do it properly and buy splitfires. Changing the plug gap will only mask the problem.
