i had a closer look at the problem coil... one of the little metal terminal things was bent!
ill whack it back in now and give it a go.. hopefully that was the problem
time to hit my mate over the head for forcing something incorrectly if this is the problem
-
It seems like it is running on 5 cyl.
I took off the cover, and tested the plugs one by one. The coil closest to the windscreen appeared to make no change in the engine sound. I replaced it with the coil at the front of the car and the same thing happened to that cyl but not the previous one.
SO i guess the coil is bollocksed? What do i do now, just get a coil to replace it? I dont want to buy a whole set of splitfires
-
ill give that a go after uni today in the arvo
so i basically have to do the following:
remove the pipes that are in the way
undo and remove the black cover
re-connect all the pipes
start car
disconnect 1 coil at a time, listening for a change in engine sound
if i find one that makes no change in engine sound, stop the car, swap it with another coil and see if the new cylinder is failing?

i checked for exhaust leaks with soapy water on the flanges under the car, everything seems airtight. guess im just gonna have to savea couple pay checks and take it somewhere good, im not really the mechanic-type as much as i'd like to be.
-
you can tell it sounds different on idle, so it isnt just driving (even though its more pronounced when driving/reving)
-
check for leaks,
mine had a leak between the engine and exhaust manifold cause the manifold bent. Sounded like a v8 haha, and shook etc.
And also ya said it ran sweet and only thing that you have done recently is exhaust.
So check around ya exhaust manifold, turbo, intercooler pipes, dump exhaust etc.
Make sure all bolts are tight and havent come loose.
I also had a fun time recently my plenum warped, so i know how it runs when theres a leak there too haha. #$%$#
If thats the case i dont think i can check anything out myself.
Would i be doing any damage if i drove it to a workshop?
One last thing, when we took the plugs out they were black as a motherbollockser, im using ngk iridiums. Carefully cleaned them before regapping to .8 and putting them back in. Car still pops though.
-
everything should be plugged in properly, the coilpacks looked fine too (no cracks etc)
we also didnt touch the coils/plugs until after the problem started, is it just a oincidence that it may have decided to shit itself then?

I got my r33 in june of last year, thought it was working sweet after getting it checked by a emchanic before buying it. Seems like it was the biggets mistake of my life because it just doesnt run properly and everything i do ends up solving one problem but creating another. Nothing has gone my way with this car i must be cursed or something.
For reference the car is a 1996 s2 r33 gtst. Only mods are apexi pod and just recently a trust pe2 catback.
Yesterday a mate and I adjusted 2 exhaust hangers to get the exhaust sitting in a better position since the lip on the mid muffler was hitting the tailshaft (not often at all, but often enough to warrant the adjustment).
Anyway after doing that we took it for a test drive and it was fine, i got back to my house and i started to hear a very high pitched whine, kinda quiet but noticeable. The car then started running "lumpy". For lack of a better term, ill just say it kinda sounds like a rexy when i rev it a little. Not good at all. The car shakes, feels and sounds really lumpy.
We then checked the plugs (which are like 4-5months old), regapped them to 0.8 from the previous 1.1mm because it was popping alot but nothing changed. Still sounds rough.
I REALLY wanted to do everything myself or with a mate to save money cant afford a good workshop right now. However if i or anyone else cant work it out i may just have to save a little and get it checked out.
Any ideas?

oh and mate if you're insured and he's not, it's easiest to get your insurance company to wave your excess, fix your car and then sue him for the insurance money, that's what I ended up doing when the woman that hit me wouldn't front up to it and was uninsured. Within a week of starting that process my car was in the workshop being repaired and 5 days after that I had it back.
My passenger door was bent right in and the whole side of the car looked like someone had used an angle grinder on it, didn't cost me a thing
Cost the bitch like $4300 I think it was.

Goodluck with that drdoof thats a really terrible situation to bein. Hope everything works out ok

is the $700 bov really necessary? id figure a clutch would be better allocation of funds assuming its manual i guess. and if it isnt manual i probably wouldnt spend money on a bov either

bump still for sale

What's legal and what isnt regarding gauge mounting?
i'll probably buy a boost gauge soon, dont think id get any others for now but i was just wondering, what was allowed and what wasnt as far as mounting a gauge goes.

i have the same problem, except i drive a gtst witha catback exhaust. My next mod upgrade is the front pipe and cat, i was probably going to go with a http://bosimporting.com.au/index.php?page=...t&Itemid=27 and the batmbl split dump. Should i go with that cat or get soemthing more expensive? Street use only.

Promotion was SHIT for this, barely anyone knew tickets were being released this morning. Got tix for the second show, hope its ok.

Here is mine, nice and clean again (rain makes it look a bit dirty)
Skirts are fixed and back on - finally - only took me 2 years to get around to doing.
Any idea what side skirts I have? They are different to the stock ones I have seen as these wrap around underneath where the door closes.
gtr style rear pods right? i think i might get some as an alternative to changing the whole rear bar

you need to fit it all up then tighten the bolts or else it wont fit up str8, imagine a bit out at the cat (both F & R bolts) then a bit more out at the centre join and you are gonna be prety close to anything. loosen the lot off then nip it enough to move it into position then tighten.
i 100% know it is in the positioning not the exhuast..... i have never had one not fit and we have sold container loads ....
Hmm, now that you mention it join in the middle section of the exhaust didnt have circle holes for the bolts they were oval. I had a closer look at the flange and it might be 1 or 1.5mm out. The cat section looked ok, but then again they were circle holes if i remember corectly so i doubt it wouldve been out any.
Will put the car on ramps again tomorrow, loosen the bolts and try to align it differently. Also got a couple of new hanger mounts to try out.

only unbolted one of the rubber hangers, which happens to be the one you can see in the pic. The other ones didnt unbolt, but we took them off to get everything off the stock muffler easier. Im pretty sure we idnt mix them up, but i dunno. That hanger pictured is a little stretched, i might just try replace them all with new universal rubbers. Otherwise if that doesnt work, its bending time.
other than that tho, the exhaust sounds nice

couple of the rubber hangers are a little saggy too, ill just buy some new stiffer ones tomorrow or something
