std batteries are crap as they come stock don't seem to last logn and won;t crank the engine over for too long. yeah go to repco or autobarn and get a decent high capacity one.. make sure you get the right size terminals as well.

I would say customs will be in on it with FORS etc.. when they do the inspection at the docks.. too heavily modified not allowed to pick up until returned to stock etc or refused entry. I know if FORS suspect a car to be damaged they can ask for photos to be taken before import approval is granted. they may do the same if they suspect a car is modified. also they may get in with local rego authorities I know some vic roads branches have been taking photos of cars with big turbos etc when they are presented for registration. there will not be back doors for anyone after spending shitloads to get RAWs for spending 60 grand up and there will be a total of maybe 6 Australia wide to start off with I doubt anyine will take shortcuts and risk losing this. Plus the audit trail is very tight, you have to have documented receipts for everything and I mean everything for original parts used etc... only way I can see is get parts removed in japan and shipped separately. if the compliancer has been seen to have any inolvement in the fitment of those parts then I would say they will be dead meat. of course once car has been complianced and regoed nothing to stop you from getting the parts you have shipped in from japan fitted. there will however be the cost of the removal of the parts in japan and the labour to fit them here again.. Maybe in Japan as someone else said more parts will be removed and sold off before the car gets to auction and we will no longer see so many modified cars come up for auction.. used to see them all the time seem to be rarer and rarer lately can't remember last time saw a 180sx or GTR with a big turbo etc. all in it farks everything for the peformance enthusiast. looks like the gov wants us all to drive slow boring shitboxes

i think it will for sure but going to be interesting to see what happens in Japan.. Don't forget that NZ changed the laws to allow only vehicles after 96 I think. I with ex static think there will be a bigger market for 2nd hand and new parts and also more people modding cars. as long as the epa and cops don;t get us first. we all should be driving white avalons no doubt. sounds like george orwells 1984. Dunno how it will affect the price of 2nd hand modified vehicles.

from mr risbey's list If you want to import a modified vehicle, the next 2 1/2 months (to the end of Feb 2003) are your last chance. Best reports at this stage are that under the new import scheme, vehicles will have to be COMPLETELY stock standard when they are complied. This is something that was anticipated to some extent, however the Govt. are taking a very strict stance and are stating that vehicles with any modified parts will have to have these removed (with evidence of their destruction supplied on request) and genuine manufacturers items fitted. For example, a Skyline with an expensive APEXi exhaust, BOV and airpod would have these removed during compliance, the perfectly good parts would have to be destroyed, destruction certificates provided, and a genuine Nissan airbox, exhaust and catalytic convertor fitted to get it through compliance. Indications are that substitute aftermarket items that replace manufacturers parts will not be acceptable. There may be an exception made for aftermarket wheels providing they are not too much larger than the factory size, but currently this seems to be the only concession. Obviously, under this regime, importing a vehicle with any significant level of modifications will not be cost effective. This would appear to be a very intentional result of the new import scheme. No one knows how this will actually work as time goes on, perhaps the rules will relax somewhat to make the scheme more workable but this appears doubtful. What we do know is that the Govt. is continuing to do their very best to restrict the viability of vehicles to be imported while pretending they are providing a great new scheme targeted towards enthusiasts. This allows the number of imports to be minimised by stealth while avoiding a concerted public outcry which would probably have some positive impact on the direction of the scheme. If anyone complains about the restrictions of the new import scheme, the changes can always be blamed on getting rid of "unsavoury industry elements in the old scheme", or "safety concerns of imported vehicles", or "improving the . Things are tightening up right now with compliance workshops becoming nervous to comply modified vehicles even under the old import scheme, so you'd best hurry if you want to import a modified vehicle and save as much as $20,000 to $30,000 over making the changes here in Australia.

If your happy with car and its condition etc wuld be worth it to convert guy on here Googz got his Series 2 done by Hills Motorsport in Sydney for 2 grand inc all parts and labour which was a bargain plus $600 for a HD clutch. The gearbox is worth anywhere from 900-1200 alone.. Not a fun job and harder on the R33 than the R32 b/c you have to drill the holes for the clutch cylinder even though they are pressed already. also putting the pedal box in is not a fun job steering column has to be dropped or come out some of the bolts are a bitch to get to... lots of fun if you like spending time upside down in cramped positions hehehe. gearbox and clutch part is pretty straightforward.. and I think you need the manual tailshaft also.. also need a good auto elec to get rid of the inhibitor switch for the auto, wire the reverse lights up and also do the speedo. Maybe also want to get a manual dash to get rid of the auto shift indicator... so yeah bit of work involved Googz got a very cheap price, but 6 grand is a joke I'd estimate the 3 - 3,500 mark as reasonable including all parts and labour could be done in 2-3 days... ICE and another guy did most of the work on the one I did so they should be fine with it.. Guy on here Skyline33 - Ahmed can get you all the parts you need, he has saved my life many times offers reasonable prices and will deliver plus he is a very honest guy... Free PLUG hehehhehe... Some of the clutch bits and pieces etc can be abit hard to find. easiest is to find someone wrecking a manual half cut etc. Unfortunately autos go much cheaper in Japan due to being less popular but the much cheaper price can make them attractive for conversions as often advertised by Geoff Risbey even for R34 GTT's 180sx's etc. Lot of cars in Japan that come up for auctions have already been done. Saw a Supra RZ TT auto go very cheap the other day... hope that helps... if you like your line the convert it heheheh.
