  1. I went to Gatebil last year and it was the craziest loosest car event I had ever been too. The cars there were just insanely fast, I mean 1000hp Audis wheel spinning at over 200kph up the main straight was just mind blowing to watch. This year we actually brought my clothing brand over to sell tee shirts. I am a graphic designer and for years I have been designing logos and designs for skateboard companies. I always wanted to start a brand for car guys like me, who love JDM and drift culture but want a designs that are not tacky or lame. So I started 101 Squadron Last year I got to meet the owners of Gatebil and they asked to bring my brand over in 2014. I am lucky enough to have a fiancee from Norway so it made things a little easier but we still had no time at all to organise our display. We had not been in Norway for 24 hours before we drove from Tonsberg to Rudskogen racetrack, meet with the owner of Gatebil and were shown where we would have our stand. All we had was a box of shirts and stickers and grandmas old party tent and table!! Our setup looked very dodgy compared to Drift Monkeys or Speedhunters and more resembled something you would see on the streets of bali, but I think that was the charm of it. We had people from all over the world coming up and having a chat and were surprised that an Aussie traveled so far with this many tee shirts!! People were loving the designs and we sold out of most of the tees in the first day! These 2 guys came and bought tees from me and later I saw them signing autographs. Turns out they are big Norwegian movie stars and are staring in the new Norwegian car movie "Burning". Now for the cars... Team Drift Monkey bought out Formula D driver Ken Gushi and Noriyayo's Alexi Smith. 2JZ's.... 2JZ's everywhere. Seriously if you are looking for one in Aus and cant find one its probably because they are all in Europe. As a massive JZX fan to see this on the first day made me cry... The crowd this year was massive, apparently over 60,000 people You want crazy Gatebil engine conversions? How about a V8 with a monster turbo stuck in a Mitsubishi Evo? The variety of cars at Gatebil is what makes it so amazing! Tried to find this WRX in the pits but could never see it... I doubt he was running the old EJ20 though... One of my fav cars was this Volvo 740 driven by Steffen Tveite. Basically its a Toyota Supra with a Volvo brick body but its different and looks so rad sideways! Some of the engines there were just amazing... Super big turbos seem to be the flavour in northern Europe.
  2. Just a quick update. The R32 has been packed away in my garage for the next few months as I will be away in Norway with my Fiancee visiting her family. Oh an I will be going to a little festival known as Gatebil..... Full writeup coming soon.
  3. Running 13 psi. It drops back to about 10 at high revs, I guess this cause of the stock turbo, you do notice it a bit and really have to shift earlier to get solid power.
  4. Well she is back on the streets.... Funny how a car can change your mood so much... When there is problems with the 32 I get so bummed out and then my mind gets flooded with how I am going to fix it and what my next step is. I even ignore the missus and get in trouble for not listening cause I am so consumed with the bloody car!! Very dangerous territory there! But then on the other hand when it all goes to plan and I actually manage to fix something or install part correctly I am on top of the world. After finally managing to get all the intercooler sorted and then start the car and drive it with no problems I was so stoked and have been this whole week! Drove the car to Brisbane today from the Sunshine coast. Feels a bit better but it has been so long since I drove it last I am unsure. Seems to come on boost easier and a lot stronger. The lag is not as noticeable but it is still there and you can get stuck in it. The cross over pipe is a lot cooler than the old one that crossed over the radiator fan, I could not even touch the old one after a drive it was so hot. Will try and take it for a longer drive tomorrow and keep an eye on the boost gauge to see what its doing but overall power seems the same and still seems to really drop off at high revs. New K-mak aero GTR front bar fitted too Still needs a little bit of fitment and paint... More pictures to come
  5. So trying to sort this f**k!ng intercooler out. Seriously I thought buying Plazmaman it would be an easy fit and perfectly engineered..... How wrong I was. All the piping lines up and bolts ok except for these 2.... That is the distance between the crossover pipe and the pipe coming up from under the drivers side chassis rail. I emailed them and showed them this image and asked what I could do or maybe I had done it wrong and they told me to move it closer to the radiator hose. It already is maybe 20mm away from the hose, I could make it touch the radiator hose and it still wont be close enough. Usually when these things happen its because I have not done it right but seriously there is no way this will fit without touching anything or get close enough to fit the hose over the 2. My only option is to have the 2 pipes extended. So now the car is back to the garage again until I can sort this mess out, thinking I will take it to my welder tomorrow.
  6. A picture taken while out at the Circuit and Coffee day a few weekends ago. Kit does not look so bad from this angle IMO... My face shows the sadness after being beaten by the golf...
  7. Thanks mate! Will check out your thread and hopefully get some inspiration and find out what I am in for if I go down the 25 path. In regards to the kit I am still unsure.. I see so many with the GTR look I am getting a little over it and kind of like that mine is different. Its really the front bar I dont like. Just bought a GTR front bar so will throw that on after the new cooler goes on and see how it looks. If anything the kit just annoys me when trying to get the jack or lift underneath it... seriously its a real pain in the arse!! How the garage looks now, GTR bar sitting on the rims. Please note how small my garage is...
  8. Downshift Circuit and Coffee update... Well first thing i can say is... FU%K SOME CARS ARE FAST!!!! I mean there was an Evo wheel spinning all 4 wheels at over 100kph!! I honestly got chopped by 95% of the cars out there!! I had to pull over and check that everything was ok with the car!! It felt as "fast" as always but I was just surprised at the cars that were pulling away from me. I raced my friends new VW GTI Turbo golf and he was pulling from me in 3rd gear, this was the biggest surprise, I thought for sure I would have him! I also raced my friends Supercharged R8 Holden ute.. no surprises for what happened there. There was some seriously quick cars on the day but it was a lot of fun. Just such a huge mix of cars from R35 GTRs, Porches, C63s, V8s, 86s and a bunch of Evos. Had the gopro on the whole time so will edit that up and upload it too. Got me seriously thinking about an upgrade... I think the ol RB20 is a bit tired, I mean there are Exhaust manifold studs missing and the turbo is not the healthiest not to mention all the oil leaks. Very much considering an RB25DET Neo swap now.... Just so I can beat my mates GTI Will keep my eye out for any that pop up in Brisbane. Picture taken from the R8 before the chopping begun...
  9. Been so busy with the car and work over the past few weeks have not had a chance to update on here. Huge weekend for the car with another Gympie skidpan day on Saturday and then a Downshift circuit and coffee meet at Queensland raceway on Sunday! It was a mad rush to get the car ready for the weekend though. I really wanted to get both the intercooler and the brakes all done before the weekend but its a little hard to do it all myself plus my full time job. I did manage to get the brakes all sorted on Friday night. Super stoked as I did it all myself but also a little nervous... A problem with the brakes is not something I really want, especially as I would be doing well over 180kph at Qld raceway on Sunday.. So the front has been upgraded to rebuilt R33 GTST Calipers with QFM pads and DBA 4000 Series Clubspec T3 Slotted Brake Rotors Rear still has standard calipers with QFM pads and DBA 4000 Series Clubspec T3 Slotted Brake Rotors. Gktech braided lines all round. Protex Super Dot 4 Brake Fluid Was pretty surprised at how easy it all was. Hardest part was the braided lines that were just way to long and did not have enough attachments to fit them back in the standard brackets. I bought some Falcon rubber grommets that fitted perfectly and made it all look factory. This and bleeding them was the biggest pain. Car pulls up a lot better now, there is still a little softness when you first press the pedal in but the further you get down in the pedal it really starts to bite and gives a lot better feedback. You actually have to be careful as they really start to lockup the wheels if you hit them too hard. Also there is no squeaking anymore, the old brakes were so loud at low speeds. Will try and get some good images of them when the car is in the day light. Car was ok at the skidpan day but my driving was not... I dunno, it just seems to have massive understeer problems and when you do get it into oversteer it is very hard to hold, to much power and the car just spins?? I think I was a little lazy the first few runs and just expected the car to be amazing. You really have to give it 110% for it to perform and really hold it high in the revs. It does need an alignment after removing the Hicas but I doubt that was the problem. I want to take it to someone who can tune the suspension and take a look at the coilovers and maybe adjust them and get some more advice. Can anyone recommend a good suspension dealer in Brisbane of offer any help? Actually was raining on the day which made things interesting.... I have a fair amount of footage from the day, if any of it is it good I will make an edit and upload it.
  10. Hey guys, Trying to put all my brakes together and noticed I need R33 Front brake shims. If anyone on the Sunshine coast or Brisbane has some I will come grab them today or tomorrow. Or where can I buy some off the shelf?
  11. Thanks mate! That diagram is a lot better than the others I found. I think when I go to fit the new intercooler I will remove as much of the lines as I can and just loop the lines back into each other. Maybe later down the track I will fit a better and simpler power steer cooler.
  12. Yeah it is GTS-t, I will buy some power steer lines today and just loop it, sure it cant hurt??
  13. I know this has been covered a million times before but I cant seem to find info on removing the Hicas pump. I recently installed a driftworks Hicas elimination kit. I went for this kit as it completely replaces the Hicas setup and you can get rid of all the weight and crap that comes with it. We removed the whole hicas setup and all the lines but we also removed some sort of pump and had to block of lines off up front. Is this just the Hicas pump? Power steer is all still working fine and there is nothing new weird things about the car. I am wondering if I have done this right and if the fluid is now not getting access to the cooler at the front? Should these lines be looped into each other? When I remove the intercooler and replace it I am going to remove these lines and see where they go to. I obviously still want it to reach the cooler. Anyone able to give me some info on this? Can I expect problems in the future?
  14. New mods just adding to new problems it seems with this build.. As soon as I replace one thing I find several other things I want to fix and replace also.. Anyway I finally installed the Driftworks Hicas elimination kit. I went for this kit as it completely replaces the Hicas setup and you can get rid of all the weight and crap that comes with it. I painted it black so there is no attention from the authorities... Was not the easiest thing to install and I had to get a mechanic friend to help.
  15. Any idea where I can buy hoses like that? Thanks
  16. But isn't yours RB25? On the RB20 it has coolant pipes (I think coolant) coming out right where the piping goes. These ones:
  17. Ok so car is driving amazing right now, comes on boost so much earlier and smoother, no idea why? Maybe the oil change or the new tyres are just playing with me head. Anyway this came in the mail.. Plazmaman Pro series Intercooler kit. Now I think I may have bitten off more than I can chew with this kit.. For people that don't know this kit utilises piping that loops back over the rocker cover and does not go over the radiator fan. After dummying up the cross over pipe I can see that it is going to hit water lines and vacuum lines going into the intake manifold. Does anyone have any info or pics of these kits fitted to an R32? Any advice on what I need to do? I also have to replace the blowoff valve so I bought this Blitz Super sound one from Gumtree, a dude was selling just down the street for me for $20 so I grabbed it. Its missing the bottom attachment and the vacuum pipe but I am going to get it converted to plumb back so will take it to an engineer tomorrow to see what he can do. I will just use the factory plum back piping. Once again any advice is appreciated
  18. Thanks mate, yeah I am considering just getting a GTR front bar now and keeping the rest of the kit on too see how it goes. If I still don't like it I will just get a whole GTR kit. Slideways days are super fun! usually you will spend a few hours doing circles and figure 8 and other skidding. The rest of the day they have hold other driving events like go to whoa, drag races and small track events. Its a lot of fun and somewhere you can really give your car a proper work out in a safe environment. Awesome fun with a bunch of mates and you can have bragging rights if you win. great for me as I live on the Sunshine Coast and its close There is another event coming up in June, its a boost only day so only turbo/supercharged cars. Not sure if its booked out but hit them up on their facebook page. For me its awesome as I live on the Sunshine coast and its close.
  19. Hello boys, I recently purchased a Plazmaman Pro Series Intercooler kit for my Rb20 R32. The one with the piping that sweeps back over the rocker cover. Looking at the piping and dummy fitting it I am a little unsure of how it is going to fit? Looks like I might have to move water and vacuum lines. Plus I will have to get a whole new blow off valve... Does anyone have any images of one fitted up to an R32? Also does anyone have any advice for what I might need? Thanks!!
  20. The garage whore is back on the streets.. Was in the garage a whole lot longer than I expected, front bar just never fitted up properly so needed a bit of modification. All fitted up now and I am a little unsure of what I think? Still needs paint I guess? Once it matches the rest of the car I might like it?? Who knows.. Not sure if I am getting over the body kit totally.. When I finally drove out of the driveway I misjudged it and my back wheel dropped of the curb and the rear bar took the whole impact... The crack is larger than what was in the old front bar. I also went out and got new front tires, when I drove into the driveway at Jax Maroochydore the front bar scrapped soooo bad!! It was so loud and the car almost stopped. All the technicians in the garage looked and most probably laughed. Anyway the car had 215 cheapos on the front and it just looked wack, they just looked stretched out and I think it was the reason the car drove so badly. I got new 225/45R17 Pirelli Cinturato P1s fitted, as the R33 GTR rims are the daily rims I went with something long lasting and comfortable. Of all the mods I have done to the car these new tires made the largest difference, car feels so much more stable, quieter and responsive! Actually makes it much more enjoyable to drive. They also added 8mm of height to the front and when I drove out of Jax the car didn't scrape! Drove into my driveway and it didn't scrape!! Win Win!! A fair few parts still sitting in my garage waiting to be fitted.. Cold air box Brakes Gauges Driftworks Hicas elimination kit. When I get any spare time they will go all be fitted....
  21. Thanks mate, Yeah I am leaning towards Bendix. I have had them on some of my other cars and they were awesome. I don't think I will need anything too serious as the car is really going to be on the street most of its life. Really interested to see if the R33 front brakes make a difference.
  22. Couple of other things I managed to get done. Bought some R33 GTST brakes from Gumtree. I cleaned them up and replaced all the seals. I am planning on fitting these with the following when funds allow.. GKtech braided lines front and rear DBA 4000 T3 Rotors front and rear New pads.. undecided on what brand. Heard a bit of this Remsa brand but heard they produce a lot of dust so not keen on that. Might need to do a bit more research. Also trying to fix up the front bar I also bought from Gumtree. It was in good condition but just had a couple of holes and damage on the drivers side mounting point. I bought a fibreglass repair kit from bunnings and am attempting to fix it all myself. Will get it resprayed with my rear bar hopefully next week. I think this front bar will match the rest of the kit so much better that what is on it now. The current one has way to many vents and looks a little too boy racer for me. This one reminds me of the A-BO-MOON R32s which I love!!
  23. Ok been a hectic weekend with the skyline, wish I could say some cool stuff got done but no... just some regular maintenance. That and I am pretty sure its trying to kill me... I had the whole weekend off work so I decided to get a whole bunch of things done. Replaced the speedo cable, this was not as hard as I thought, can see why they are so fragile though. Had no idea when the last major service was done on it and after the skid pan days it was probably time to change the oil and coolant. While I was at it I decided to fit a oil sandwich plate so I could fit some oil pressure and temp gauges later on. To be honest I was so sceptical on doing this and was ultra scared that I would over tighten it or it would not seal properly. Also was suss on what one to buy but doing a bit of research I got the Mishimoto one as it looked like a much better part than the Ebay crap and when it comes to something that is keeping oil in the engine I am not skimping on price. I also fitted up a Gktech shifter bushing and transmission spring kit. To be honest, it feels no different. But I guess that was just shifting it in the garage, maybe when I get to drive it again I will notice. But I doubt it was worth doing this to my left arm... The bolt that holds the spring for the shifter was super tight, I was underneath the car and when it finally loosened my arm hit the cross member and took a whole bunch of skin with it... I was not going to let it beat me so I ignored it. Also changed the coolant and put a water temp sensor hose attachment in. Still changing the coolant now, I want to do it properly so I am going to let it run again tomorrow and check that there are no air bubbles in the system. The coolant was actually pretty clean when I drained it so this was not really worth it, but I really wanted to fit the water temp gauge. How the car sits now... Still have not driving it properly for 2 weeks now
  24. I have taken it apart and cleaned all the gears and connections and still nothing. Is there a way to test them?
  25. Wanted to buy: R32 fan mode door actuator. Must be in working order! Like this Cash waiting!! Thanks
