Funky - Calder every Wed and Winton every Friday are open and don't need a CAMS. Just a helmet and ankle to wrist clothing. And put it this way - if it wasnt for our 5 cars at Winton there would have been 3 others on the track. A quick HSV (hate to admit it but it was damn fast) some yellow thing and a super quick Ford Focus racing car.

Mate - am running the Dutton from August 6-8 so will be giving those events a miss. But as posted earlier am going to look at Phillip Island later in August. The next NDSOC/MSCA event is the hill climb at Rob Roy which doesnt overly excite and the following is Phillip Island in Sept so going and having a practice weekend with PIARC sounds good to me.

1:41.55 is very impressive mate. But before you get over confident I just looked up the Maserati Day that was held there at the end of June. None of the big guns went (Ben, JFK, Crazy Tony or Tim - top 4 from Sandown last time out) but there were still 3 cars UNDER 1:30 (best was a 1:27) and a 1:41.55 I think would have got you 11th! We've all still got a lot of work to do! LOL

rofl - awesome!

I am thinking the next session which will be good for newbies (or us founding members) for Team Wang Racing could be the PIARC weekend on August 21-22. Saturday is practice and Sunday is full sprint competition. $100 per day. CAMS will be required. And tackling Phillip Island in August will require a damn big Wang as well.

Funky - I need a team wang sig made up! And your the man to do it!
-
Ni - right now is a bad time to find any cheap semi-comps. Normally Trackside or Stuckies have some but there was a fire at the Falken Factory and all of the RE55's are stuck in a container on the docks due to some dispute and so there's nothing around in cheap tyres right now as everyone has grabbed what they can (Ask Scotsman!)

We were staying in Wangaratta - and we were drinking. And there was a van. It was damn funny at the time.

Yeah - seriously we won't know til after Hockenhiem but this was the reply from the Webber FIA press conference on Thursay before the race. Q: What about your future. When can we expect… MW: I know everything and you guys know nothing. That is how it will be today. Q: But, if things changed… MW: Things are not going to change. I mean, everything, erm, yeah, it’s quite interesting at the moment. But, erm, yeah, some decisions have been, er, made, I suppose, so now we are just going to see how it all pans out in the next two races. But who knows. If I was Frank Williams says its going to be worth several million pounds to get up one place in the constructors but its going to cost him $4.2million pounds (6 races by $700K) to get Webber for the rest of the season - is it cost effective? They are now 26 points behind BAR - but I guess even more worrying is that they are now only 9 points infront of McLaren who seem to have got it right finally.
-
Yeah Ni I would have to say that this was my first time on a track without semi-comps and they are the single biggest item to improve lap times. This was quite noticable between Ferni and Scotsman where the cars were basically the same exept for tyres. But having said that it was still a lot of fun with normal street tyres. But for example my rex sounded like a blood hound for 80% of the track! lol

no mate - thats for all you drifters. If you want to go racing - (so going faster that 60km/hr with your tyres smoking) then then that takes big tackle. Remember - unlike things like soccer, footy, golf or tennis - motor racing is a 2 ball sport.

Simon - the Friday Winton date doesnt require a CAMS license. Half the guys that came dont have one and were just getting a taste for it. I reckon they might get one soon however. The Sunday Sprint day does however. To get a CAMS license all you need to do is join a CAMS based club (Like the NDSOC or even shortly SAUVIC) - then apply for a L2S license which is just an anual fee of about $90. No tests or anything. Scotsman can vouch for this now - the Friday Open days are great value for money in terms of what you need and the cost for the amount of track time you get. But the competition of club sprints is awesome.

Just a quick summary on the weekend away up at Winton/Hotham with all the guys from Team Wang Racing. Woke up at a Stupid Time on Friday morning and after meeting up with the various parties we all made our way down to Winton arriving around 11am I think. There was a good mix of cars in the team. Ferni - R33 GTR Scotsman - R33 GTR DentonR33 - R33GTST Scott - MX5 Snowman - MY03 WRX Hatch Roy - ***** Also along for the day was Beck Skylinegeoff HeathGTST Now non of us had ever been to Winton before and only Roy and myself had done track days before. Roy and I were able to show that experience because we were the only two idiots to spin! But other than that there were no problems on the day. No one came down with Sump Baffle Syndrome and the only real issue for the day was that I managed to turn my Potenza's into no-name brand tyres due to the side wall flex! But I had to go pretty hard to try and keep up with these damn GTR's and Roys *****! Seriously though - everyone did really well and we all had pretty good fun. Was great to see Paul Stokells Procar Lambo GTR punting around - shame we weren't allowed on track with it cause I reckon I could have taken it in the corners! lol After the track day on Friday we headed up to Wangarrata for the evening for a pub meal and a snooze before getting up Sat moning and eventually making our way up to Mt Hotham for an afternoon Ski/snowboard session. Both the drive up and drive down were.... interesting. Visability was about 2m! Damn tastey chinese on the way home in Bright though! Sunday Scotsman entered his first ever sprint day through NDSOC/MSCA. Morning it was raining - nice way to experience your first sprint session but Chris was doing awesome. Next session was drying fast and Chris was spot on the pace. He was battling it out for first place with a Corvette, an STi, and some kick ass M3. But given his pace I wont be suprised if he won the day - not bad given it was a basically stock GTR (with sticky rubber) on his first ever track weekend. Great weekend guys and hopefully we can slowly build some more members into Team Wang Racing now that you guys can vouch how easy, safe but most importantly fun it is. But Chris - when me and Roy get our lines back your going down! haha!

Quick answer to your question. Skidpan - no CAMS license required. You wanna do it go see Kev and Scotty at Driver Dynamics - http://www.driverdynamics.com/ Track days - you can go to the open days at Calder (Wed) and Winton (Fridays) without a CAMS license. A whole bunch of us went up to Winton just last Friday infact. If you want to participate in any Sprints etc then you'll need to join a CAMS based club and then get your CAMS license. cheers
-
Ok - after the weekend there is a new sub-sau car club for those of us that went to Winton. All members of Team Wang Racing. We'll chop you super fun happy sliders. Now all we need is for someone to make a cool little sig thing for us.

I'd also just like to quickly say to all the people reading this that are working tomorrow... HAHAHAHAHAHA

Chris - I can be at macca's at 7:00 I basically have to pass by that way anyways. I'm tired just thinking about being in FG at 7:00am! We can add a pull out bed for $10. (we are already doing this in one room on the first night) However on the off chance that James comes too we'll need another room - but thats no big deal. They had heaps of rooms available apparently. I don't have a camera.

Yep Gene was shocking. He's got the seat again at Silverstone but I reckon he needs a podium to be even considered. Did some checking up on Piquet Jr - he's leading the F3 championship. Given Williams history of given young guns from other championships a shot, and the history with Piquet, my $$$ is on him getting the second seat. We've seen them do it sucessfully too I must say with JV and Damon Hill in the past with recruiting young drivers of past champions blood.
-
Well its official - Ralf to Toyota for next year. Jaguar are now saying they are confident that Mark Webber will stay with the team for next year. Funniest thing I've heard in ages. He's now a certainty for Willaims - just a matter of who will be his team mate - and now who will be the team mate of Ralf at Toyota - and who'll be at Jaguar. I wouldnt be suprised to see DC there next year. Whats the deal with Piquet Jr? Anyone know how his season's been going this year? If good I could possibly see him with a seat at Williams given the backing he would bring. He's done some testing for them in the past I know that much.

No one really. So far everyone I have met from SAU have been a real disappointment.
-
Sorry - missing some decimal points. Thats 1min 37s. So its a longer track (time wise at least) than Sandown.
-
Just for reference I'll chuck up a track map for those that havent seen it. Looks like a hella fun track. I also did some quick research on times to aim for. Last years MSCA at Winton - the Skylines Class (Class J) was won with a best time of 137.8. No idea what car he was in. For reference one of the guys that I was similar paced to around Sandown earlier this year ran a 1.41.8. The day was won by a 135.4. Not many cars under 1.45.

Ok - accomodation is booked at the Parkview Motor Inn - which is basically right near the main town of Wangaratta. We have a twin and a tripple booked for Friday night and we move to a 2 bedroom serviced appartment on Sat. Cost is $35 per night for both nights. The exciting news is theres a swimming pool! Anyways... http://www.parkviewmotorinn.com.au/
