Thanks for the tips fellas, yes it would have been great to know this before the three month wait and mega cash outlay... I didn't try fitting them to the rear, I assume they'd fit there though. Hopefully someone with a Stagea or other suitable car is interested. I don't want to have to resort to spacers and/or lipping front guards / using undersize tyres etc

Item: RAYS Engineering Volk Racing GT-C, Spark Silver, Face 2; Set of 4; 18" x 10" +12 Offset - massive dish... Age: Brand new - manufactured July 2008, delivered October 2008 Condition: Brand new, one rim used for test fitting to hub only (no tyres). Price: $3,500 To Fit: (What car) P.C.D. 5x114.3 - Skyline, et al. Location: Sydney (Pickup preferred). Contact: Matt 0404495329 Comments: Ordered these stunning wheels back in July, they are brand new, took three months to manufacture and deliver to Oz. Planned to fit them to my R33 GT-R, but they do not quite clear the front Brembos. I bought these when 1 AUD bought 94 Yen. At the current rate (~71 Yen), these rims would now cost over $4500, so they are an absolute bargain. Please note it is up to you to make sure that these rims will fit your car (by whatever means). Serious buyers only please! Really sad to see these go...

Thanks very much everyone for all your help. A lot of good info for me to consider. Cheers, Matt

Hey, Thanks a lot Steve-o, that sounds like the sort of place I'm looking for! I'll check them out. If anyone else has had any good experiences though, please add! Cheers Matt

Hey, So I've posted in the tyre forum a few months ago and nothing, so thought I would try my luck here; Anyone recently bought some tyres on the expensive side (say around $1500+ for a set) and had them fitted to rims that you didn't want damaged, and can recommend a place please?? Pretty much anywhere within 50km of Sydney CBD. I'd rather travel further and have them looked after than go somewhere locally but risk their work being cheap and nasty. I'm getting some BRAND NEW 18" x 10" Volks very soon which have a significant amount of polished dish on them and DO NOT want them scratched up by some amateur / apprentice / trainee... Greatly appreciate your help guys Cheers, Matt

Sorry about that, they must be 40 aspect and not 45. I was also looking at the brochure yesterday and it didn't havt 45 listed. So mine would be exactly the same as yours then... Might be a problem for me as the only ones in the dimensions close to what I want are 265/35 18 (for my new rims) which means the tyre sidewall will be 92.75mm. The standard tyre for the R33 GT-R on stock 17"s is 245/45 17, or 110.25mm sidewall height. Currently I'm at 255/40 17 or 102mm, so going for 265/35 is going to make the rolling diameter somewhat lower; nearly 20mm less which to me seems signficant. I suppose that as long as all four wheels are the same dimension for the ATTESA-ETS she'll be right....
-
What a 'tard - sorry about that, that's what I meant. with the 10.5" being slightly wider than mine he might need more positive offset. What tyre width would you recommend ? For a 10", 265? 275?
-
I assume with 10.5" you might well need the +12 over the +15 I suppose to 'tuck' the wheel in closer to the well, as opposed to +15 being more ideal on 10" perhaps Mate let us all know how you go, and I'll do likewise when my rims arrive (can't wait, it's been months since ordering them, they're being manufactured and then shipped here)... Keep us updated with your thoughts as they wear in. I bought a set of brand new Bridgestone Adrenalin RE001s for my R33 GT-R in 255/45 ZR17. That's one at each corner on standard R33 GT-R wheels, with TEIN coilovers. That was a good few months ago. These tyres replaced Dunlop Direzzas which were on the wheels prior (which were basically bald). Clearly I lost a fair bit of outright grip going to the Adrenalins and certainly a lot of steering response (with the Direzzas nearly bald, steering was on the verge of darty, particularly over bumps and ridges when the car would tramline terribly). So at first the Adrenalins made me think they were a bit soft and squidgy, despite running around 37-38 psi cold pressure as I usually do. After a little bit of 'spirited driving' here and there I think they've worn in nicely now (either that or the psychological 'novelty' of the tyres has worn off and I've adapted my driving style) and they seem pretty well keyed into the road. In the wet they also seem competent. I have probably driven the car about 6-7 tenths since getting these tyres in the dry, and maybe only 3/10ths in the wet (haven't driven the car much lately) but in those conditions I'm quite happy with them. I'll soon be getting some 18"x 10" GT-Cs delivered, which I'll need new rubber for, and I'd be happy to go Adrenalin's on those too, but I'll be reading up some more on these and other forums to see what alternatives out there. Matt

I'm waiting for some GT-Cs in 18" x 10" to arrive for my R33 GTR. They're +12 offset and I'm not sure which tyres I'll be putting on just yet but I think +12 is about the limit; I have heard +15 would be less risky. Also check out http://marksink.com/tire_wheel_offset/offset.html to calculate how much the wheel geometry will change with new rims. The standard GTR rims are +30 I believe. Matt

Slow Down On Miller St North Sydney - Police Patrolling
God_speed replied to God_speed's topic in New South Wales
Must be blitzing in a couple of areas at the moment. Just over this last week they've been going mad here in Nth Syd. I know this subject's has been covered before, but a couple of things annoy me: * The way that some of the cops were flagging people down - almost as if they were criminals. If they're doing something like 55+ then fair enough, but not all were; * School zone signs that are hidden by trees, or not lit / do not have flashing lights, especially when there's lots of irrelevant signage in the surrounding area. Having said that, the cops generally do a great job and catching speeders in school zones is completely justified. -
During school zones when there are kids roaming about, anyone in the area should slow down. Particularly at the moment as the Police are cracking down something fierce on speeding drivers during school hours. I work near the North Sydney Oval on Miller St and have seen dozens of cars pulled over by the cops for doing about 50km/h or just over, so you've been warned!

I believe the R35 achieved 295kw? Fantastic day. Thanks to the organisers and to Envy. It was a great chance for me and my dad to get some base line figures for our cars; 188awkW R33 GT-R, stock standard except for fujitsubo 3.5" exhaust and Midori cat 225awkw R34 GT-R, FconPro, boost controller, HKS induction and exhaust and a few other mods We also managed to score a great photo opp with an R32, R33, R34 GT-Rs, and the Haltech R35 GTR on the rooftop... Will post some pics as soon as the forum issues are rectified. Until then I've put some up on flickr.com if anyone's interested. http://www.flickr.com/photos/21305018@N02/...in/photostream/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/21305018@N02/...n/photostream/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/21305018@N02/...in/photostream/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/21305018@N02/...in/photostream/ Matt -
Just Jap Warehouse Robbery - Sydney 20/7/2008
God_speed replied to Just Jap Racing's topic in New South Wales
These b*stards only look out for number one and obviously have no respect for anyone else. Clearly, once they've been caught, nothing that they could repay to the community has actually been earned anyway, so to at least offset us innocents having to pay for their b*stard acts through higher insurance premiums and taxpayer dollars spent on policing our communities there should be much harsher punishments for car theft - give 'em 1000 hours severe community service for one thing. Get them cleaning hypodermics off the beaches, or maybe cleaning the toilets at Redfern station - by licking them clean. Forget about nannying political correctness when it comes to corrective treatment of these thugs - they know exactly what they're doing and they should pay the frigging price. -

Guys, how much will a worn clutch affect the figures? My R33 GT-R is standard except for a midori cat and fujitsubo exhaust, I don't thrash my car so the clutch is not on its last legs and I have no probs driving it normally, but I know that it is worn. Would likely slip on a full bore standing start. Have never had the car on a dyno before but am v.interested in seeing what it'll do. -
Pleeenty of time to save up then.....

Would like to check it out... have not been to onw of your guys' thingos before. Will try and get my dad to bring his BNR34 too? I've got Teins in my R33, not exactly sure what type, but they are height adjustable only, i believe -
haha Sounds like you've somewhow read Wilman and Clarkson's script already
-
Good point, the explanation test... I fear on that basis it might fail terribly Who is the new muse, after Jeremy found out that Kristen Scott Thomas had no taste?
-
On the R35 at Fuji, it was great to hear Jeremy C saying something like "with all this technology you would expect it to feel numb but it doesn't, it feels mechanical... it feels bloody fantastic"
-
That's right, Jason was remarking how the R32's brakes could "explode", apparently.
