What makes you think that car theives would be driving their own car or that the number plates on the car they were driving even belong to that car ? In such cases, having their rego doesn't mean jack. Wouldn't it be more likely that any getaway car used by car thieves would likely be a stolen car or a car with stolen plates on it ? - Adam
