  1. What dyno? Could just be a lower reading dyno.
  2. I have an apexi super suction knockoff intake pipe on my r32 gtst. Didn't actually need it, but seeing as its aluminum, it makes much, much more pronounced whishing and whooshing noises. In the twisties, I can't even hear the exhaust (which is almost a straight pipe, just has a rear muffler) during corners with partial throttle. So if you want loud turbo whoosh, go ahead and do it. I guess it'd be functional if your stock pipe is getting sucked closed. Looks pretty cool, too. All shiny and pretty, it attracts all the dudes.
  3. Mine does the same thing, it's HICAS 4 wheel steering related. Best option is to use a lockout bar and get rid of it.
  4. Replying, there is in fact some interest out there! I'm 6'2 as well, and my car has the factory sunroof so headroom... Isn't there. How much headroom did you gain switching to the GTR seat?
  5. I'm a big fan of the Dunlop Direzza Star Specs. Work very well. Edit: They may be expensive in Australia, they're fairly reasonably priced in Canada.
  6. I have a thunk when I take off as well, as well as when shifting in the lower gears, I have a TON of play in my driveshaft center bearing, it flops around like crazy.
  7. So I was fiddling around under my car the other day, putting a catalytic on for emissions testing, and decided to see how much up and down play my driveshaft has. Much to my shagrin, it has at least 3" of play when pushed at the center bearing, maybe a bit more. I was always under the impression that the clunking on shifts was a result of too much backlash in my diff. Seems I was wrong, it's the driveshaft flinging around like a bastard! I'm not sure how much play is standard, but it sure as hell couldn't possible be 3+ inches. I've also read that too much play in the driveshaft can cause one wheel peeling, even with a good diff. I can only spin one tire, there is zero lockup what-so-ever. My question is this: What should I expect to pay for driveshaft work? I've never had it done before on any car, and I'm kind of fearing it's going to be expensive. If it's expensive enough, I'll get a one piece aluminum shaft made instead. Does anyone know if a mechanically competent guy can DIY the center bearing? Damn these old cars, damn them to hell!
  8. Here's mine. I'm on standard shocks with HKS lowering springs. No cats or resonators, the "hump" is a little bit low, but I've yet to drag it on anything. Speed bumps are fine traveling slowly. If I was any lower it'd start scraping. If it matters, 3" dmax downpipe, 3" jic testpipe, 3.5" xspower (ebay) catback. I suspect a properly made exhaust (IE: Not ebay brand) would be much better, I've seen cars here with similar diameter cat backs that didn't go nearly as low to the floor. They were either custom jobs or properly made Japanese exhausts.
  9. You could just use a 70-60mm reducer, couldn't you? Let us know how the potato goes on a RB20, I know it's the tits on an SR20. what AR are you using?
  10. There are actually a few places that carry it. I'll have to subscribe eventually because the number of stores that have HPI here are dwindling.
  11. I'm going to be on the highway tonight, so I'll come back with hopefully more accurate #'s. Perhaps my tach is a bit out as someone mentioned. Since it doesn't sound out of the ordinary, I can't really complain. It certainly is lively in the first three gears Thanks for the replies everyone
  12. sorry about taking so long to reply :X Car was down and out for a bit while I was doing some stuff to it so I couldn't test on highway. Speed in 5th gear at 3000rpm is 95 km/h indicated, 94km/h on GPS. Tire sizes are stock HCR32 front and rear, 205/55/16. Pressures are 36psi front and rear, although I don't think that would have an effect at all... is my speed/rpm in 5th gear normal?
  13. My fav Australian rag is HPI, mostly because they tend to feature Skylines a lot, and no North American magazines do. Favourite American rag would be Dsport, which is the last good NA magazine as far as I'm concerned. Some very good tech in there. Modified magazine is a Canadian mag that pretends to not be Canadian, which wouldn't bother me, except they also feature nothing but the worst kind of cars. Another Canadian mag, Performance Auto and Sound, is garbage. Sure, there's a lot about sound systems. But in Chevy Cavaliers? Gah! HPI is the best.
  14. Greetings, SAU. After lurking for way to long, I have decided to make my first topic, asking questions and just being a general nuisance. My car, a 5mt 92 gtst, seems to be.... Rev happy? After a recent cruise with a bunch of other skylines, I finally got around to getting an accurate calculation of speed vs rpm on the highway. I was kind of surprised: 5th gear, 4000rpm = 123km/h GPS verified. As far as I know, I have the stock 4.3 diff. However, I also have noisy gears, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th all have a "straight cut" gear sound. It's not dogbox levels of whine, but it's definitely audible in the first few gears (less so above 3rd gear, as my exhaust is way too loud). From what I've gathered, my highway RPM's seem much higher than everyone else that I know who also drives an r32 gtst around my parts. Did Nissan really gear these cars so aggressively, or do I have aftermarket gearing? As it stands, if I'm booting it and I shift from fourth into fifth, the way it pulls in 5th makes it seem like there really should be a 6th gear, like 5th is purely an acceleration gear, rather than an overdrive. I don't really mind cruising along at 4000rpm, don't need to downshift to pass. But it absolutely rapes my highway fuel economy! As a result, I tend to do the speed limit on the highway, since it's never any higher than 100km/h until you get out of the city (the city being Vancouver, if anyone's interested). Thanks for your time ;P
