Ahh .. I forgot about insurance Yeah thats definitely gonna be another barrier Well TAFE also has some short courses on car maintenance and the like, I'll definitely do those in the second semester of Uni I was kinda sceptical about this idea to begin with but I can't think of other ways to get some good hands on experience ... But I've emailed the ultratunes/midas/auto masters and I'll give some other mechanics a call .. maybe I'll just get lucky and find some incredibly nice person ... But I really doubt that they'd hire anybody with 0 experience/qualifications .. hopefully the TAFE short courses will be a bit of a help there but thats a fair way of

I think 9 inch in a +30 offset at the front would be more than safe if you want 8.5's would be just as good, and have more room too if you'd like ill try and get some pics up of my wheels and show u how they fit in my guards? Yeah you can definitely go with wider wheels or a more aggressive offset on the rears and thats a good look too .. However I bought my wheels in a set of 4 with all the same size/offset so yeah .ill grab pics of the front and rears and how they fit for you to have some ideas later in the day .. (my cars not lowered yet) -

Hey everyone, I've been asking around how best to learn about cars and mechanics ... Im in uni so I can't do a tafe course or apprenticeship or anything at the moment which is a real shame.. I'm looking at doing the MITA induction course at the end of year during uni break I've been reading up as much as I can from various books and magazines etc, but I'm not the greatest at digesting theory (lol what am i doing at uni!) and would love some hands on experience but I dont have and cant afford a good set of tools etc yet, and I don't really have a car to work on (too scared to work on the skyline) as of yet .. I need to sort out somewhere to store a cheap bunky car for me to play around with mechanically etc I have basically nearly 0 knowledge and experience of working on cars .. besides detailing and oil/filter changes on the skyline Do you think its possible that a mechanic wouldn't mind having a noob such as myself come down a day or two every week when I have some spare time and they arent very busy to be a royal pain and get in the way while I try to learn? Would anybody know anyone who wouldnt mind this and be able to hook me up? I won't be able to start anytime soon with uni exams coming up and I'm doing alot of vacation work during the holidays to earn some much needed money (will be pretty much working almost everyday) But I'm hoping to be able to start once the second semester begins I'll probably contact the mechanics around my area (Claremont) .. There's a decent amount of them around (ultratune and auto masters and other small businesses) My hopes arent high but I'd really love to do this if its at all possible Let me know what you guys think Cheers everyone

If you're worried about the parts not fitting, how about going to a shop which will be getting the parts in as well for you? They won't really charge you more if the parts dont fit, you just pay a fixed amount for the parts and fitting/spraying and that silver front bumper looks amazing

That's interesting .. Well its up to you, basically the lower the offset the more the wheels stick out of ur guards, most people prefer a more aggressive offset ... imo a +30 would look best ... if ur into the wheels being pretty far in thats cool too though Also, im quite sure that a wider/more aggressive offset on the rears are preferable on a r34 rather than the other way around? On my car the fronts barely fit the 9 inch wheels with a +27 offset, but the rears hold it easily... that lead to my thinking that if you were to do anything with different offsets, you'd get more aggressive ones on the rear? Not too sure, see what other people think, theres a post sumwhere where everyones posted their offsets and what fit their car -
Ah the modding bug hits me hard though I can never get enough Plus I'll be starting to go on a few track days etc and want some power to back me up

I've got 18 x 9 +27 ... They JUST fit in my guards .. and I don't even know if it will if I lower it at all ... Don't think the +20 would but im not too sure I think the guys who checked what offsets would fit my car said around the 30 range would be best? -
Oh, those are just for the muffler on the end, I have a full 2.5" mild steel system mandrel bend but the mufflers cracking and things are getting silly loud so needa stick a nice oval on the end I'll prob be going for the lukey in mild steel, since I prefer the quieter and deeper note they give May not bother with the Cat, unlikely to see much gain in performance for 400 bucks .. may spend the money on extractors instead

VNS24 i used to love meg's too, but have a go at some Final Inspection products ... amazing stuff
-
hahaha its never fast enough is it i'm finding mine far too slow ... unfortunately everyone agrees also hahaha
-
Basically with detailing any "quick and easy" products sacrifice something, which is either the quality of the shine and protection it brings up at the end, or the safety of the product in which case its most likely inducing a ton of swirl marks or damaging your paint in some way or the other ... If you want some suggestions on easy products to use that still do a good job and keep stuff safe PM me or something mate, I work at a detailer and I've got a decent idea on how to go about doing stuff
-
Sounds like a pretty nasty Idea to me mate, never heard of it being done before and definitely wouldnt wanna try it. If you want a quick shine try something like a spray wax or spray detailer

I contacted Mettam's ... Lukey is a mild steel exhaust, and is about 130 bucks Magnaflow is a stainless steel, and costs around 300 *edit* Also, planing to get a high flow cat at the same time ... Is Metal or Ceramic better and what are the differences? I did a search but couldnt find anything in regards to this Metal costs about 100 bucks more

8 or 9 sounds rather harsh maybe car prices in perth are higher than in VIC though ... Considering the RB30DE Conversion rather than the turbo now ... need to have a read of this though it seems complicated ... cheers everyone

Martin hahaha I'm the dude that got ur exhaust off ya n ur the guy with the full conversion that I was talkin about! How's the car?

Hey mate, well basically all the mods I've done to the car were almost a necessity ... The shocks were leaking, the rear bumper had a bad dent in it .. its basically how I control my impulsive spending on the car by just restricting myself to modding parts that NEED to be replaced .. well I try to stick to it anyway! But yeah most of the parts cant really be put back on (they were busted anyway so just got rid of em) Yeah I figured getting a GT-T would be a whole ton better since it has everything required and has tons more potential .. But itd b a shame to let such a nice 34 GT Go, When I got it it was in near perfect condition and I've taken tons of care to look after it and its only gotten better since then I've also met someone who basically changed every part of his car to GT-T Parts, transmission, brakes, exhaust, and it was a whole R34 RB25DET engine in there, not a RB25DE+T But then that would almost defeat one of the main points of keeping my car since I'd be changing to a whole brand new and unknown engine anyway
-
Hey guys, I've got a R34 25GT in Manual .. Had it for 3 years, and its run about 92 000 kms now .. got it with around 69 or so, never had any problems with it and it runs great. So far All i've done is .. high flow panel filter, 2.5" mild steel custom mandrel bent exhaust (gonna need to change the muffler soon), and some wheels and tyres. The car will be getting some impul sides/rear as well soon enough (needed to change this anyway as I banged up the rear bumper ) Next up will be suspension (new bilstein shocks coming in soon since their already leaking) and a new muffler (swapping the cannon for a nice oval with twin tips since thats gonna crack too!), and I'll keep working on the handling mods .. ie swaybars etc etc for quite awhile since I reckon thats the most important thing But the car does feel kinda slow, and the modding bug has hit me bad .. and i want some POWAAAAAA But anyway overall not much work has been done to the car, but since this was my first car I'm kinda attached to it and I really don't want to sell it and get a GTT as most people have recommended, so I was planning to this, since N/A's just dont get much performance out for the money you spend on them! After reading this thread .. im a bit confused ... did anybody have alot of success with this? It seemed like initially it was all going well and then it went sort of downhill ... Also, with prices the way they are now, is it now a better option to try and find a R34 RB25DET Engine? I do know my engine is very reliable though, and as most people have said, working on an engine you know is gonna work well is probably a better idea. Just wondering how your cars are running now after quite awhile? Is everything still running well? Also, I get hit by the modding bug pretty bad and quite often, and I get the urge to do more mods, If i was to do this mod using 2nd hand gt-t parts is there anymore room to improve on the RB25DE? Besides changing those 2nd hand gt-t parts for aftermarket parts ... or would I basically be peaking at the 250kw most people have said and stuck there? Cos then maybe its a better Idea to buy a GTT .... I'm planning on definitely improving the handling/braking first before doing this conversion but just wondering whether this is still considered a good option or if I should really just grow some balls and sell my GT for a GT-T (I would miss my car so bad though ) Also ... in regards to transmission .. if I changed the whole engine to a RB25DET I would need to change the transmission as well right? Cheers everyone Jonno

No problems mate I was gonna go for BC's myself before talking to Gary, TBH I don't know Sh** and I was just recommending a good option to him before he got the BC's in case he woulda been happier with something else BC's have gotten tons of good reviews from loads of people, especially for the price they are they seem to be a pretty good deal, but some have said "you get what you pay for" in regards to them, but maybe they havent used em! I have no clue, and I can't talk since im running stock suspension still lol Just letting you know of another option .. however BC's are 8/6 kg/mm if i remember right .. and Gary would probably be setting the bilsteins/kings around 3.x or 4.x kg/mm Stock suspension is at 3 kg/mm If i'm not wrong? Their both good options imo and both have their +ves and -ves and in the end of the day its up to you Also in regards to lowering, Gary's bilsteins shocks will drop the car by about 24mm from where it is now IF you use stock springs with it as well as stiffening the car up a bit .. so that comes in at about 1000 which is cheaper than BC's too ... thats the way I'm planning on going for now Only problem is my skyline's ride height is about 370mm at front, 380mm at the rear .. (measured from centre of wheel to fender) which is the wrong way around (rear is meant to sit lower than front apparently) Definitely let us know which way you end up going and how it goes! Good luck -
Hey everyone, Just helped jez NF to fit 666DAN's LEDs into his R33... And now his RPM meter isn't moving ... what could have happened? Most likely just a loose connection? Cheers

mate, I've been asking around and the best option is to get bilstein shocks and lowered king springs or I think eibach's were mentioned too. Contact Gary (sydneykid on the forums) and ask him to get this for you, he'll give you some damn good info and the best suspension set up you can get for about the same price as those BC's its about 1k for the shocks, and 600 for springs or so... not much more than the BC's and you're getting some of the best, BC is considered a "budget" coilover -
yeah I'm not really too sure which muffler, I do want something quiet though Ill just head down to Mettams Mufflers in morley to see Pat, everyones recommended him, and see what he reckons
-
When buying copies it may be a good idea to get the kit from the guy who's doing the fitment as well, for example I'm about to get some body work done (Impul sides/rear) and they get their parts from carmate, which I know have some fitting problems at times, but since their the ones buying the parts and fitting them the costs wont be pushed onto me
-
Hey guys, probably gonna have to take my name out for this one Not too sure if ill be able to make it anymore so ill just open up my spot for someone who definitely can. Cheers
