  1. Hey people, Just wanted to get some peoples opinions on this, maybe find out what i would actually need to do in each case... I am currently putting money away for one of these ideas. 1. I have always wanted an R34 GTR. So in a few years i could just buy one straight out, possibly get it imported if the currency is behaving. 2. I am considering just doing a turbo conversion on my R34 GT, making it a GT+T. What parts would i need for this and how much am i looking at? I am assuming that after everything is done, including labor and parts and everything, it would cost around $10000??? 3. Someone on here gave me the idea of doing a complete engine swap. Then i saw another member selling his GTR V-Spec II engine for $8800 or something like that. So my last idea is to buy a GTR engine, and put it in my GT. DO NOT KNOW ANYTHING about this sort of thing though lol, so would the engine fit, what problems am i looking at, who in Perth would do it for me, etc? Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated, Cheers
  2. Got em off eBay, so they only set me back $92! Had a look though, and its the exact same kit that all the shops are selling around here for $300. I have the warranty, so i can get a replacement if needed, you guys think its necessary?
  3. Well it happened again last night when i was driving, except on the other side this time. Works fine again when i turn them off and on though, and stays on. Only happens when i first try to turn them on. They work perfectly after that initial fault
  4. Hey all, Me and my mate just installed my new 6000K HID's in my R34, they seem to be working fine... Now. Lol. When we first turned them on, they were working fine, so we started cleaning up and we were gonna leave them on for 10 minutes just as a burn in period. But after about a minute, the left hand headlight just turned off. So we checked everything, everything was still connected and seemed to be fine. So i turned them off and on again and it just came back on. It stayed on for the 10 minutes this time, so it seems to be working fine now. I just wanted to find out what would cause it to do that and if it might happen again? I must say, they look sick! Ridiculously bright lol, but sooooooooo cool! Cheers for any suggestions or ideas =]
  5. Where you located mate? Im interested in the passenger side power window switch if it is all still working. Dont want one sent through post though, they are fragile!
  6. Mundaring Weir road in Mundaring is pretty fun, lots of twists and turns, with some decent straights in there as well. Definitely not much traffic, only see a few other cars along there. Speed limits vary from about 50kms to 90kms (i think; it may be 80kms), with most of it being 70kms i think. Its not very fast, but its still quite a fun road. Would only recommend cruising there in the day though, lots of twists and wildlife
  7. Yeh except it sounds like your cousin doesnt really know what type of car he wanted, he just bought them because they have a good rep. If you are gonna do that, then why not buy a Porsche or Ferrari? But me, gimme a R34 over any $500,000 car any day. Me and my mate are both just passionate about Skylines, and he also likes Silvia's. Lol, he could try that trick if his dad still lived with him, but his parents are separated... Perhaps the reason his dad is so loaded... Lol JUST KIDDING =P
  8. If you look at an investment and only consider the ones that you will make a profit on then most things are a bad investment. If to you cars are a thing to get you from A to B, then yes, they are a bad investment. But if your car is something you enjoy, then spending money on it makes you happy, and thats what money is all about yes? You spend your life working hard so that you can have your creature comforts. In that sense, spending money on your car isnt a bad investment. In any case, you may think its cheaper to have a small car compared to something like a Skyline. Fact is, all cars are a bottomless pit for money. Say you have an old Getz or something like that, you own it for 5 years, the whole time knowing that you are gonna buy a Skyline. That is 5 years you have spent pouring money into a car you dont want, all the while watching its value go down. Neither of those facts make you smile do they? Now i dont know about you, but i would much rather pay a little bit extra money and own a good sporty reliable car like a Skyline; which brings a smile to your face everytime you open the garage door, or top up the petrol. You enjoy driving everywhere you go, you dont dread that everyday drive to work or in my case uni. I think it is unfair to say that someone of our age 'doesnt deserve' to own a sporty car. We have our entire lives to work hard for our possessions. My mate is joining the navy, the pay isnt great, but he gets $35000 a year, and there are no expenses in the Navy so he will build up a lot of savings while he is serving. While he is on duty the Navy pays for everything he needs, so really its a good idea. You say id weep at the resale price of your GTR, but do you weep about it? Or do you enjoy what youve done to it? I spent over $5000 on my Holden Vectra just to keep it running, and ive only owned it for a year and a half. Thats a ridiculous amount of money to put into a car i was never going to keep.
  9. Haha little bit harsh, we are newly graduated students in a poor economic climate, its not like he is some dole bludger that cant be bummed finding a job, its just that it is almost impossible to get a job right now. He is joining the navy as a mechanic soon anyway. Just because we are young doesnt mean we are stupid. He isnt interested in modding it at this stage, and he knows how to maintain a car. We have grown up around cars, we do know about them
  10. Hahahaha just read that right lol, pretty sure he meant 460kms per tank lol... Unless his tank is HUGE, and he uses a a ridiculous amount of fuel per 100kms lol.
  11. Ok yeh lol, ill check that out. Definitely sure about the Vectra, i was as surprised as you are lol. They are good cars to drive, quite powerful for a 4 cylinder, but shocking on fuel lol. And the electrics in them are the worst thing ever created, they have so many problems its not funny. Spends more time off the road than a track car lol
  12. Yeh that sounds pretty much like what it does. I guess it could be that, but i couldnt see anything with the actual window system that looked wrong, and my window is actually working pretty well now except that now the passenger side switch is broken and it can only be rolled up and down from the drivers side. Took the switch out and found that the little clips that hold the rocker in place have all snapped off, so i need to buy a new switch, which is f**ked! Anyway, it appears to be working pretty well if i do it from the drivers side, it isnt going down on an angle anymore. Except the seal is coming off the door, so i have to open the door to wind it back up with the door open =[ Seriously, power windows are so shit, manual windows are so much better!
  13. Haha good to see its owned by someone on the forums, always a good sign lol. As i said in my previous post, he can afford to maintain it, he just cant afford it straight out
  14. Ok yeh, all good points. First off he does have a part-time job, so he can afford to keep it running, he just doesnt have a full-time job so cant afford to buy it straight out. He is an enthusiast with R32's and S14/15 Silvia's, he isnt really so much into other models. If he saved up his money then he could buy it himself, the thing is by then this car will be gone, so he will probably need to find a different car and it will probably cost more. Secondly, I used to drive a 1999 Holden Vectra, which is a 2.2L 4 Cylinder and it has a 60L petrol tank. I got about 350kms to a full tank out of that, and that was driving it pretty defensively, no aggressive acceleration or anything. With my R34 Skyline i get about 470kms out of its 65L tank, so i actually found that the Skyline is more fuel efficient than my 4 cylinder... He isnt exactly an inexperienced driver, even though he hasnt had his licence long. He has been driving since he was about 7 and has done a few performance and defensive driving courses. Obviously he doesnt claim to be the best driver in the world, im just saying he knows his way around a car, he isnt just another one of those 17 year old kids that simply wants a Skyline because they have a reputation of being fast. As the last post said, the 32 has new coil covers and clutch, so it isnt sitting on a lot of expensive suspension repairs, etc. He would also get a mechanic to check the car over for him and tell him about anything that needs to be repaired, he wont go near it if it needs anything done to it straight away
  15. Hey everyone, I currently own an R34 GT, obviously NA. I have been playing with the idea of converting it to a turbo in a few years time when im off my P's and stuff, just wanted to find out everything that has to be done to convert a non-turbo to a turbo, like all the supporting mods and stuff, and how much money im looking at here?
  16. Hey all, my friend just drove my R34 Skyline today, and it got him hooked lol, now he wants to buy one. Only thing is, he doesnt have a full-time job, and doesnt really have any money, so he wants to try to convince his dad to give him a loan for the car. He wouldnt mind an R34, but would really like R32. We were looking at a few of them on different websites, and this is the best value one we found: http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/privat...id=11DFF7A357CA. What we are trying to do now is come up with a convincing arguement to present to his dad. We need reasons why it would be a good car to own, other than it being a Skyline lol, because his dad wont like that it is a turbo. So we need to convince him that it is good as a standard car, not just as a fast car. Knowing about Skylines, i know a GTS-T isnt exactly a GTR, but his dad would hear turbo and just think "ridiculously fast". So anyone got any ideas, we would really like some specifications and stuff about them lol, and why this car would be a good car to buy. I really only know about 34's, so its hard to find a good arguement... Cheers for any help!
  17. The passenger side window is playing up on my R34 GT, the front of it goes down faster than the back, the back seems to get stuck, and then the whole window gets stuck and i cant get it down or up. If i open the door and push the button for awhile eventually it sometimes goes back up. But then it hit the seal on the door, and i cant close it unless the door is open anyway. I havent owned my car for very long, and to my knowledge the previous owner didnt have this problem. However i think what has happened is the previous owner got his sound system professionally installed, and they messed it up. If i take off the door panel and try to see what is going on, i cant see anything wrong with the rollers, but there is a lot of speaker wiring in the door, and i think it is getting wrapped around the front roller of the window, so when i push the button it drags the front down and then gets stuck in the roller so the window cant move anymore... I just wanted to find out if anyone else has had a problem like this with their window, or if you think it is those speaker cables? If you do think it is the cables, does anyone know how to get the glove box out? I presume the wiring would go behind the glove box, so if i could get it out then i could pull the excess wiring through from the door and cable tie it somewhere, but i cant see how to get the glove box out, ive removed all the screws i can see and it still wont budge at all. Cheers for any help =]
  18. Haha in defense of us P-Platers, i just finished putting a heavy duty clutch, R33 GT-R Brembo brakes, Yoko tires, and Split Fire coil packs on my R34 GT Skyline... Not even gonna think about installing a turbo until im off my P's. The only modification ive done to the engine is the K&N air filter. The only mods i can see myself doing in the near future would be things like higher temperature HID headlights. Not even gonna think about touching the power output until im off my P's and have experience driving a car that will stay on the road. Clearly handling is waaaaaay more important than power priority wise, what point is there in having 2000hp at the wheels when all the car does is tail out and spin the wheels when you try to take off? Might do a nice skid, but it sure as hell wont go quick. Nah, down-force, traction and control is what its all about
