  1. Thanks Shell, Nope, pretty sure it wasn't your mum, unless you were adopted by an Asian family ! Car get's towed off this afternoon, the assesor wanted to have a look at the car in a workshop while up on a hoist. Should find out in a few days if it's going to be repaired or if it's a right off...... J
  2. G'day everyone, This is going to grab a lot of peoples attention ! Looks like Jaycar Electronics have been doing a heap of work on making Automotive kits aimed straight at EFI/Turbo performance ! The first one that grabbed my attention was a kit version of the S-AFC, for around $80 !! Also is a handcontroller to tune it... As well as a fully indepenant electronic boost controller for around $80.. :headspin: :headspin: :headspin:  The sad thing is that most of these kits are due out in September A few other kits that will be on interest too, have a look at the links; Digital Fuel Adjuster Electronic Boost Controller Hand Contoller for Digital Adjusters Digital Pulse Adjuster Intelligent Turbo Timer Nitrous Fuel Mixture Adjustable Temp Switch Frequency Switch (shift light) High Temp Switch (with display) Duty Cycle Display Voltage Switch J
  3. Thanks Ben, It sounds like that is what has happened in the past to this motor... Turbo's have just been replaced, I think the motor will be off to a shop soon so they can strip it down and give the owner the good/bad news. J
  4. Eventually a stuffed bearing will sieze. When they are on their way out they make a noise like a 4lb hammer hitting the block (but a bit more dull than that). Nasty noise If you can imagine the clearances going on the big end, it'll let the conrod slap around on the crank a little, but that little bit is all it takes The RB30 bottom end would be great !! I actually mentioned it to him, but I think $$ is a bit tight so may need to stick to the RB26 bottom.... Money should be free I say. J
  5. Hmm, that's a good thought. The turbo's were replaced before the car was bought, so maybe the front turbo shat itself.. But I don't thenk that is the main problem. Hard to say without dropping the crank out. It sounded like a big end bearing, time will tell. J
  6. *Jay sits back with a beer, prepared for the onslaught* My money would be on a GTS-t with $16k of mods. You can build it the way you want... But if I was to go for a street only car, probably go for the GTR simply cause of the 4WD and the fact you may have less hassles with defects if it's a stock GTR. J
  7. Long story short, I had a stack, got T boned.... Find out this week if it's a write off.. Everyone is OK, that's the main thing. J
  8. I probably won't be able to make this one now May not have a car, and if I do, it'll be off the road.. Next time maybe. J
  9. Yeah, that's true. Hopwfully once it's rebuilt and back in it'll be smooth sailing. He's going with forgies, and balancing the bottom end while it's out. Not to mention a sump baffle kit and oil cooler kit.... Seems to be a fair bit of bad luck going around at the moment J
  10. Got it out yesterday with no problems. Ended up pulling it out the top without the gearbox. For some reason, the top start motor bolt didn't give us any grief !!. By 9pm the motor was totally stripped down to just the block, and we coult see straight away that bores 1,2 and 3 have been copping harsh treatment. Won't know for sure until the pistons and crank come out, but I'd say it's the big end bearings...... Thanks heaps for all the pointers J
  11. Ouch - not good. Sorry to hear about that. We've got it all planned for tomorrow already (got it planned with a few mates), so it looks like two GTR's will loose their motor this weekend !! wrxhoon - thanks heaps for the run down, it'll come in handy for sure. Jayson
  12. Hard to say at this stage, the fella from the panel shop that saw it today said his first impressions was that it'd be around $15k, but without having a good look over it he wasn't certain. J
  13. Me too fella's Just heard that the assesors will be out Monday or Tuesday to have a look.....
  14. SilverSlyder & Sigsputnik - thanks guys. That's true, accidents happen, and upto now I've had a pretty much spotless driving history. I think it was around 14 years ago that I had my last speeding ticket !! Now all I can do is go with the flow, if it get's written off then I'll start the hunt for another, if it doesn't then it looks like the push bike is gunna get a good work out until it's fixed J P.S. - I'll look into Pulford's and Barret Bros - thanks again.
  15. Thanks Amaru. Looks like the insurance company is arranging for an asessor to come out to my house where the car is to see if it's written off or worth repairing. Not sure when they are due out (the smash repair place passed this info on) so I'll just wait for a call. I'd say there's around $15k worth of damage there J
  16. Yepp, unfortunately it was me. Everyone is OK, nobody was hurt etc, but it was a pretty hard hit. I've had a smash repair place around to have a look at my car today and it looks like a very close right off, but without pulling it to bits it's a bit hard to tell. Basically guys, I checked for traffic twice, but I should've checked three times. Not good, not good at all. I still feel sick in the stomach for all the hassles that I've put the other person through. If you talk to any of my friends they will tell you that I am the safest driver out of all my friends, but it just goes to show that accidents can happen to anyone. I'm finding it a bit hard to find a panel shop to fix the car (if it's not written off), does anyone have any ideas? The fella's that were around this morning were from Custom Kolours who do all the work for Fast and the Furious, as well as a heap of work for the Summer Nats cars. So far I've phoned Tony Farrugia, Grace, and Edwards. I'm so pi$$ed off with myself.... J
  17. That sounds great Tom, thanks for the tips I'll have to convince them to bring it out the top - either way I'll be happy not to worry about that damn top start motor bolt We have a high lift 5 tonne jack, I think it can lift upto about thigh height !! Hopefully that will be enough to get the motor out with the box attached. Fingers crossed J
  18. Dave - have they contacted you about a delivery date yet? Cheers J
  19. Cool, the only thing that we're worried about is the clearance on the turbo's/plenum and the 4WD stuff, but it should all work out.. I't be great to drop or lift the motor out with the box attached cause that top starter motor bolt took us about 30-45mins last time !! So if we can rip the lot out in one go it'll be much faster J
  20. I'm not sure what range SK usually uses to get the average power figure. I suspect it would be somewhere around the ~3000 to ~7000 range. One thing, if your going to start comparing average powers, make sure you use the same range and the same amount of points so the equation is the same. Looks tough though, how do you go with traction as it goes from about 170rhp to ~280rhp in 500rpm. J
  21. Hahaha, not sure about the chop chop way But the car is best towed cause we don't want to take the risk of further damage etc..... Don't want to totally root the crank !! Well, I've have a chat to the boys and see what they say, looks like we could go either way, but if we go out the top I'd prefer to take the box off first... I can see it now, hoist swings the motor the wrong way and ends up through the windscreen !! Do'h better run, big brother uncut is back on !!! J
  22. LOL - yepp, the front pipes will be one of the first things we'll take off We've got two engine cranes, both will be there, along with the engine stand, but not sure if we'll use the engine stand, not sure of the load rating on the stand (the RB's are pretty long).... Well that pic shows that the turbo's are still on the motor along with the plenum, so hopefully it all can come out as one (except for the power steering pump maybe....
  23. Thanks for the replies guys. So what's the concenus?? From the top, or drop it down?? We have two 3 tonne hoists we can use, along with a 3 tonne jack and the usual pissy 1.5 tonne jacks... Also heaps of axel stands etc... We did a GT4 by dropping it down, and lifting the car up on an angle (have a look at the pic) !!! Took about 4 hours, but with the GTR I'm worried about clearances of the turbo's and plenum if we drop it down. Ideally, we'd like to keep as much of the bolt-on bits on the motor until the motor is out of the car. Much easier to work on when it's sitting by itself J
  24. 4 hours !! That's pretty good. I was expecting a lot longer than that. Yeah, we had a hard time with the top starter motor bolt when we did the clutch !!! Starting to sound easier than I thought. J
