A standard GTR core or similar dimensioned ( 600x300x75 ) aftermarket item is what most fit to GTSt's. Take a look in the Group Buy and For Sale sections. There are always heaps of good deals to be had. Z.

Spend your $$$ on more performance goodies. I have a FMIC on my S2 R33 and I could barely feel the lag difference between it and the stock cooler. If you want to look into shorter piping ( ie. less lag ) down the track, you can have the standard manifold modified to move the throttle body to the front for a couple of hundred $. Either way, the standard manifold will be fine for 250rwkw. Z.

Wipe some spit on your valves to check if they are leaking. If they blow bubbles at you then get them changed. Z.

***CANCELLED***Eastern creek Twilight Drive Evening 19/11/04
Zane replied to red900ss's topic in Events Archive
Yep, just called the ARDC and the 19th November and 10th December Twilight Drives have been cancelled. No reason was given for asking for the cancellation of these events. So far the 21st January 2005 is still on but will likely be cancelled as well. And I was just about to fax my form through. It's been sooo long since I've been out on any track. I was really looking forward to putting in a few quick laps without looking out for the boys in blue. Bugger. Z. -
Brake pads must be standard Nissan items when complied which is rarely the case on imports. Can be a huge concern on R34 GTR as they are hard to source in Australia and worth $1000 each end. Not sure if they have to be of a minimum depth. Z.

Porsche Carrera GT fastest car on Nürburgring
Zane replied to crystalq3's topic in General Automotive Discussion
I seem to remember reeling off a 6:58 in the Brabham on Grand Prix Legends ( PC version ) but somehow I dont think that counts. I now have a job and a real life, no really, I do!!! Z. -
Mitsu Colt, 1.6ltr, auto - 160kph (knuckles white on steering wheel but still beat the dude in the gemini) - thanks to mum for loaning me the car for the night. HZ Kingswood, 3.3ltr, auto - 120kph, flat to the boards and nothing left at all. VC Commodore, 3.3ltr, 4sp manual, extractors + exhaust - 170kph but sounded more like 300kph. Datsun 180B, 4sp manual, downdraft webber, extractors + exhaust - never took much notice of speed as too many other things were coming loose. Oh, and speedo cable broken for best part of 2 years. R33 GTS25t Skyline, FMIC, 3" exhaust, 9psi, 165rwkw - 180-190kph down EC straight on speed cut ( 170 thru turn 1 if tyres haven't gone off ) Z.

If you go to Nissan the same part number is used for both VL and R31/R33. And the 10mm locator hole on the VL pump does not line up but it should be ok without it. I got a VL water pump from Robbo's for $80. Should get a similar price from any spare parts store. Z.

I was under the impression that bonnet pins/locks were ok so long as the standard lock was still in use. Effectively twice the safety and a bit of overkill. Maybe they are concerned with pedestrians getting caught on them whilst flying over your bonnet. Who knows....? Z.

EOI: genuine GTR wing.
Zane replied to Lepperfish's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
I have a white series 2 GTST and would consider a direct swap of the whole bootlid. Mine is in excellent condition. Can you send pics to: [email protected] Also is it an adjustable genuine GTR wing? Z. -
Personally I like a squarer vent on the series 2 GTS ( assuming from your avitar ). Better suits the square front and flat bonnet. Something like what they used on the Sierra Cosworth bonnet. Then again, have you felt the weight of the standard bonnet? That's a good enough reason to invest in a vented aftermarker one. Z.

Hi all, Just doing my major service and have noticed that one bolt ( the 10mm locator ) on the new water pump doesn't line up. It's out by about 10mm leaving a gap of about 90mm between the bolts on each side of it. I have spoken to Nissan and they only have the one part number for this item (2101-21u26 : same as the R31 and VL RB30) so insist I have the right one. Have also spoken to the boys at Just Jap and they know of this issue and recon I can just leave it off with no problems. Now I do a few track days a year and would hate to think that the pump could blow the seal near this missing bolt and spray coolant onto the timing belt while at 200km/hr down the straight at Eastern Creek. The repercussions could be quite severe. What should I do? Just fit it without the bolt and pray it doesn't let go? Maybe try to redrill a new hole in the pump casting? Has anyone replaced the water pump themselves and what did you do about the misalligned bolt? Please advise as the car is off the road until I can figure out what to do out this. Z.
-
Sorry Bobby, didn't need an O2 sensor. Nissan Parts counter is only a phone call away. You should be able to find the part number by searching past posts. Z.
-
FYI - Nissan have superseded some part numbers. Timing Belt - old part number ( 13028-20p25 ) - new part number ( 13028-5L327 ) I was quoted $99 Water Pump ( same as VL RB30 ) - old part number ( 21010-21u25 ) - new part number ( 21010-21u26 ) I was quoted $151.60 Z.

Just thought I'd add that I have used this type of DIY puncture repair twice and it's an easy job. Never had any problems with leaking and quite frankly I forgot that I've had one in my right rear tyre for the last 10000kms. Have done track days with speeds up to ~200km/hr and never had any issues. Sure beats spending time and money at a tyre shop. Great thread JimX. Z.

When will this wing make it onto a skyline?
Zane replied to Bleach1's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
I'm thinking there must be an in cabin control that allows adjustment venitian blind style so that it becomes one huge wing. Could be used as an airbreak in emergencies!!! Z. -
I'm pretty sure that coloured personalised plates cost $50 for the application fee and $450 per year. Normal white slimline personalised plates cost $400 per year. Z.

I'm thinking of sponsoring an all girl team. Does anyone know where I can get CAMS approved fire retardant bikinis from? Z.

This story sounds familiar. I got done for 2dB over the limit nearly 18 months ago now. I fixed it by adding another resonator under the car. Originally I had a hotdog style resonator and barrel type s/s muffler at the back of my 3" system and recorded 92dB. Had another box type resonator installed inline with the hotdog and it brought the reading down to 89dB, just enough to get the EPA off my back. As long as you use straight through type mufflers and resonators you shouldn't loose too much power, but honestly, I wish I had just borrowed a standard exhaust for the test. It would have saved cutting up a perfectly good exhaust. Z.

Next Moto Concepts Track Day, Eastern Creek, 2nd October 2003.
Zane replied to Majanal's topic in Events Archive
Hi all, it's the big girl here. Not driving has it's advantages. I left the track feeling refreshed and with a full tank of fuel. Finally got to be a passanger in the fatz mobile. In between giggling like a school girl he actually linked just about every turn on the track. And most without touching the wheel with both hands!!! Most memorable moment: 140km/hr into turn 1, in the wet, with Fatz whipping the wheel from left to right trying to get it sideways. Not the most comforting of moments but you do get used to it after 3 or 4 laps. The R31 actually behaved like a true champion and stayed on the track for the entire trip ( not counting the numerous times the rears were in the mud ). The only thing I regret about the day was not taking my video camera. There was some awesome drifting, both intentional and unintentional, and the footage would have been great. Fatz, I left my helmut in your car. PM me your mobile number so I can call to arrange to get it off you. Looking forward to new rear tyres and the next track day. Z. -

Zane replied to Majanal's topic in Events Archive
Dan, You have PM. Z. -
I just pulled out the EPA defect I got in Apr 02 and it states that the limit is 90dB at 4800rpm. I got this defect for a reading of 92dB measured .5m from the exhaust tip at an angle of 45deg. I shouldn't have looked this up cause now I'm pi$$ed off again. Z.

tyre review..what's the go for hard street use?
Zane replied to sebaz's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
If you can find someone who stocks them you might want to look at the Kumho Ecsta MX tyre. I have 235/40 18's on the front of my 'line and they were a reasonable $360 each. They are the best tyre I have used both on the road and the track and have excellent wet weather handling due to a fairly soft silica based compound. Have only clocked up 5000kms so far but they appear to be wearing quite well (even after 250kms at track days). Also liked Toyo Trampio F-08's but they are as rair as hen's teeth and only lasted 20,000kms. Did give them a flogging though. Z. -
Dan, I'm in. Deposit made, should clear in your account by 7/7/03. Z.
