The car would not let me relearn the idle, no matter how perfectly I timed it, even using the NDS3 app it didn't work. I took it to my local Nissan dealer and told them to flash my ECU to version C and then perform the idle relearn. It worked!   3. I'm hoping they can get the mini-dash install to look factory. If not, an option hide it in the centre console box and use the aux would be great (feature request)
  4. To be honest, I simply prefer the installed from factory look. I've been following motorvatediy mini-dash display and bluetooth server which looks promising and keen to see the final product. If it can output via the Aux to the Nav screen, even better. The oil pressure reading is usually taken at hot idle and 2k rpms; get the sensor to turn on the oil pressure warning light when the oil pressure is less than 14 psi. It should be enough warning before damage occurs? I'm not sure whether the ECU uses the sensor for anything else.
  5. The amount of labour should be along the same lines as replacing a timing chain or water pump - 8 to 12 hours. I was quoted $3.5k by the local dealership to replace the timing chain in my V35 (including parts and labour). The stock oil pressure sensor turns on the dash warning light at 5psi which is a late warning. Can this sensor be replaced so it can turn on the warning light at 10psi considering the minimum oil pressure at hot idle should be at least 14psi?
  6. Plenty of owners of Japanese 370z cars have experienced it so its baffling why the issue isn't been reported for V36 Skylines. The VQ35HR engine is affected too This is a good link that explains common issues with the VQ37VHR. "Oil Galley" (I believe its correctly called Oil Gallery) is at the top of the list. Its hard to determine how big an issue it is. On one side, the thinking is that because there is no recall for the problem from Nissan and the sheer number of units sold it is likely to be a rare occurrence. On the other, Infiniti G37 and 370z owners have experienced the issue often enough that they consider it inevitable. From www.my370z.com

  8. It is well documented that the 2008-2012 model year Nissan 370z and Infiniti G37 cars have experienced the gallery gasket issue. This is where the paper gallery gaskets in the VQ37VHR disintegrate causing a drop in engine oil pressure and potential engine failure. You generally get no warning, mileage varies from 40k-150k miles when it happens and when it throws a few codes its considered too late. From what I read, Nissan revised the gasket to use metal for the 2013+ engines. I've scoured the internet looking for Skyline V36 370GT owners having this issue but have not found any. Considering the Infiniti G37 was also made in Japan, I'd expect to see the same issue in the Skyline V36. I'm trying to ascertain: - How many V36 Skyline coupe, sedan and crossover owners experienced this issue and at what milage did it occur? - Does the VQ25HR in the 2006-2012 Skyline V36 250GT Sedan have the same issue?

  10. As a matter of interest, how many km's has your V35 travelled? Nissan have told me there's no service interval specified for the chain and to replace it when it gets noisy.
  11. I bought a new scan cable (A's Dev with FTDI chip) and it works perfectly on my 300GT. Tried on my mates 350GT, still no go. We contacted Cockram Nissan here in Christchurch who first quoted $100 to put the consult machine on it but when a tech got involved, the price went to $300 and them needing the car for 2 hours. Their reason was they have seen this before with throttle body cleanings and they need to apply a "patch" to fix it. Has anyone encountered this?
  12. As a test I tried different timings; 4 secs instead of 3, 10 secs instead of 7 and the MIL light still flashed as it usually does. So it looks like there is no real indicator to whether you get it right or not. However, after doing the idle relearn, the idle will sit at ~700rpm until it is turned off. I wouldn't expect it to do that if my timing was off. Putting the ECU in diagnostic mode, it has 10 slow flashes followed by 10 fast flashes then repeats (no codes detected?) I've ordered a different OBD2 adaptor so see whether that works any better with the Nissan Datascan
  13. I'm not sure why the Nissan Datascan is failing to set the Idle Relearn. It works fine on my 300GT so it maybe something with my ODB2 adaptor When I do the accel pedal/key method, I'm getting the correct flashing lights etc. All of the pre-requisites (battery voltage, electrical load off etc) have been checked. Do you get the all the right learning responses if any of the pre-requisites are not met? Thanks
  14. Hello, A mates 2004 350GT 6MT was experiencing rough idle and stalling at cold startup. Using the Nissan Datascan software, no codes were found and it looked like a dirty throttle body. Cleaned the throttle body (TB left connected to the harness) and assembled all back together. Performed the Accelerator Released, Throttle Valve Closed and the Idle Air Volume learning (turn key and accelerator pedal methods) and when the car is started, it idles at 725rpm. Turn the key off restart it and it will idle at 900rpm. Reading the codes, comes up with no errors. The Idle Relearn option in the Datascan software continuously fails unless the "clear self learn" is performed first but still won't stick. Scouring G35driver has come up with some ideas but none have been successful. Before booking it into Nissan to perform the learning, does anyone have any ideas? Thanks
  15. I contacted the NZ distributor and their price was $294+GST when the Aus-NZ dollar was almost on parity. The cheapest I've seen is an Aussie outfit on trademe who have them for $260 + $16 freight. A Few car workshops were only interested if they did the whole job. Engineering outfits are more flexible and willing. Can anyone comment on what tyre wearing results the superpro bushes gave them on a sedan with 350z suspension? 1/2 a degree improvement is still borderline on the camber alignment.
  16. Yes I did, the superpro bushes are $300 plus you need a workshop press to fit ~ $500 all up. The bushes won't need to be certified.
  17. I currently have -1.45 degrees on the front. I'm hoping coupe springs will increase this to above -1.0 degrees and within sedan specs
  18. I agree that extra camber helps cornering but grippier tyres do a better job. The excessive camber in the front is eating the inside of the tyres.
  19. Yup, I agree that BC Coilovers are the way to go although they are around $1500 plus in NZ you need to get a $500 vehicle certification for this type of suspension modification. Same story for adjustable camber arms. If the coupe springs bring the camber back into spec, its a cheap solution at $100
  20. A few G coupe owners have purchased the 350z revised, complained that the rears didn't get any drop. In fact they mentioned they had the same spring markings 2 red, 1 purple and height for the 2005 350z and 2006 Coupe rears. I've currently got a two finger width distance between front and rear guards and would expect I'd get 3 finger gap if I replace the fronts from a coupe. I curious to know what improvements that will do for the camber in the front. Thanks
  21. I understood the G/Z combo is coupe suspension on the rear and the 350z suspension on the front. The revised 350z and 2005+ Coupe have the same spring rate in the rear. In fact, G35 drivers have indicated it is the same spring. So effectively running the revised 350z is the same drop as the G/Z combo. What I'm looking at is converting the my setup from a revised 350z setup to a 2005+ coupe setup by replacing the front springs with the coupe version. I cannot find a single picture of what it would look like or any feedback on anyone doing this.

  23. I recently purchased a Vagcom 409/KKL 409.1 which uses the FT232RL chip (supports Win7/8) from ebay for US$11 and use it with the Nissan Datascan Consult 2. Works perfectly on the 300GT.
  24. Purchased Nissan Datascan and an adaptor and read the codes. (works well with the 300GT) Came up with a B1166 which I gather to be LH side (passenger) floor harness or seat belt pretensioner. So what are the chances that its just a bad connector? Thanks
  25. The yellow connector under the seat has two wires; yellow/red and yellow/green Any recommendation on a consult3 solution that supports the VQ30DD?
