  1. See if you can borrow some complete headlight assemblies that are non HID.
  2. I believe you have to go to the police station that the issuing officer was from. When I did this myself, I first went to the local station where I was told all he could do was give me an extension to drive the car, and I would have to take it to the Snr Sgt of the issuing officer to try for a removal. If the rest of the car is clean Regency my not even look at the HID's. My 33 GTR went through compliance with factory projector type HID's. But compliancing is a bit of a joke.
  3. How often does this happen and how many motorists get their wallet lightened unnecessarily.
  4. Gawler copshop was $26:50. I don't know about filing complaints though, it might be like jumping on an bull-ants' nest. The push for the defect madness and big penalties for small things like a fallen off P plate and displaying an expired rego sticker is coming from above and the police enforce it. It's just a shame some love their job too much and enjoy making our lives miserable. On the other hand some guys ask for it. It's the triviallity of some of it that gets me fired up. Motorists need a body that can try and get things a bit more level headed. Come on Nick Xenephon!
  5. Whether it's 1, 2, or 3 things they get you for, It appears the issuing officer can put what he likes on the form regardless, and arguing will get you nowhere exccept maybe more trouble, no matter how right you are. I would guess there are somethings that would need to be Regency, but I would say they send guys to Regency just for the heck of it, unless their Sgt has send to because he doesn't want them at his station. Also, it raises a lot more revenue going through Regency Park.
  6. I just happen to have a noisy (on startup) bigend bearing as well, so I'm thinking of maybe getting it all done at once. This means pulling the motor, and though it won't be cheap for the big end operation (somewhat over 2K), it will greatly reduce the labour cost of the turbo gasket repair. I was just going to try a heavier oil or an additive to stop the knock, but that would just delay the inevitable, and while it's there they can add something to the gearbox to quieten the noisy bearing. Oh the joys of importing a car.
  7. PM me if you can, and I'll send you my phone number and we'll work out a price and pickup. I may be going to Harbourtown this weekend, so maybe I could drop them off if you're still interested.
  8. Have booked in with Boostworks. Shaun checked out the leak and it is the rear manifold to turbo gasket.
  9. would 4 X 10mm be any good
  10. Boostworx is $950 including gaskets.
  11. I've got a couple of quots already. Boostworx $1,000 so then I rang Auto solutions who quoted $1,000 plus around $400 worth of gaskets which makes me think Boostworx was maybe only quoting labour. I'll check that. Andrew at Autosolutions said he would also do the manifold studs while it was apart. Total should be under $1500 for the basic job. I may also consider getting exhaust manifold matched to the turbos while its all apart.
  12. My car is an R33GTR. I have a blown exhaust gasket in the engine bay. I don't know which gasket it is, but I can hear it loud and clear. I am not sure about tackling this myself, so I am looking for a good workshop/repairer that doesn't charge heaps. I guess I would be wanting the complete exhaust/turbo setup regasketted while it was apart ( not necessarily internals of turbos), rather than doing the job again later if another gasket blows. Can anyone help or advise. Thanks, Roger.
  13. Thanks! That's the one Z442 or WZ442. Job done.
  14. I bought an RB26DETT filter from Sprint Auto Parts for my R33 GTR and when I got home I found it was physically somewhat bigger. (The Cooper part number is WZ145 interchangeable with Z145A.) I have to obviously buy a special remover for this as stated above. The thing is the filter I got was listed for, I think, an R32 GTR but there was nothing listed for the R33 GTR. The codes on the filter in my car are DLXA and V91110102. Can anybody tell me which one I need? Thanks.
  15. I believe the usual used to be 10% plus 3kph. So in a 60 zone you rarely got booked for less than 10 k's over the limit, that is usually 70 and above, although it was possible. Also I spoke to our local officer a few weeks ago and he told me when he was on radar duty he used to allow a minimum of 10k's over. It's a bit tighter these days. Even he got done recently be a red light camera for around 67 in a 60 zone When I drive in built up areas I try to stick to the limit, and that 10kph above the limit would give me a better buffer for when I drift over. Also a lot of our roads are way undersigned and also inconsistently signed, so yes some speed limits could go up without being more dangerous. The big thing these days is - Slower Is Safer - No Argument.
  16. Sometimes the punishment, that is the fine, just doesn't fit the crime. Giving a defect for the sake of it. $600 dollar fines for an oversight. Giving good people a hard time for nothing. They have meter maids on the gold coast, maybe we could also have registration maids. Sure our society needs to raise money to operate, but if the govenments didn't waste so much they wouldn't have to raise so much even though they keep bleating that it's not revenue raising. How much of yours and my money pays for wasteful government projects. Hopefully soon they'll have a way of tracking cars without dangerously chasing them, maybe by having a form of firearm mounted under the traffic cameras that fire a tracking device or paint ball type tracking substance on to the badguys car. Interesting thing they say here everytime a person gets killed in a car chase is "We called it off as soon as it got dangerous". As soon as you start a pursuit it is dangerous, the fact that a chase has already started means the stage is already set for a bad outcome. Even my dad used to say they have to chase them they can't let them get away. I wonder how he'd feel if it was me that was killed, just because they were chasing somone who broke the speed limit. It's just human instict to not want to get caught. It's always easy to stand back and comment either way in these discussions, but wait 'til it's on your door step. Would you want the police to chase a car if it meant the life of a pregnant woman and her baby (which has happened) or the many other innocent people killed as a result of car/motorbike chases. I think most of us would say no. A lot of times the consequences don't fit the crime. Everything we do in our society is done at the back end. If measures were put into place at the front end maybe some of the problems wouldn't exist. How many people in Australia commit suicide every year - thousands, let alone cigarette and alcohol related deaths. We don't focus as much on the cause as we do trying to repair the damage. And this costs the country a fortune. Our police are trained to use guns tazers capsicum spray and brute force. I've watched many a documentary where tranquilisers bring down rhinos and lions, etc, makes them a lot easier to handle. Do this in the right situations and you might remove a lot of the ugliness.
  17. And what if the car was left there because maybe 1 day after the rego ran out the wheels were about to fall off because its safety check was overdue by a couple of days. Say you have ZERO insurance according to the 2nd "Did you know" point in the above post. Well I wouldn't want to be leaving my pride and joy unattended out on the road for any length of time especially with no insurance. We all make mistakes, but for being human we have to get hit hard because taking your hard earned money will eliminate human error. $600.00 is a hefty price to pay and could have bought a lot of nice things for your kid or it could meant a very lean Christmas. Maybe there should be some sort of exemption made that allows people to drive straight home or 'til midnight giving them a once off CTP cover and when they pay the CTP it is backdated to the expiry date of your registration. That would be fair in my eyes but imagine all of the $600 fines that wouldn't be issued. The government would collapse. The average person forgetting is a bit different to a deliberate non-payer. Them and people who don't have insurance shouldn't be on the road. They are the people that need to be hard hit, maybe by confiscating their car. We've had several incidents in SA of people causing serious road crashes (loss of life) who are unlicensed, unregistered, uninsured and drunk - basically no hopers.
  18. In SA next year the proposal is to have no displayed rego stickers. So you won't even be able to go out to the car and have a quick check while at work. Then you'll see a few more people get done. Apparently people here are already getting booked by the overhead number plate recognition cameras. I reckon thats great to catch the evaders but not so good for the innocents who have slipped up and don't catch it in time before a camera. There'll be about zero leniency there. Just a point of interest. I pay my insurance policies (cars and house) monthly via direct debit. I never run the risk of driving uninsured. I then cancel a policy when I sell the car. Simple and fool proof. Why can't rego be the same. You never forget to pay and you don't get fined. But would they want that. I'm a genius! i think I'll submit that idea somewhere and see what response it gets. Mind you, they'd probably charge a higher administration fee to do it.
  19. Excellent post rb26zed on what can happen in the real world without being nasty about it. Obviously those guys were out for a bit of fun at somebody elses expense. Too bad if they made you late for something important. As far as a warning for leaving a window down, is that the best they could come up with. You're lucky they didn't defect you on suspicion. They don't realise or care that their little jolly can have a domino effect on several peoples lives. When my son came home at 12:15am when he was supposed to be staying at a mates place my wife and I were almost in panic mode because we thought something really bad had happened. That sooned turned to anger and a sleepless night when we found out how our son was treated, what the defect was for and that the cop smiled as he did it. Driving on the roads is a bit like lambs to the slaughter, you never know when you number comes up but if it does you just have to be polite and cop it sweet, and accept that they are making our roads safer. I can see that one day the people will rise and stand up to the carry on in the name of road safety. but it could get ugly. At the moment will are still all individuals who are easy to divide and conquer. We need more people who carry some weight to get into politics and change things back to reality or focus on the real issues that matter. We need more Nick Xenephons. But he even fights a loosing battle against casinos. Don't suppose it has anything to do with the governments cut of the profits, a bit like the taxes on cigarettes and alcohol or people who pay more rego on V8's for some unjustified reason.
  20. What they charged you with was a $600.00 dollar spotters fee. I bet you registered it the very next day, and I bet you would've even without the fine. I don't know how many times I've remembered at the last minute, or even after the expiry date and thought how lucky I was that I didn't drive it. I only just did it last week. Even after I had just done my sons car. The rego on my 4wd ran out one day, I didn't drive it the next and remembered the rego while laying in bed the night after and did it on line the next morning. I didn't need a $600 fine to remind me as with most of us it is not deliberate a cution is all that is erequired and especially nocompassion from a female officer. Oh well she did her job well, in someones eyes. Also in SA they tell us that even when the rego runs out the compulsory 3rd party bodily insurance has a grace period of 2 weeks. That's why when you let the rego lapse you have to pay an extra fee to reset it to start from the current date or register it from the expiry date and sacrifice the previous 2 weeks you may not have driven the car for. On the odd occasion I've watched the New Zealand TV police patrol show in which they book people for all sorts of things including expired rego and would you believe it, in front of the cameras they told the guy to drive straight home. Maybe if it is like here and the insurance is still there for a couple of weeks after reg expiry it doesn't matter. Once they've fined you, so what if you drive straight home, unless NSW is different. Also is there one fine for expired rego and one for expired CTP.
  21. And even though some cops will issue issue defect notices for it, pod filters are legal in Sth Aus so long as they are secured by brackets, although I don't know if you can drill mounting holes anywhere because you might weaken the car. Anyhow, if you get defected, you can't drive to work or anywhere until it's removed, you have to waste time getting the defect off whenever you can book it in for, and have to pay app $150.00 inspection fee for your trouble. Good system, load up the inspection station for things that are a waste of everyones time and could most likely be sorted at the local police station. A bit more education for the issuing officers could save a lot of people a lot of wasted time and money. And when I rang Regency Park inspection station they told me FMIC's were ok as well, yet guys here get defected for them. The rule on front mounts is thet they are ok so long as you dont modify the panel you mount to. So is it just rules for the sake of rules/control, so somebody can say "Look what a good job we're doing making all these rules which make our roads safer." A friend of ours got done for taking her seat belt off as she drove into her driveway. She claims she was actually in her property before she unclipped it. Never the less it is a bit trivial, but expensive. Once again no warning just a fine and a few points. I am seriously considering getting my GTR engineered when it comes out of compliance. But even that probably won't stop an enthusiastic officer. He/she could argue that the wheels on the car may not be those mentioned in the report. Or I could carry extracts from the rule book covering the mods to my car, but they could say they may not be authentic, you'd better go for an inspection just to make sure. The big thing is with defects is if you have a car that fits in, doesn't attract attention for any reason and you're not a P plater or young you'll probably never get pulled over.
  22. I believe this quote from NISMO sums it up pretty well. And we should all agree that the police force is acting on orders and told to enforce the laws. They themselves(in general) are not happy about some of their guidelines, but if they all came in from their shift with no defects or infringement notices they'd be told they aren't doing their job properly. We know that a lot of it is revenue raising especially when our SA treasurer, the Honourable Kevin Foley, has outlined his methods for making up the budget shortfall, and one of them is to raise the penalty for speeding offences. He told us in his budget speech to consider it a voluntary donation. (What a privilege and absolute honour to be able to take that opportunity should we decide to accept!)
  23. Sure cops have to deal with a lot of unsavoury people and see and do a lot of things that a lot of us wouldn't want to deal with, and have to deliver bad news to families about their loved ones, but that doesn't mean it's ok to treat innocent people like scum just because of what somebody else did. Nurses paramedics and doctors deal with grief death and even the same mongrels the police deal with but would they take it out on the next patient who comes in, or do they remember why they are there and treat the next patient with the dignity and respect they deserve. It's called professional conduct. We're all human beings and we all have lives to live and we all have to deal with our own personal gief. Why do some cops aggravate people for trivial little things. Sure do your job, but don't be on a power trip. If you can't come down to earth and get real you're in the wrong job. No parent likes to see their kids get picked on for nothing. One thing I will say again is that even some of the police I've spoken to in the last few days agree they have an element amongst them that give them all a bad name. A policeman has great power, but with great power comes great responsibility. I want my kid to be able to look up to and respect police, not despise them because he's been harrassed, just because he's young and in the wrong place at the wrong time. My wife told a friend about what happened to our son, and she told us to tell our son to not hang around Gawler because the cops there are real cops. That's not bad considering her partner is a cop, and we know him as well because they used to come around our place regularly. So my wife and I aren't cop haters, we just don't like a certain element that are not professional and thrive on making others lives miserable, just because they can. Also I haven't been defected for something like 35 years but I bet you my sons car is more roadworthy than a couple of my current clunkers, especially now we've done a bit more work on it. But I'm sure if he's in the wrong place at the wrong time again he'll get pulled over in his stock Camira and given the treatment simply because he's a young p plater.
  24. Sure there are kids who sit in the park and annoy everybody around them. My son and his mates were the only ones there as it was late evening (11.30pm) does that make it right to defect his car because of somebody elses carry on. Things have to be put into perspective, just the same as don't tarnish everyone with the same brush, be it a kid in the park doing no harm or a policeman who is doing his job in a fair and just manner. If a kid is in the park being a nuisance ask him to move on, don't defect his car just because he's a kid in the park and show yourself to be a bully on a power trip. I got defected plenty of times as a youth, mostly wide wheels and exhaust, but not by power tripping egomaniacs. What's more its not just us on the forums that have this opinion on some officers, even the Snr Sgt I spoke to, about my sons run-in with the law, told me straight out that they have a few officers in the 'force that make it look bad for everyone. Are you going to say he doesn't know what he's talking about and that he has it all wrong. He didn't give me a sob story about all the good work they do to try and justify what happened, it was actually an apology for what happened and he assuered me he would be talking to the officer in question and that we(my son) would not be targeted because of it. You can't ask much more than that. The senior Sgt his offsider and my local cop(with friendly advice) were all perfect gentleman about the incident and bent over backwards to help me. The Snr Sgt even removed the defect for a small fee after I gave the engine a quick clean at the carwash. My local cop even said he could extend the driving hours on the defect so my son could get to work. How friendly's that. They're not all nasty egotists. Some want to help improve community relations and gain respect as law enforcement officers, not hatred. The Snr Sgt also said people who commit/get done for traffic infingements cop it worse than criminals and he/they arent happy about a lot of things they have to police but it can be done in a fair and reasonable manner. I will be fitting the already purchased rocker cover gasket on the weekend.
