  1. Just because police are there to do all the not so pleasant things does not make it ok for other officers to brighten their day by ruining another persons day, by costing them a heap of money, possibly their licence and in this case possibly her job. Drivers, especially young ones seem to be fair game. Put a P plate on the car and you might as well have a target on it. My son got defected even when he wasn't driving his car. They asked him how he got to where he was, asked him where his car was, and then went over and defected it for a major oil leak, which was just a weeping rocker gasket. All he was doing was sitting in a park with 3 mates eating their Mcdonalds. Th officer rubbed his hands together and smiled as he was looking for a fault. This is seriously overstepping the mark and abusing a position of authority. This absolutely kills public relations and will tempt people to run for it every time they see a cop car. It's not just the defect it's a lot of money to go through Regency inspection, especially for a kid. Just because an officer has been to deliver bad news to a family doesn't give him the right to ruin another families life. by this I mean my son gets defected, can't drive his car 'til the defect is cleared be it days or weeks, has to pay $148.00 for the inspection, which his parents will have to pay, and possibly then have to repair anything else they find wrong. In the meantime he can't get to his part time job, of a few hours a week that he just got, due to no public transport in our area and loses his only income. We then as parents possibly have to buy him another car ( he has no money as a student) because the inspectors have been picky and made it financially unviable to put his car back on the road. And I have seen cases where they just nitpick and give people the run around, and they all justify it by saying they are just doing their job. But of course we all know that an oily rocker cover makes him a killer on the road. He also assures me he did evrything the officer asked and was polite.
  2. Does he get defected every time. If he has to go to Regency each time it must cost him a fortune. Why do they clog up regency and not just send offenders to a copshop for minor things. BTW Import S13 just quoted a 5 week wait for Regency.
  3. Now it makes sense! I asked about the time wait beacause I have my GTR in compliance awaiting the paperwork to come from Canberra. As if that's not taking long enough, how much more time gets added on when they book it into regency. I was just at sprint auto parts and I was told that regency was booked out 'til December. Obviously the police are doing a great job out there. A couple of nights ago, my son wasn't even driving his car, but they got him to show them where his car was then they gave him a defect for a MAJOR oil leak and told him to go to Regency. I was a little angry (actually very upset) about this and after ringing my local police station and then Gawler, the Senior Sgt told me to bring the car in for him to look at. He agreed that the leak weas trivial (just a weeping rocker gasket), got me to give the engine a wash at the Gawler carwash and bring it back. It still cost me 26.50 plus a quick wash, but that was far better than the alternative. He agreed the issuing officer was not doing anything to help PR, and he would be spoken to. The Sgt assured me(and my son) we would not be targeted because of this.Time will tell. The thing is my son was doing nothing wrong, let alone not even driving at the time. He was eating McDonalds in a park with his mates and causing no trouble nor did he smart mouth the police. And when he asked how he was supposed to get to work, one of the police shook his head and said that once this goes to Regency he wouldn't get it back on the road. It's an 88 Camira with less than 75,000 kM. But they just love doing their job so well. The cop even rubbed his hands together and smiled as he looked under the bonnet. This is a really great first experience with SA's finest for my son and his 3 mates. The only saving face here was that the Sergeant and his associate and the local Two Wells cop (who I rang first) were very friendly and understanding and helpful, even though I believe it should have been thrown in the bin, but I didn't push the point. When talking to the guys in at Sprint tonight the lad there said he avoided Gawler becauser of the harrassment. Some of these cops get off on ruining peoples lives. They couldn't care less if you lose your job because you live in an area with no public transport. They're just doing their job. Another comment the Sergeant made to me was that people with cars cop it worse than criminals and that there are a lot of things they are not happy about enforcing, but they are acting under guidelines, which I guess are set by our politicians. But we know there are a few who just love it and get their jollies making our lives miserable, just like the minority of 'ratbag' drivers that make us all targets.
  4. I meant how long from when you rang to book the car in to the actual date. What do they charge each time you have to get it checked. Also, did you have it registered and why did you have to go to regency. If it hadn't been complied before how did you register it.
  5. I believe the bottom line is "they have to have everything as per original" for compliance. It looks you haven't got a set of tk rims anyhow even if he did confirm the plate match, so you need to get/borrow a set of original 17" GTR rims just for the compliance. Once you've made them happy, you can do the 18's provided they are no more than 1" wider and add no more than 26mm on the track and not change the rolling diameter of the tyres by more than 15mm. BTW what was the original waiting time to get into regency and how long do you have to wait each successive time. Also I have heard of people going back to regency after fixing their first lot of items and then they find more faults to fix and then again more faults to fix. This may be if you don't get the same inspector each time.
  6. I don't think this question has been asked. Will the lenses they make for the carbon fibre set up fit our existing lights or will they only fit their own design. I'm sure there'll be plenty of people after lenses only. If they're not the same as our original lenses can they make a glass replacement. Either way, can we get a price on replacement lenses for the factory light assembly.
  7. I rang regency a couple of days ago and pretty much had the 2/3 of original travel and min. of 100 clearance confirmed. Yet you can be defected under suspicion and have your time and money wasted. If you go to regency and get cleared with no changes, apparently you still have to pay the fee and take it up with the police. Maybe it can somehow be taken up with the police first before you spend time and money at regency. I've heard of a defect being pulled by the duty sergeant at a police station for a guy who was defected for having his 350Z 2mm too low. I believe the ride height is for a fully laden vehicle.
  8. I hit a big hole on the Old Pt. Wakefield road near Virginia a few years ago in my XR8. Went to the Playford Council and the guy there said get a quote for the two rims, which i got from Ford at app. $600.00 each. I took the quote and the wheels to the guy and he authorised a check for me with which I went out and bought 4 second hand rims with tyres. That section between Virginia and Pt. weakefield road has actually been repaired, but there are plenty more rim busters around that way. The thing is they don't just bend rims, they destroy all the suspension and how can you put in a claim for waht is accelerated wear and tear. A friend also tore off her exhaust on an exposed steel water works cover in the Virginia Post Office car park and the Playford council coughed up for the repair bill. But many years later there has been no maintainance and the steel covers are way above ground level again. This car park is 4WD territory. The council has very recently done some very large patch work sections on Heaslip road near the Gawler River but they have left as many pot holes as they repaired, and when they do patch the individual holes the fill just vibrates out in a very short period, especially when it's wet. Even if you don't bend a rim you can easily knock out the wheel alignment which is another expense and time waster, which my wife and I have done on more than one occasion. Also you don't always swerve in time to miss them let alone if there is an approaching vehicle and/or the occasional pushbike in the way. I don't want to hit one of these holes with my BBS rims at 100kph. at 2k plus per rim I won't be a happy chappy.
  9. I suggested to Wesfarmers that I would be happy to do a bundle with them (House, contents and a couple of cars), but I kept getting told NO. Even a rating 1 for the last 9 years didn't help.
  10. Just rang Wesfarmers again. Andrew Harris is on leave so his mobile went straight to reception. Spoke to the receptionist who checked with her superiors, and the story is, "we do not insure modified vehicles", sorry, but this guy must be pulling your leg. She even read the clauses from their policy guidelines. which included no mods to suspension, engines, wheels and further down the list was no track cars. Oh well consider yourself very lucky to be "in". Looks like I'll stay with Shannons at $850.00.
  11. Maybe they've tightened up. They left the "can't Insure" message on my phone with a number to ring back. I'll ring back, but can't see the decision changing.
  12. I rang Wesfarmers and they are not interested unless you have a business going through them plus house insurance They said they will only do it in a package deal. They put me on to OAMPS( which is a company under them) who took all my particulars and car details and came back with a no can do, because of the type of car. Mine is an R33 GTR and I'm 55.
  13. Just to expand on that last statement about speed being a factor. That doesn't necessarily mean the speed limit was being broken. So my point is, if speeding under the speed limit (ie too fast for the conditions and or driver skill level) is a factor, what difference do speed cameras make if the majority of accidents/fatalities are actually under the speed limit. From info I have read, only a very small percentage of road deaths are above the speed limit and that includes police chases and suicides and drag races. Who in a car chase is going to slow for a speed camera. What do they do to help prevent deaths on our country roads from drowsiness and crossing the centreline and having head-ons. How about putting the strips that vibrate your car, on all road edges and centrelines not just some (in South Australia). They sure let you know when you veer offline. I reckon there would be more deaths there than from people who who break the speed limit to overtake a slow-poke or truck on a long safe stretch of road. Try working out the distance it takes to pass a truck doing 100k's if you stick to, depending where you are, the state limit of 110k's. It's over a kilometre depending on truck length and whatever gaps you have before and after the manouvre. Now if somebody does the same thing from the opposite direction, you have both started the manouvre at a distance apart of greater than 2k's and it could be up to 3k's. Who can see that far ahead? I certainly can't. I have heard of some cops turning blind eyes to certain speeds when overtaking because they are smart enough to see the stupidity in going "slow" in. Yet others set there traps on the long straight sections where it is safe to pass. Especially if it's a truck or slowpoke who holds you up on hills and bends. Cops even set up on the passing lanes. where if you didn't go a bit quicker only one car gets to overtake. And they never get the driver that speeds up on the overtaking section just so you can't pass him. I wish I had a dollar for every time that's been done to me. I was following a driver for ages who was sitting 5-10k's under the speed limit and when I started overtaking he sped up to 120k's. Therefore I ended up doing about 140 so I, and the car behind me, could get past. We just made it before the end of the overtaking section. I could have slowed down and been ticked off and then the driver coming up behind me who had also been held up by this guy would have been ticked off. I know the powers say being held up by 5-10kph is nothing but get caught going over the limit by 5-10kph and its something, and costs $$$$. Not that I have an opinion or anything. Thats my little rant for now. There are some interesting facts/figures out there and it seems to be similar for several countries (Aus USA England). Some people twist the figures however to justify their cause, and you can't argue because they may be partly right.
  14. I've had the same personalised plates on two diff. cars and all I did each was fill out a form stating the old plate number and what the new one was to be. Each time I kept the original state plates and when I sold the cars I filled out the appropriate paper work and I bolted back the original plates that I had kept at home. After selling the last car a few months ago I kept my personalised plates which are still sitting in my shed. Nobody asked for them to be handed back in. This is in Sth Aus. The thing in my original post was that I went in to pick up my new plates that EZYreg let me order and pay for. I was just surprised I couldn't have them after making a special trip in to pick them up. Maybe I missed the fine print on their website.
  15. As I'm thinking about this I remember there was an option to have these plates delivered to my home address. Maybe if I chose that option, I would now have them in my hot little hands. EDIT I just tried a dummy run using my address for delivery and not filling in the existing plate information and it wouldn't let me continue with "our agreement".
  16. By putting in the order in you can at least secure the plate number even if you can't pick them up. On the EZYREG site in SA just leave out the details of the "Old Registration Number" I'll be making a phone call tomorrow to find out if what I was told was correct. If I knew I couldn't pick them up I wouldn't have wasted my time going there, that's what really ticked me off. At least I got to see them...GTR-333 maroon on white. They looked nice for the short time they were in my sight. I should have grabbed them and done a runner.
  17. I ordered a set of personalised plates through EZYREG in SA, and when I went in to pick them up, I was asked what vehicle they were going on. When I told her I didn't yet have the car she said "then you can't have the plates". Even though I have paid for them she said the agreement was that they were to go on a car. How come then, the website let me order and pay without putting in any vehicle particulars. Mind you I've kept the personalised plates off my previous car and have not heard a squeak out of the rego dept for 3 months.
  18. Just to add a little info: In my search for knowledge i found www.nissanskyline.com/r33.html which states - The R33 GTR shared the same manual g/box as the R32 GTR, although the synchros were made stronger.
