  4. Paul di Resta has been excluded from qualifying at the British Grand Prix after his Force India was found to be under the minimum weight limit. The Scot had secured fifth on the grid at Silverstone but his car came in 1.5kg underweight in post-qualifying scrutineering. Even with a mandatory fuel sample on board, the car weighed only 641.5 kg - which is 0.5 kg below the minimum weight. After the FIA drained the car of fuel, it was found it weighed just 640kg, two kilogrammes under the limit. With a 0.5kg tolerance accepted for the scales' accuracy, it was ruled that the car was officially 1.5kg underweight. After the matter was referred to the race stewards, it was decided that the team had been in breach of the regulations and di Resta was thrown out of the results. He can now start the British GP from the back of the grid. It is understood the issue revolved around the weight of di Resta himself after qualifying - as the driver and car are combined to reach the 642kg limit. There are suggestions that di Resta's weight check at the end of qualifying was 1.5kg below his normal weight - which he had been after free practice. Although some consideration was given to appealing the matter because of the discrepancy, Force India in the end has decided to accept the verdict - meaning di Resta will start his home race last. http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/108426 Pos Driver Team/Car 1. 7. Q&A with mark webber Following the announcement that Mark Webber has signed with Porsche to join their WEC and Le Mans 24 Hr team campaign in 2014 and beyond, www.markwebber.com asked him the burning questions: Why have you made the decision to join Porsche in the WEC at the end of the season? MW: The timing is perfect to join a fresh programme. It’s a sensational challenge and opportunity for my future to work with one of the most famous marques in motorsport. How do you feel about returning to Le Mans after what happened in 1999? MW: I accept that motor racing is dangerous but Le Mans is one of the most famous circuits in the world and to be honest, I still see it as unfinished business and I want to do well there. Le Mans can be cruel as we’ve just seen, but it’s incredibly rewarding and that’s part of the allure. Did the events of the Malaysian GP (or other well documented inter-team incidents) influence your decision/make your mind up? MW: No, I’ve had a personal plan and I’ve stuck to it. This is the next chapter. Were you pressured or encouraged to leave RBR by the team or was it purely your decision? MW: I never asked the team for more work but I’ve remained in touch with Dietrich Mateschitz over the last six to eight months and he’s been absolute quality for me. Going forward I will remain tightly inside the Red Bull family, working with the brand, and watching and supporting fellow Red Bull athletes push the boundaries. You are one of the oldest drivers on the grid, has your age affected your driving and was this a consideration in your decision to leave? MW: Of course you want to do your whole F1 career at the age of 25. Ask any sportsman or woman in their mid to late thirties and they will tell you that things don’t become any easier. That’s just a fact of professional sport. Did you have options to stay in F1? MW: Yes but since Formula One as a category wasn’t on my radar for 2014, they weren’t a consideration for me. Will you rule out a return to F1 should another opportunity present itself in the future? MW: I’d say it’s extremely unlikely, particularly given the new direction the category is going in. You would be out of touch very quickly. Finally, what will miss about Formula One? MW: I realise F1 is seen as the absolute pinnacle of motorsport and I’ve worked with some incredible people, in particular Adrian Newey. I’ve driven in some of the toughest and most challenging conditions and circuits, and against some incredible drivers which I’ll continue to do until the end of the year. Will I miss some of this? Yes, of course, but time doesn’t stand still for anyone and it’s time to move on to my next challenge. http://www.markwebber.com/on-the-track-news/2013-season/mark-webber-qa-2014-and-beyond/
  8. I don't think mark wants to drive in f1 any more mostly due to the tyres changing/dictating the racing.

  11. Lotus owner Genii Capital has sold a 35 per cent stake in the team to new investor Infinity Racing. After a long-running effort to find suitable partners, Genii boss Gerard Lopez has agreed that the Infinity Racing group - made up of private investors from America, Abu Dhabi and an unidentified oil producing nation – will take a minority shareholding. Lopez will remain chairman of the Lotus team, with Eric Lux, who is CEO of Genii Capital, continuing on the team's Board of Directors. http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/108129 Mercedes confirmed on Tuesday that Ross Brawn will represent the team at the FIA International Tribunal which meets on Thursday to decide whether the Brackley-based outfit had contravened the sport's rules during an unscheduled tyre test. http://www.planetf1.com/driver/18227/8781563/Brawn-to-represent-Mercedes methinks it will be like Larry Perkins V the rule makers. Ross and Mercedes will be cleared.

  15. Every track day I've been to segregates drivers based on speed/skill. I haven't seen that yet, I have been at the track testing at speed off the street days with "professional" drivers in real race cars on two different occasions both times they put in with the people that drove their cars to the track, one of the drivers was like WTF? management said if you want your own time then pay for it. When I went down to winton to crew for a f3 in the vic state round they put formula vee, formula fords and formula three's all together on the track at the same time for all the practices…
  16. No such thing as different classes at track days (unless you pay for there to be or you hire the track and set it up).But that looks like it was a speed off the street day to me.
  17. It's like 2012 all over again..

  20. Thailand's plans to host a Formula 1 grand prix have hit trouble after Bangkok officials banned racing in the city's historic quarter. Authorities said in April that a 5.995km circuit would be created near the Royal Thai Naval Dockyard in Bangkok, with the hope of landing a deal to host a Formula 1 race in 2015. The track would have run past the Grand Palace, the Temple of Dawn and Victory Monument. The plans, however, have suffered a setback after Bangkok's Metropolitan Authority passed a law that bans racing in the area. "The law came into effect on May 16 prohibiting car racing in inner Bangkok because that area is a conservation for culture and arts," Kriangphon Pattanarat, director general of city planning department told AFP. It is still unknown whether another location is being considered for the circuit. http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/107905
  21. Christian Horner has revealed that Red Bull Racing turned down the opportunity to test with Pirelli as they felt it "wasn't in line" with the rules. "We believe it is the responsibility of the entrant to comply with the regulations, so when it came to light that a test with the current car had taken place, or interpretation of the rules was that that was in clear breach of them, therefore we raised a protest prior to the race for it to be dealt with by the FIA," he said during Friday's FIA press conference. "It is really an issue between the team and the FIA and obviously Pirelli have asked several teams to test - ourselves included - but we have declined to do so as we felt it wasn't in line with the regulations, certainly with the current car. So that is the situation, it has gone to the tribunal and we trust the FIA to make the appropriate decision regarding it. "The important thing is that there needs to be absolute clarity in what you can do and what you can't do, what I testing and what isn't testing and I think that that is more crucial than anything to be fully resolved." The Red Bull team boss also claimed that there was no way Mercedes did not get an advantage over their rivals despite the team's insistance that they did not. "I think that whenever you have limited testing with the rules written as they are, then when you run a current car with the way the amount of technology and the way the amount of data analysis there is you are always learning - whether it is reliability, whether it be endurance, whether it be performance. "So of course even if you are testing a component for another supplier you are learning. Formula 1 has moved an awfully long way over the last few years to ensure fairness and equality to all of the entrants and I think if a team does carry out an extra 1000km with a current car then you are going to learn something." http://www.planetf1.com/driver/18227/8764261/-Red-Bull-declined-Pirelli-test- Paul Hembery will not face the media in Montreal on Friday afternoon as he has withdrawn on advice from Pirelli's legal team. http://www.planetf1.com/driver/18227/8764099/Hembery-withdraws-from-press-conf P1 Times 01. 22. Mercedes referred to International Tribunal over tyre test row An FIA statement said: "In the light of all the replies received and in view of the information gathered during this inquiry, the president of the FIA, acting as the FIA prosecuting body, has decided: "To close the case as regard to Scuderia Ferrari Team considering that its participation in a tyre test organised by Pirelli in Barcelona on 23-24 April 2013 using for this purpose a 2011 car is not deemed to contravene the applicable FIA rules. "To bring the case concerning the tyre testing session carried out by Pirelli and Team Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 in Barcelona on 15-17 May 2013 before the FIA International Tribunal because it results from the inquiry that the conditions of this testing may constitute a breach of the applicable FIA rules. "The FIA International Tribunal is called upon to make a decision in compliance with the FIA Judicial and Disciplinary Rules." http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/107882
