Formula 1's teams have been told by the FIA that they cannot run trick brake systems that react to temperature to improve cooling during races, following a complaint by Red Bull. AUTOSPORT can reveal that Red Bull wrote to motor racing's governing body ahead of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix to seek clarification on the use of thermal energy devices within the air duct of the brake system. The team contended that attempts to use either a bimetallic strip - which would change shape to open and close off cooling ducts depending on the temperature of the brake friction material - or a thermal actuator was a breach of the regulations. In the letter, a copy of which has been seen by AUTOSPORT, Red Bull argued: "Use of such technology via either of the examples offered or similar devices will change the brake system, thus including the air duct, and are not reacting to the driver's direct physical input and are not under his complete control at all times as required by Article 11.1.4 [of the F1 technical regulations]. "RBR therefore contend such systems are in breach of the 2012 F1 Technical Regulations and seek your opinion on the matter." Article 11.1.4 of the regulations states: "Any change to, or modulation of, the brake system whilst the car is moving must be made by the driver's direct physical input, may not be pre-set and must be under his complete control at all times." The FIA duly responded to Red Bull on Friday confirming that it agreed with its view that the use of such systems would be a breach of the rules. In a letter that was forwarded to all teams and seen by AUTOSPORT, the FIA's Charlie Whiting said: "In our view movement of a bimetallic strip and thermal actuator within the air duct as you describe would not be made by the driver's direct physical input, hence we believe such a system would contravene Article 11.1.4 of the F1 Technical Regulations." AUTOSPORT understands that Red Bull's complaint was made after suspicions that at least one of its rival teams was using the concept on its car. However, high levels sources at Red Bull's main rivals insist that they have never used the concept and agree that doing so would be a breach of the rules. Red Bull's dialogue with the FIA shows how focused the outfit is on ensuring that it maintains every possible competitive advantage as it makes a push to win its third consecutive championship double. http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/103958 Paul di Resta has switched to a new chassis in Abu Dhabi in a bid to move on from the 'fundamental' issue which had blighted his last few races. http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/103959

in all seriousness i know exactly what i'd do with 100mil and it's somethink i've been thinking about for a while now. i would start a not for profit but not just any not for profit, instead of basing it's income on donations from private individuals like most not for profits i would start a pharmaceutical company with the goal being for the pharmaceutical company to fund a) medical research, b) medical schools, c) medical school grants (to improve their teaching efficacy and facilities), d) medical school scholarships for poeple that can't afford to go, c) give life saving drugs to people that can't afford them and lastly offer medical care to those who don't have access it. the goal for the pharmaceutical side of the not for profit would be to offer the best quality drugs for the lowest possible price. i believe that with this strategy i can turn that 100mil that would help several thousand people into several trillion dollars that would save billions. i'd also like to get my skylines on the road again (nothing crazy just good street cars), a because race car, i need a new car and a trd 86 sounds good to me, house (maybe one that has its own airport for teh skidz) and once that's all done i'd really like to fulfill my dreams and design and build my own engine.

Red Bull expects Mark Webber to do what is best for the team if circumstances dictate that he needs to help Sebastian Vettel. With the championship battle distilling down to a straight fight between Vettel and Fernando Alonso, Webber could play a crucial role in the outcome of the title battle. But although Red Bull will not impose any direct orders on Webber until he is mathematically out of the championship hunt, team principal Christian Horner said on Thursday that he has no doubts the Australian knows what is expected of him. "Mark is a strong competitor and he is a big team player," explained Horner. "I am quite convinced that he will want to see the team achieve its best possible results. "I am sure as a team player, if required, he will do everything to support the team. "Mathematically now it is very difficult for him to win the championship and he is a smart guy. He has been an important part of the team and I have every confidence that he will be doing his best to help the team achieve its objectives for the championship." When asked to expand on whether any direct instructions have been given to Webber, Horner said: "I think you can talk about so many scenarios and then a scenario you haven't talked about is the one that comes up. "Mark is a bright guy, and he has been around a long time. He is a key member of the team and I think that he will be able to do his best. "His primary objective is to make sure we achieve the constructors' championship and for us that we have got both drivers ahead of Fernando [Alonso]. "He was desperately unlucky last week not to keep Fernando behind after having to run reduced power and KERS for most of the race. So he will be driving his best to ensure that we have got two Red Bulls right up the front end." http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/103916

Force India is my bet for jaime as i don't see him as a 'pay driver' instead more of a 'paid driver' after his rant on williams (about pay drivers) which is also another team i'd like to see him race for with maldonado.

draft one. Ban layne beachley from attending the event and never give her a mic at a motorsport event ever again (and someone inform her that a race isn't called a match it's call a race). less interviews with d list celebritys/ people from masterchef and other reality tv stars and more interviews with race car drivers (former or current) such as Brabham, Hulme, Perkins, Shenkin, webber, Ricciardo and some information/facts about the cars they drove/drive as well as what/who they were up against. Show the history the sport and Australian contribution to it, interview the Australians in the pits working for various teams and show the Aussies behind the scenes (Sam michael ect). No more people from the breakfast show (seriously Paul Henry is more annoying then Kochie is) wait..... infact you should put Paul in a two seat f1 car, The amusement would go some way to make up for the torture we suffered in 2012. The celebrity race prizes should be awarded as per the rules set out by the WANKR motoring occasion regarding prizes. They're as follows. First will receive a case of beer. Second will receive a case of beer. Third will receive a case of beer. Forth to last will receive a case of vb........... to encourage them to do better next time. did i miss anything?

It will be a case of as you were at Toro Rosso next season after the team confirmed Jean-Eric Vergne and Daniel Ricciardo. Ricciardo had a stint with HRT last year before moving to Toro Rosso for the 2012 campaign. "I am really pumped to know that I am continuing with Scuderia Toro Rosso for another season and want to thank the team and Red Bull," Ricciardo said. "There are big expectations for next year and I'm ready and willing to fulfil them. "I feel I have been growing and developing as a driver and my approach to the technical side of the sport has also progressed this year, so I am sure that will serve me well in my second season with Toro Rosso. "We have had quite a tough season, but despite that, I have always enjoyed a good relationship with all the guys and I am delighted at the idea of working with them for another year." Team boss Franz Tost added: "Both drivers have done a good job this season. Daniel joined us with a few grands prix under his belt and so his feedback and experience was particularly useful while Jean-Eric got up to speed, often having to deal with tracks he had never seen before. http://www.planetf1.com/news/3213/8215204/STR-Retain-Vergne-Ricciardo
