  1. well that took me about an hour to read this thread! I've used toluene a few times in the car, and can certainly feel the difference.
  2. doh... i did a search for piston damage and forgot it was the search list!!! I thought i was in the forsale section!!! (I've got two IE windows open for the forums)
  3. I could possibly be after pistons. I'll just have to check mine and see how many i need I have a feeling my oil usage problem is piston related, not valve/head related but i'll check the head tomorrow. I'm tipping i'll need a new set of rings? Any idea where to get them from? How much do you want for them? Cheers, Andrew
  4. sweet as... i'll give it a go. So looking at it from the front of the engine you turn the nut anti-clockwise. I would have thought to undo it you turn it the same way as the cam turns (which i assume is a clockwise engine rotation). Thanks Andrew
  5. what's fuel consumption???
  6. as it's the inlet VVT cam you can't get a screw driver through the gap as the variable valve mechanism has a solid cover over the front of the cam
  7. yeah i did the rubber mallet thing but it didn't help. I need to know which way to twist it though. I'm not sure if i should be going anti-clockwise like you normally would to undo something, but normally on rotating parts you undo it the same way it rotates. Thanks for the tip though with the moving of the cam. I'll make sure it doesn't turn too far (it hasn't yet).
  8. I'm trying to get the cams out of my RB25DET (R33 skyline) and can't seem to get the big 19mm bolt undone on the inlet (VVT) cam gear. Am i supposed to twist it the normal way to undo it (clockwise) or the opposite way (anti clockwise)? Am i going about it the right way? or is there some other way of getting it off? Thanks Andrew
  9. It looks like my engine build won't be ready in time for me to put in my car and have some fun. I head over seas in March for an unknown length of time so i'll probably sell my skyline (and all associated turbo equipment/mods). But i'll keep the engine and hopefully put it in a GTR when i get back No point wasting the quality parts as well as time and effort put into the build. I'll just store it till i get home and unleash the fury then!
  10. Good info Warpspeed... thanks for that. That's answered a couple of questions i've had for a while about flow maps. Cheers, Andrew
  11. that's the one... i just looked at some blue and some orange paint and that's what i have too.
  12. You didn't get the transparent paint!!! It basically looks like apple juice, but a different colour. You can see right through it but it's tinted It should do the job though. You can just get another couple of globes for like a buck and use the proper paint next time.
  13. www.yellowpages.com.au is your friend!!! The thing with the model shops is they have clear paints so that light can get through easily. I spose they are for painting the windows or tail/indicators of models
  14. you could just go to a model car/plane shop and get some transparent orange paint. I've done it before. Give it 3 coats, letting it dry between each coat and you should be right.
  15. you can go to the expense of carrillo rods or other aftermarket items which are lighter and stronger, but you really have to make sure you want to make the sort of power that stock rods can't handle as they are generally over $2000 for a good set of rods. and if anyone wants some stock RB30 rods, let me know.
  16. bugger it... i knew i should have done a forum search first to see if i had already posted a topic on this!!! Sure enough i have. Here is the link to the thread if anyone else is interested http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...ead.php?t=14388
  17. Just thought i'd ask if anyone has any tips on removing an RB25DET Cylinder head while the engine is still in the car? I think there is a burnt valve (from compression tests etc). Basically is there any order in which i should pull things off? or maybe a website that gives a rundown? Otherwise i may as well do it in the dark it will certainly be a good learning experience! Thanks in advance. Andrew
  18. you need an aftermarket comp
  19. Do it man... it's the same as replacing the RB25 block, probably cheaper and it will be a torque monster compared to the RB25
  20. used... came out of my car which i upgraded to a twin plate to match all the mods going on and power expectation. I'm not sure about quality, i'd get a new plate for it regardless, as it's already out and much cheaper to do now. Then you've got piece of mind that it's done. I can't seem to attach pics, so leave ya email and i'll send them to you. Andrew
  21. As the subject says, it's standard. $80 Cheers, Andrew
  22. Good condition, nothing wrong with it, just need the space it's taking up Located in Melbourne - It's a non-turbo gearbox $300 Cheers, Andrew
  23. I've got a 1977 Cressida which is no longer needed. It has LPG so cheap to run and also has power steering. It's a good shitbox/runabout car. No rego or rwc. Cheers Andrew
  24. do AU rims fit the R33 GTST? cos i got a mate with some S1 AU XR8 rims that i might make him an offer on...
