  1. Alternate suppliers - plenty of fly-by-nighters that won't be here 12 months from now (my experience from looking into this stuff 4 years ago). We have been looking at a product from Thales-Telematics for our industrial equipment. Communications to security station is via the mobile phone network, but the vehicles are actually tracked by satellite. They have their own back to base system similar to Quiktrak. I did come across other systems that were cheaper but alarmed back to your mobile if something was wrong with your equipment/car, then you would have to sort it out. Trouble with Quiktrak is that they run their own towers, which is great for security, and they can have more control on tracking parameters, but they have more holes in the tracking network because of this, than do the other systems using mobile phone tower/satellite. We looked into many systems about 4 years ago, and the satellite stuff was about $5000 then. Much cheaper now, and about the same price as a Quiktrak.
  2. Quiltrak were in administration. July 22/23 they had a creditors meeting that was to resolve outstanding debts. The company continues to function (tracking etc). Would I spend $2000+ on a Quiktrak unit??? Not till I see where they head. Could also be argued that there are better systems on the market now.
  3. When you say you "won't be paying insurance" do I assume you mean that your parents will be paying that?
  4. Both great cars, with very close times! You can argue the theory as much as you like, but at the end of the day it has to come down to the launch and the driving/dragging ability of the drivers.
  5. I get the impression that the nervous nellies that do 10km/hr under the limit become more confident when the double lanes come up (more road, less claustraphobic), so then they feel more comfortable speeding up (which really bugs the rest of the drivers on the road). The other thing I have noticed (apart from drivers with egos that can't let you go past them as it questions their manhood), is that when some people are overtaken, they suddenyl become more 'awake', realise the are crawling, then speed up - which again, bugs the rest of the other drivers on the road.
