  1. I currently own an FD RX7 after having owned only nissan's for past 9 years (s13,s15,gtst& gtr's). my answer is it depends on what you want it for.... IMO you can use the rx-7 as a daily if your not driving very long dist & if your not over 6''1-6''2 (without having seat rails modified). they are better on petrol than a GTR if you drive both cars easily although not as good as the s15..... performance between an s15 & rx7 is worlds apart...rx7 is better in everyway possible...rx7 is more comparable to a gtr. I use my car 2-3 times a week & have a shitbox for the other days...I could use the rx7 everyday although like a gtr it feels wasted plonking around in traffic.... thus far I have had no issues with reliability. the main catch is that a good rx7 (00-02) rs model will set you back a good 30g or so...s15 prob closer to 20g. send me a pm if you have any other questions
  2. those times sound a fair bit off... my old standard 95GTR managed 13.1@ 104.... maybe without a launch 13.7... in a standing start the GTR would rape an e46 m3
  3. just 1 question... before you decided to spend all this money on your car did you consider selling it and buying a GTR?? I only ask as you seem like you want a car that will go very quick in a straight line.....many gtr's with stock turbos run quicker than 12.2 (my previous car 33gtr ran 11.9 @115 with stock turbos and road tires)...i like what you have done with your car but would love to know your rationale behind sticking with the gtst as by the ammount of you cash you have spent you could have bought a gtr comfortably?

From my experience skylines in general are very reliable... i have owned 3 gtst's and 3 GTR's over the past 9 years... the only things i have ever had to fix are a stuffed synchro in a GTST (my fault), 2 clutches in the GTR's (too many redline launches ) some coil packs in th GTST... non of the caRS where heavily modified so cant commend on maintenance of high powered cars... so like many have suggested get the car checked thoroughly before you buy it and just have a bit of money (or credit card!) handy for unexpected expenses
  5. just saw in one of the latest wheels/motor magazines that the 16oK hsv only manages a 13sec 1/4 mile...this is nowhere near supercar times by anyones standards..sure its rolling acceleration seems good (if you can get traction=which they did mention can be a challenge).. my standard turboed rx7 manages quicker than this regularly. Not worth the money for what your getting, IMO.
  6. was thinking exactly the same thing.... a rwd ford with over 300rwkw would be very tail happy at the best of times...and an absolute pig in the wet... whats the point of having all this power if you have to massage the throttle for the first 2-3 gears... I think an R34 GTR with a decent exhaust, 1-1.2Bar of boost, power FC and a nice single plate clutch (270-290RWKW) would be a fantastic daily driver but still a weapon in every situation. Coming from a rexy i think you will appreciate and enjoy the GTR so much more.

  8. very nice looking GTR. just do a good service, change all the oils, spark plugs etc.. you may need a better clutch if you plan on doing many launches! My previous car an r33 gtr when dead stock (except a better clutch) ran 13.2 @ 104 with shitty tyres.
  9. in my opinion 170k is an insane amount of money for a commodore.... for that sort of money you would expect a car to be built on a totally new platform ground up..like the new gtr. It will be a no contest against the new gtr...ide go as far as saying that an R34 GTR would give it a run for its money. standard turboes with some boost and good tune (260rwkw) would see a 34gtr in high 11's flat 12's territory... I cant imagine this hsv being any quicker (i predict mid 12's consistently at best)...on a track gtr will be quicker and in the wet...well we all know what would happen there. i think this hsv will be closer in performace to a R34 GTR than R35.
  10. i think he means on the stock ceramic turbos...I have seen them doing mid 11's at 18psi...although a bit risky.. all you would need is a decent clutch, power fc, boost controller and maybe a bigger fuel pump/injectors/am AFM and decent rubber...redline clutch dump and hang on!
  11. just pull out the brass restrictor in the hose marked with a yellow band and you will run 14-15 psi. I would get a power FC, front-pipe back exhaust, an oil cooler for the track and better pads and you'll be laughing...250-60rwkw

  14. In some ways the article gives you the impression that the older GTR's are really no good... and although it isnt much compared to the new gtr they are still fantastic performing cars..... imagine a comparo between the 35 gtr and best holden/ford in aus......would be a joke.
