Sideways
Well I just got a dam epa notice in the mail too!!! Had the car since August and already got one last year.... for that one I ony had to take the car to an Exhaust place to have it tested for noise and mail in the certificate (tested at 85db This time it's got to go to Mcload for testing to see it it complies with the "ACT" !! Can anyone guess where I got pinned ? . . . . in bloody Clayton !! (Buckland street) it's not like I can avoid the area - I have work suppliers in the area not to mention friends that live in the area! I remember the time too - the cops already had someone else pulled over as I drove past them so couldn't stop me.... so they just took the rego and epa'd me in the mail..... I also found out that the last owner of my car got an epa notice on the car the day he sold it to Carizma - That epa notice was only lifted because the car was sold... So now it's had 3 notices in the last year Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/10833-bldy-epa-notice/ Share on other sites

SKY031
Originally posted by predator666 ummm..something radical here - you considered a new exhaust? If it tested at 85, and you haven't done anything to it since, then it shouldn't be any louder than most of the cars on the street? This totally sux ass...... I mean, every day I see cars that have plumes of black smoke emitting from them, and I wonder why they don't get reported. Maybe if we take it upon ourselves to start reporting every car we see that is excessively smoking, or has obvious exhaust leaks, then the EPA will be flooded with GENUINE problems and won't have time to bother with people who actually look after their cars Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/10833-bldy-epa-notice/#findComment-176676 Share on other sites

R31Heaven
You will have to carry a Db meter in your car soon so when they pull you up and say your cars to loud, pull it out and say stick this up your ass and show them what it reads:p Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/10833-bldy-epa-notice/#findComment-178355 Share on other sites
Sideways
It turns out that the cop didn't pin me for noise - he wants the car checked to see if it complies with "the act" If it was noise then I could take it to one of the listed Exhaust shops for testing - but this cops is saying (from me driving past him at 50km/h) that my car has some other problem than niose??? I guess blow off valves (of which I only have the std ones) or polution gear or something like that.... I would have thought that he would need to pull me over to see something like that... but I guess not... he must have x-ray vision or something Originally posted by INASNT read my thread i got the same thing! Ring 1 of the exhaust places on the back of the sheet and ask them if they will give u a certificate so u can fax it to the epa! And as for mccloud, tell the epa to get ***ed coz there is another testing station in morrabin u can go to instead of mccloud Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/10833-bldy-epa-notice/#findComment-179017 Share on other sites
Sideways
Originally posted by INASNT as for mccloud, tell the epa to get ***ed coz there is another testing station in morrabin u can go to instead of mccloud I live in East Bentleigh... so Moorabbin would be heaps closer... I will ring them again tomorrow and see what they have to say... By the way I never said my exhaust was still 85db.. just that it tested at 85 db last time It's really about 91db - just over by a bee's you know what... bugger too as it's a 100mm trust system and Jasma muffler with removable siliencer, all held together with V-bands - the last thing I want to do is butcher it, so I would like to just make up a new siliencer insert that brings it down another 2db to around 89db.... How do you think the epa go with mufflers with siliencer tips ?? Are they legal (as long as it's under 90 db with the siliencer fitted) ?? (the exhaust shop test places didn't have a problem with it last time.... but what about epa themselves...) If not then I do have other option, I had some extra V-Band flanges made up (as the Japanise sizes are not available in Aus), so I could someday refit the original hotdog in place of the Cat (for track days only of course ) so I might just have to use one of those flanges and buy a new quiter muffler and fit that in place of the Jasma... I guess blow off valves (of which I only have the std ones) BOVs are actually illegal if they vent to the atmosphere, so if your car goes 'pshhhh' then the cop doesn't need to see under the bonnet to know that you have something under there that you shouldn't have. predator
I think silencers are illegal too as they are an "artificial restricter" or something like that.. it's all farked.. I mean what about trucks, motorbikes and everything else that make all that noise and pollution? and are that small amount of skylines (compared to everything else) really going to be putting out massive amounts of pollution compared to say a 90's commodore?? Its just an excuse to make things difficult, thats all it is. Maybe if we take it upon ourselves to start reporting every car we see that is excessively smoking, or has obvious exhaust leaks, then the EPA will be flooded with GENUINE problems and won't have time to bother with people who actually look after their cars you can actually do that, there is a report hotline... and a notice will be sent to the owner, then again that might make us as bad as everybody else who dobs skyline owners in. It would definitely flood the system if we could put in 5 a day each I'd love doing it to many many commondore drivers..hehe I think they changed the law a while back to allow anybody to make a report, now its all fugged.. predator
all boosted skylines go "pshhhh" even with the standard plumb-back.. 'cause cops are dumb asses they don't actually know enough to tell the difference. Next excessive "revving" will be banned.. eg, you can't go above 4,000rpm on the road... it wouldn't surprise me what they attempt to bring in. predator
If you are annoyed by a particular noisy vehicle in your street, note the registration number and details of the vehicle (make, colour etc.) and ask your nearest police station (traffic operations group) to keep a lookout for the vehicle. If the police consider your complaint is justified, it will report the vehicle to EPA, and the owner will have to present the vehicle to an approved tester. hmmm... maybe not so easy.. i'd say though the cops don't do any form of checking themselves, just pass it straight on - maybe get another station to do it  Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/10833-bldy-epa-notice/#findComment-180160 Share on other sites

I just went and registered.... once they have confirmed my details, they're going to be run off their feet with legitimate 'smoky car' reports!! Yep - I just rang them, they class a siliencer as a "temporary defete device" and they are illegal You can have them as long as they are welded in, and not just spot welded in either, they muist be welded all the way around to be legal... So looks like i'll be needing a new muffler..... Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/10833-bldy-epa-notice/#findComment-180522 Share on other sites
