1. I have been told I can run 1 bar before I will get “boost cut”, is that OK?

2. My mate runs 12 psi and doesn’t get “boost cut” and I run 11 psi and get “boost cut”, why ?

3. Something is wrong with my engine I get “boost cut” at 10 psi ?

4. GTR’s don’t get "boost cut" until 1.1 bar, so why do GTST’s get "boost cut" at 11 psi ?

so instead of all those you will have the same questions, but with 'rich and retard mode' instead of 'boost cut'. no matter what term you use people will still keep asking the questions.

The problem is when someone is told it is a “boost cut” problem the first thing they think is there is some hard and fast boost limit that they can’t exceed

it is a limit that they can't exceed. on that particular car, whatever boost they are at when the r&r mode kicks in, that is the limit as to what they can run. sure they could run a higher boost, but it will cut out earlier. there is no way they can get around it without a fuel cut defender or an ecu upgrade.

also a lot of you make it sound like it just gets sluggish when it happens. it is a harsh stop in power. it is literally as if someone has turned the key off, then immediately turns it back on, and in my case results in wheelspin in the lower gears if i don't lift of the gas quick enough. then it keeps pulling up through the rev range about as hard as usual.

Hey Everyone,

Thanks for your help. So I guess it's a re-map for my friend. Much appreciated

R33’s can’t get REMAPS (easily)

and

is it a sudden stop start, or a flat spot where acceleration slows for a bit. if it is a sudden cut out then it is 'boost cut'. if it is just a slow spot then it could be the cams changing over. there is a thread on it somewhere on here, and how you can change when it does it slightly with an aftermarket ecu.

Maybe you missed it..

maybe you missed my inverted commas. also refering to it as boost cut isn't really any different to giving someone a nick name. if someones name is james and i call them jimmy, i'm not calling him the right name, but everyone would still know who i'm talking about.

That’s exactly the problem, think about this question;

I had the standard turbo at 10 psi with no “boost cut”, why do I get “boost cut” at 10 psi with my new (larger) turbo?

Well that’ because it’s not boost that is the problem, it is excessive airflow. The new (larger) turbo flows more air at 10 psi than the standard turbo. The only fix is an AFM voltage bender, rechip (if possible) or aftermarket ECU.

But everyone told me it was “boost cut”, so I spent all my money buying a new turbo to I could make more power at the same boost and not get “boost cut”. I don’t have any money left to buy an ECU…………..

Do a search I will bet you find 50 posts with exactly that problem of misunderstanding. Which is simply avoided by using the correct terminology.

:ermm: cheers :(

    • Haha, i kow right? Could have bought so many cars for the same amount of money (or less) but driving Unicorn gives you at least +1mln to style 😅. Like wise man said "life's to short to drink cheap wine and drive boring cars" 😉
    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny
    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
