Hey Guys,

I have just sent my car to the mechanic and he will be looking at it 2moro but i would be interested to see what you thought of the issue i am currently having.

Basically the car runs fine day to day and the only issue i have is that when the car is pushed it starts to rev fine, but then around the 3500 - 4000rpm mark its struggles to rev and feels unwilling to rev (almost like petrol is not gettin through properlly) and then towards 5500 - 6000 it seems ok again. But my friend and i drove it the other nite and he could tell straight away (also a 32 owner) and im starting to worry.

It has been this way for a while but because i dont rev beyond 3500 too often i didnt pay much attention..

So yeah, any ffedback appreciated

Oh ok, i was thinking it would not be a major problem as in general the car is fine and the problem is only under hard driving in that specific rev range as i said. My main concern that it was not major as in like a few cylinder loosing compression and a possible critical problem in the block. But i guess i just wanted assurance...

cause wen i want to drive faster now i generally drive to 3500 which its fine to and then change, but in first gear off the lights its more likely to rev clean right through to 6500rpm and the problem happens more in 2nd, 3rd, 4th

I had the same problem with my r32 gtst. To fix it I made put the timing forward, the tiniest bit. and the problem was gone.

I checked all my coils and plugs and they were fine so this was a last resort.

It worked. *shrug* dont ask me why.

hope this helps

Hrrmm after reading this im not sure this would be my issue, ad the car only has a 3" cat back and pod filter...otherwise stock and has been all its life, i bought it in original nick with not a thing touched, and its never been boosted which seems to cause the problem with the coil packs due to the increased temp

Actually its interesting you say that, because my mate when i got the car helped me do first service and was suprised at the position of the timing as he used to hav a 32 and knew a bit bout them and did a lot of work on his car. Ill mention it to mechanic..

Also I have noticed when the car is just started (cold) and then driving it is more noticeable, it just seems really unwilling to rev, its like ur asking to much and the fuel is just sputtering in as u build up some revs so i dont push it, but i know when i tested it (a year ago when buying) we cold started and it was more than happy to rev hard and it pulled hard and quick, i dont know what spark plugs the mechanic put in it last time also he didnt use synthetic oil (which he will this time after i asked him to) but i doubt thats related

    • Just to be clear, there were no lights or codes when the hiccups were occurring. Also nothing noticeable in the cars' braking. It brakes fine and the dash is clear. I only made the connection when it did throw a code and suddenly, despite the lights, it felt great again.
    • Yeah they are sliders and this was in my head before I worked out it was the speed sensor.
    • Ok so we have a smoking gun.  A few weeks ago I had to replace a speed sensor that I'd fit incorrectly. I replaced the sensor and everything was fine with no lights or codes thrown any longer.  When I was doing some more bedding in yesterday I got ABS and traction control lights again and, considering when this happens those things are disabled, the pedal went back to normal with smooth braking and no hiccups.  The codes thrown are for the same speed sensor that I replaced. When I looked at the sensor I took out it looks like the tip of the sensor is damaged. So whatever happened to it, perhaps it has damaged the magnetic ring on the bearing (that I only replaced the other week). I'll get my boroscope in the hole where the sensor goes and see if there is any damage in there. Hopefully just the tip of the sensor is in there and the bearing is fine. 🤞🏻  It's worth noting also that the pedal hiccup happens more often and for longer periods now and totally goes away when the codes are thrown again which happens usually after 5 or so minutes of driving. Love all your help here as usual guys, thanks!
