Hi guys,

I'm in the market for a digital SLR and have some questions--hopefully some of you might be able to assist me with! This will be my first digital SLR camera and I would like something with a lot of versatility that would be good for lots of different shots. I'm, more or less, looking at a few cameras in the entry to mid level and haven't quite decided which route to follow in terms of buying.

I've kind of narrowed it down to two different options:

The first is to buy a "starter" digi SLR that I use for a couple of years and then buy something better. For this option, I'm considering the Pentax ist DL2, ist DS2, and the Nikon D50.

The second is to buy a slightly more expensive camera that I would be able to continue using after i've developed my skills better as a photographer. For this option, I'm considering the Nikon D70 or the Canon Rebel EOS 350D.

As I'm sure many of you have been in the same position yourselves, I'm curious to know what option you would recommend I go with or perhaps give any positive/negative experiences with some of the above (non-reviewed) cameras listed.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Moderators - I didn't want to post my question in the stickied thread since it has more to do with actual reviews than Digi SLR questions. If this is incorrect, please contact me or delete this thread. Thanks.

Personally I think the D70s/D80 would set you up well for the future, as the 350D/400Ds are a bit more basic.

Either way, stick with Canon or Nikon as you'll have a lot more lenses/options than if you go with Pentax
