forgive me for my ignorance

but ive only been in Aus for a 5 or 6month now and me and the fiance take regular trips to the gold coast through the week for a look around, only this week we were welcomed with "schooliesl" what the hell is it???

i thought it would be one big piss up for all the school leavers but as the police are involved and there all 17 the drinking may not be a big part of it(un like the UK)

anyone care to fill me in???

well i dont know if this will help but this is my interp for it

kids who finish grade 12 have the option to go to a thing called schoolies week which is on the gold coast its practically a massive piss up(u cant do it on the street though so they do it in there apartments)

people go there to relax after completing the final 2 most important years of there schooling in high school

they hold competitions and have bands playing and stuff down there to keep the kids entertained its just a place to relax meet people get pissed and have sex pretty much....

im 18 atm i had my schoolies last year so yeh for me it was just a time to go out with ur mates before u split up and dont see them ever day, and get pissed and ocasionally meet a girl down there

hope this helps

hrm.... i've always wondered about this toolies thing....

what 'defines' a toolie?

is it anyone over the age of 17 on the goldcoast during these 2 weeks?

my schoolies was 5 or 6 years ago... yet i have been down there during schoolies probably 2 or 3 times since.... but to go clubbing etc, not to try and get into some 16-18 y/o chicks apartment... though i wouldn't be complaining if that did happen :))

yeh toolies are considered to be any 1 who isent in grade 12 going down there doing the same thing as the grade 12s <--- if that makes sence

like i finished grade 12 last year and went i was a schoolie if i went this year id be called a toolie

but like jdfnq said toolies go there to start fights and pray on little girls :)

This whole "schoolies/toolies" thing really p*sses me off

I spent 9yrs living on the Gold Coast, it was my home & when Schoolies started ramping up we, the locals, were basically stereotyped as "toolies" regardless if we were doing EXACTLY what we would of been doing for the other 50-odd wks of the yr. If you're in Surfers during those wks for ANYTHING, you're a "toolie" etc.

What we got to put up with were hordes of pathetic, wannabe 17yo's with no clue & no respect for anything around them. Add to that the potential hassles from the cops etc & it really does become something to avoid. I still can't quite understand how such a minority group can be given such a free reign over a public space, especially considering their behaviour. Maybe they should put them all on an island somewhere & leave the rest of the public in peace. Oh hang on, the island owners DON'T WANT THEM EITHER!!

It does bring a heap of $$$ in though, & that is the ONLY reason schoolies still exists. I know this sounds very stereotypical & it's more a case of the few spoiling it for the many maybe but if you ALL understood the meaning of respect you would all be welcome. "til then, take your sh*t elsewhere........

schoolies = do not drive ur pride and joy thru surfers

Depends if you like attention.

I was down there last night in my car, and the amount of groupie love was awesome. By the end of the night I was getting sick of people yelling out “oi LXU55” (Lexus) and the ones that knew my name border lined on “stalkers” haha :)

Don't even bother trying to drive anywhere near surfers this or next weekend, I had to goto Sea World Drive to pick up some clients from Palazzo and the amount of imbred f**k-wit scrubs on the road has increased ten fold, this afternoon Southport Smash had no less then 6 tow trucks before the Marine Parade bridge that meets Southport and Surfers and those were going all day picking up the deadshits who tailgate and cause pile ups. Spoke to one of the truckers while waiting in traffic and said they had almost 50 cars come in and that was from Saturday morning only....

I think many of those toolies have serious issues. I went with some friends down the coast last year during schoolies and there were just lil hardnut wannabes and drunk horny 16 year old girls everywhere. I dont care if there legal i was 19 at the time and i thought youd have to be sick for someone my age to take advantage of someone so young and drunk.

    • Was going to say the car pulls up nicely everywhere, especially going into that last long right hander before the main straight. Looks like a lot of fun.
    • Hey Dave, welcome aboard! Good to see another soon-to-be Stagea owner here. The wagons are awesome — plenty of space, still got that Skyline DNA, and loads of potential if you’re into mods. Definitely post up pics when you get it, everyone here loves seeing new builds. What model/year are you looking at?
    • See if you can thermal epoxy a heatsink or two onto it?
    • The other problem was one of those "oh shit we are going to die moments". Basically the high spec Q50s have a full electric steering rack, and the povo ones had a regular hydraulic rack with an electric pump.  So couple of laps into session 5 as I came into turn 2 (big run off now, happily), the dash turned into a christmas tree and the steering became super heavy and I went well off. I assumed it was a tyre failure so limped to the pits, but everything was OK. But....the master warning light was still on so I checked the DTCs and saw – C13E6 “Heat Protection”. Yes, that bloody steering rack computer sitting where the oil cooler should be has its own sensors and error logic, and decided I was using the steering wheel too much. I really appreciated the helpful information in the manual (my bold) POSSIBLE CAUSE • Continuing the overloading steering (Sports driving in the circuit etc,) “DATA MONITOR” >> “C/M TEMPERATURE”. The rise of steering force motor internal temperature caused the protection function to operate. This is not a system malfunction. INSPECTION END So, basically the electric motor in the steering rack got to 150c, and it decided to shut down without warning for my safety. Didn't feel safe. Short term I'll see if I can duct some air to that motor (the engine bay is sealed pretty tight). Long term, depending on how often this happens, I'll look into swapping the povo spec electric/hydraulic rack in. While the rack should be fine the power supply to the pump will be a pain and might be best to deal with it when I add a PDM.
    • And finally, 2 problems I really need to sort.  Firstly as Matt said the auto trans is not happy as it gets hot - I couldn't log the temps but the gauge showed 90o. On the first day I took it out back in Feb, because the coolant was getting hot I never got to any auto trans issues; but on this day by late session 3 and then really clearly in 4 and 5 as it got hotter it just would not shift up. You can hear the issue really clearly at 12:55 and 16:20 on the vid. So the good news is, literally this week Ecutek finally released tuning for the jatco 7 speed. I'll have a chat to Racebox and see what they can do electrically to keep it cooler and to get the gears, if anything. That will likely take some R&D and can only really happen on track as it never gets even warm with road use. I've also picked up some eye wateringly expensive Redline D6 ATF to try, it had the highest viscosity I could find at 100o so we will see if that helps (just waiting for some oil pan gaskets so I can change it properly). If neither of those work I need to remove the coolant/trans interwarmer and the radiator cooler and go to an external cooler....somewhere.....(goodbye washer reservoir?), and if that fails give up on this mad idea and wait for Nissan to release the manual 400R
