Well. I think I did the best thing I could have possibly done. I went to Darra and it was actually a Truck inspection site so they didn't really know what they were doing.

SO...

I handed him the slip... He said that I needed to take him for a drive around the block to check it. BUT there were two trucks in front of me and only 30 minutes till knock off time.

So he took the defect slip.. Asked me to pop the bonnet. I think he tried to catch me out here saying that he didn't know where hte BOV's were.. could i show him.. So as the mechanic that I am.. I showed the inspector where the standard BOV is and showed him the one we took off sitting in the back seat.

Then asked me to rev it. So I revved it to 3grand and then let of slowely so it didn't make a noise and thats it.. I drove away!

And thats my exciting trip to DOT!

I was told its now illegal to have a bov that breaths out externally, it has to be plumbed back into the cars air filter.

they say its for noise reasons, but how is it that busses do the same thing at sound levels which cause your ears to bleed.

Atmo venting BOV's have always been illegal. They alter the air/fuel ratio as well as the noise associated.

It also must not be handcrafted to the extent that the car will be immovable if something breaks because you cannot get or make a replacement to at least limp around with.
    • Nah, I definitely do that kind of stuff with my car. I do drive it around as a daily! It's just that mindset about building a car to actually still use/retain it's function as a car is rare. If you modify your car into a weekender, IMO you've ruined 5/7ths of the fun. It should remain fun to do daily errands in.
