hi all

i have an r32 gts25 with the rb25de engine, sorry i am new to skylines only had mine for around 2 weeks.

what do i have to buy to upgrade my exhaust system?

do i have to buy na extractors or will the turbo one fit?

do i need a dump pipe?

and what type of exhaust will fit it, do have to get an na one?

if anyone can answer these questions it would be great!!thanks

and if possible can someone send me some links to websites to buy an upgraded exhaust?

are you doing a turbo conversion?

- you'll have to buy an exhaust system, to upgrade it.

- yes the manifold stud pattern lines up the same between the NA and turbo - just depends what it is you are after.

- a dump pipe will be required if you are swapping over to a turbo manifold, you will also need a TURBO!!

- you'll will need to know the size of the exhaust in order to be able to find one/buy one that will fit.

- you can search the forums to find an upgraded exhaust.

now that i've answered your questions, you can answer mine...

- how old are you?

Yeh im only 16, but i juust dont know much about skylines at all, as i really wanted to get an s13, but then i found the skyline.So i havent done that much research on it.

And no im not going for the turbo at the moment, just wanted to now where i can get an na turbo manifold and exhaust, and if i need anything else to get them to fit?

extractors/headers/branches are normally the name associated with non turbo motors.

manifolds are normally the name associated with turbo motors.

the names are essentially interchangeable.

turbo manifolds and non turbo manifolds are completely different physically, they are a totally different setup.

in a turbo motor, the exhaust gases feed into the exhaust housing of the actual turbo spinning the exhaust turbine, which in turn causes the intake turbine to spin, these gases are then expelled through the dump pipe/wastegate into the cat and then out the catback.

in the non turbo motor, the exhaust gases join and are directly expelled into the cat then out the catback.

they are interchangeable from catback (meaning from the catylytic convertor then back). anywhere from the side of the head to the cat itself is a totally different system.

i don't have the time to explain this in words, it's much easier if you sit down and learn first hand how things work from A to B, rather than skipping straight to C.

in a nutshell, you do not want an exhaust manifold from a turbo motor if you do not plan on having a turbo.. simple?

funny you should say that...

i recently co-ordinated the group buy for RB20/25 extractors a few months ago... needless to say i refuse to do further dealings with that company again due to poor communication efforts. they are however trustworthy as members of this board (myself included) have purchased a few thousand dollars worth of extractors.

i found myself constantly calling them, and enquiring as to progress reports and what not. i think everyone bar (chicane, who had a slightly more time consuming order) has received their headers. chicane has actually received his slip for the pick up, but due to easter break is unable to pick them up.

i know MissR34 has also contacted me regarding some new headers, so it's best if you speak to her - she might have sourced another supplier. that said if you really wish to purchase from the said company, PM me and i can supply you with details. you will however not get the prices i was able to establish.

aftermarket exhaust wise... not ANY will fit, it depends on that size... if you have a 2.25" system, stick to that. whilst a 3.5" one will fit - it will be less beneficial.

i suggest do some reading and learn about a few things before jumping into the deep end. you are young, and it pays to build up a little knowledge before handing over your money. not every mechanic and salesman is your friend, and not many of them will help you out like many of the members of this board. it pays to ask questions like you have done, ask smart questions and try searching these forums for your answers. more than likely they've been answered before.

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻

I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
