yep buy a local version. no real way to do it cheaply which is really what you are asking.

if it was an OE one I would have a crack at it. (Its not so I won't.)

hmm,so does that mean that it can be done,im not so concerned about the dvd player or tv,as i dont watch it while i drive ,or just sit in the car, just to watch it ,its more the radio, navigation, i was told that i can buy some thing to get the radio channels expanded,is that true?????

what would be your idea of cheap???, i had a look at the local version,at the time they told me around $3.000for gps nav, dvd, mini dics,tv,mp3,radio

HAY CHRIS

do you know if it's possible to hook up external mp3 player /ipod to the systen above

i had an external mp3 player hooked up to my last system in think i was a kenwood but i had to get a FM modulator

to be able to use it

i realise this system's different but l though i would ask before i pull half the car apart just to find out

it wont work

or anyone eles done anything similar

THANKS

Hey mate,

I have the higher spec'd version the AVN7707 Eclipse which came in my R34...also has MD, DVD, SAT NAV and TV but obviously the TV, DVD and SAT NAV don't work. Mine has a line out option which I plug my media player in to play movies, MP3s etc etc...its under the VTR option if yours has it...

To get the radio to work, just by an FM expander...Chris should be able to sort you out in tht dept. They're a nice unit, just pity not all the functions work in OZ.

AH SWEET .Yeah i got mine when i got my car aswell about 4years ago, just really never the time to pull it out to have a look at it

i got them to fix the radio when i bought the car,so that part's sweet

This VTR option you speek of,i take it its at the back, any ideas were, just asking,i'm sure i'll see when i

pull it out here's a pic i pulled from the wab

Hay i no with mine, while i was living in surface (surface paradise) i got tv reception,i used to watch some sort

When u select TV, there should be an option on screen called VTR which I think is equivalent to ur AV function on normal TVs...I can hook up pretty much anything to this eg: PS2, media player, laptop etc...and it will display under the VTR function.

yeah im with ya now

i pulled it out today, hooked it up all sweet

also realised i dont have a FM expander i have a japanese to english FM converter (made in new zealand) go figer

thanks for all the info mate

    • Bit of a pity we don't have good images of the back/front of the PCB ~ that said, I found a YT vid of a teardown to replace dicky clock switches, and got enough of a glimpse to realize this PCB is the front-end to a connected to what I'll call PCBA, and as such this is all digital on this PCB..ergo, battery voltage probably doesn't make an appearance here ; that is, I'd expect them to do something on PCBA wrt power conditioning for the adjustment/display/switch PCB.... ....given what's transpired..ie; some permutation of 12vdc on a 5vdc with or without correct polarity...would explain why the zener said "no" and exploded. The transistor Q5 (M33) is likely to be a digital switching transistor...that is, package has builtin bias resistors to ensure it saturates as soon as base threshold voltage is reached (minimal rise/fall time)....and wrt the question 'what else could've fried?' ....well, I know there's an MCU on this board (display, I/O at a guess), and you hope they isolated it from this scenario...I got my crayons out, it looks a bit like this...   ...not a lot to see, or rather, everything you'd like to see disappears down a via to the other side...base drive for the transistor comes from somewhere else, what this transistor is switching is somewhere else...but the zener circuit is exclusive to all this ~ it's providing a set voltage (current limited by the 1K3 resistor R19)...and disappears somewhere else down the via I marked V out ; if the errant voltage 'jumped' the diode in the millisecond before it exploded, whatever that V out via feeds may have seen a spike... ....I'll just imagine that Q5 was switched off at the time, thus no damage should've been done....but whatever that zener feeds has to be checked... • I think Fitmit had some, have a look on there (theyre Australian as well)
    • Hah, fair enough! But if you learn with this one you can drive any other OEM manual. No modern luxury features like auto rev-matching or hillstart assist to give you a false sense of confidence. And a heavy car with not that much torque so it stalls easily.
    • Actually, I'd say all three are the automatic option. Just the different trim levels. The manual would be RSFS, no?
