Ok.

My gf's dad's project.

1. Take one 1946 Willys Jeep.

2. Decide it needs a makeover.

3. Buy 1980's Range Rover. Strip it, keep the chassis, drivetrain, gearbox for the Jeep

4. Buy a 350hp+ Buick v6 to scoot it along.

So the issues/questions are:

The current approach is to take sections of chassis of the range rover that need to be, and weld them into the chassis of the WIllys that way incorporating the strut towers and driveshaft etc while still retaining the strength of both original chassis.

WIth this approach the range rover chassis needs 200mm taken out of the middle. The driveshaft needs to be shortened. The strut towers and supporting arms/link brackets etc have to be re-welded.

Any engineers care to comment about the approach? Anyone care to comment about legalities? Could I just call an engineer now that all the bits are ready to go?

Basically, the owner is waiting to cut stuff so he can get the engineering advice re: strength and legal/engineering issues etc etc. What would be the best thing to do?
