Agreed

" Any pistons for RB25 will fit the NEO" yes but they will give a much different C.R. to a non NEO rb25

I wouldn't say much different but yes different. I was waiting for him to discover CR for himself. Also your machinist/builder can make whatever CR you want really.

I'll take photos of the rods next time.

33 Piston has a much higher dome than NEOs' I have a set of Venolias setup for a NEO if anyone wants them,New.

Cheers. :(

So I guess the chambers on the NEO are smaller then? I had a little taken out and with 87 mm bores and the wiseco's I ended up with about 8.75:1 CR.

thanks guys many valuable info here for the neo.

I have come up with a "mild" rebuild plan,

machining the block

wiseco pistons

shotpeened and polished factory rods

reground crank

upgrade oil and water pumps

Upstairs,

port and polish cylinder head

valve springs and retainers

camshafts

exhaust cam gear (is it necessary?)

let me know what you think.

cheers

Is 8.75:1 CR safe enough for high boost, say 1.5bar? if thats the case theres no need to use thicker head gaskets.

I would say do what VB says above, go for the RB30 block, it's going into a GTT right?

use a RB30 block, give it a general freshen up: hone the cylinders if needed, get the crank reground if needed and renitrided, put in new ACL race bearings, a DOHC oilpump, maybe a baffled sump(not really needed though), then upgrade your valve springs, get the cams you wanted and get the d-jetro kit for the PFC or the Q45 AFM and get the plenum you wanted

or just leave it as is, if you are getting a GTR  no point spending money, which you won't get back if you decide to sell and upgrade later on :D

the gtr I want is still a few years away (not an usual run of the mill $60k r34 gtr) so cant afford it right now. just want to play with my gtt for the meanwhile.

we've decided not to go down the rb30 route because 1st want to test good the rb25 neo really is (not many have been heavly modified)

2nd, might want to keep the stock plenum and many other ancillaries so to see how much gain just from running higher boost. after all im only chasing 350kw.

btw how many rwkw can a z32 afm efficiently deliver?

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
