Hi Guys

Just wonder if anyone can tell me the location of the sensor for error #23 - Steering Angle Sensor Neutral Not Present.

I have had my car to a workshop as the rear end tends to sway left to right, they have told me that this is the error coming up on their scanning machine but are unable to find where the sensor is located. If anyone could help that would be great.

thanks

Jaron

yeah dude, the sensor is behind the steering wheel, think its an 18 or 22mm nut?

It's round 8-10cm in diameter and 2-3cm thick

It's basically a round thing which moves left/right, it's black with a brown plug on it

If it's not there, sounds like someone might have to taken it out

If that's the case, get a lockbar kit and lock the rear steering up

If it is there, it's possibly not plugged in or faulty, check the plug is in, if it is, unplug and replug it

If you want hicas, just get another sensor, there should be a few available after people upgrade to non-hicas boss kits and remove their hicas

The above info is for an R32, which I'm assuming you have? it will be similar for an R33, but I'm not sure about an R34

Hey mate

I have r33, i will check behind the steering wheel tonight and see if the cable is plugged in. I would say it is plugged in but the sensor is shagged.

Any idea on how much a new sensor would be? failing that i might get a lock bar!

thanks again

Sorry to hijack a thread..

So HICAS does not go into a default mode if it loses signal from a sensor? i.e. if it loses steering angle or road speed signals, I would have thought it would lock at it's zero'd setting not just let the back wheels flop about..

Basically I was wondering whether to put my steering wheel/nonhicas boss kit on now or wait till I put my lockbar in..

no i don't think it locks, you'll find that if you pull the ECu or sensor, it'll start crabbing :S

Jack it up, remove the ecu and then try pushign the wheels, you'll see they will move slightly :S

What a stupid system, you would think that the engineers would have thought that if in case the ecu lost a sensor signal it would default back to "no steering added" or some such default.

Oh well, no steering wheel till the lockbar goes in :)

even with the lockbar I would strongly advise using a compatible hicas boss kit with your steering wheel. the hicas computer also control power steering function and you don't want to mess it up. :)

    • thanks GTSboy. My confusion at the moment is i am trying to locate the ignition, ECU battery power and the ECU negative The closest thing i can find is the for the S15 on Page 8 of the Wiring Specialties web page https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9F33_M_GgENQnZ6STMxVmVNd1E/view?resourcekey=0-eZ4nNRwRoqa1qvKlWWHm8A I cannot find the same diagram for the R33 RB25DET Series 2 dash plug pin out.... Do you know what the Pins? or know where i can find the same pinout diagram for the RB dash plug? Thanks for the advice on the box... i like a 6 speed so might be on the lookout or the box now.. a topic of discussion for another post...
    • Will have a look at that. I cant see any leaks
    • Put another overflow bottle (ie, a 1.25 coke bottle or similar) under the overflow hose and see if it is being pushed out there or if it is disappearing into the engine.
    • Staring on a stand is no issue. You just have to wire everything up, give it fuel and cross your fingers that the stand is robust enough. Arranging the inlet plumbing is often the hardest part, without any surrounding structure to hand some of it from. No need for coolant if you only want to run it for <1 minute. As to the gearbox - I think the little Aisin box is a bit stronger than the other small Nissan boxes that went behind SRs, but I wouldn't be too keen to test its limits with the torque of a boosted 25. I don't know if you can retain the box and the tailshaft. The box won't connect to the RB without an adapter of some sort, which is either a plate that will push the engine forward (which is not good for fitting it into the bay's available space) or push the box back, which messes with the box position and tailshaft length - OR - cut and shut work on the bellhousing, which is a long way from "least modification". I'd be buying a new 370Z 6 speed or similar, doing what has to be done to that to make it fit RB (ie, cut and shut bellhousing) and the requisite tailshaft custom/mods.
