Hey guys, at the moment im using the aerial cable as my earth for headunit, but now i want to use my aerial so where is the best nice and easy spot for new earth? I also want to run some of my guages to this earth also, Any ideas? Its for a R33 S2.

I have tried a couple spots around the bolts by the gearbox etc, no luck.

Cheers

Times three!

I sanded the metal ring part (after removal. Easy), stuck a bolt and washer over one hole, then sprayed the whole thing black gloss. Remove the bolt and washer, and you have a perfectly clean grounding point. Attach ground wire after re-installing it all and then spray or rub with some kind of lubricant (WD40, etc), which will stop the bare metal from rusting.

I tried the spot u three guys use, tested it with light n was ok the connected it up properly n for sum reason didnt work? I still duno y it didnt work.

Just to make sure we are talking about the same spot, one of the four bolts underneath the gearstick cover, beside the lower rubber part off stick?

make sure youve sanded back any paint that is at that point. bare metal is a good ground, paint is not :) by all means paint over it once grounded to stop rust. also make sure the ground wire from the head unit isnt dodgy. ive had one with a break in the ground wire before. would work randomly. replaced the ground wire at the plug - which wasnt fun :(

wire is all fine, dont think its an fuse problem as when i change back to my old earth it all good. Im really confused why when i test the point steve told me it shows its good, then I wire it up, none of the bolts can be earthed when i test with light. Its fine till i connected it lol. Then i take it off and that point is ok again

That quiet funny actually, because I wired up a head unit in my friends R32, and used the same grounding point as mine, which is the one were all referring too, and it didn't work either!

Very weird..

I just used one of the other screw holes that holds the rubber boot thing in place.

The mounting bracktes in the dash, to the left and right side of the head unit also work as an earth.

So i can use the earth point at the back of head unit then if i can earth to mounting brackets? I havent had a good look at it but i thought the brackets are all attached to plastic and not the body at all?

Yer... I probably wouldn't trust the brackets to be well grounded actually.

Failing the rubber boot surround bit, perhaps go for something around your handbrake? Removing the entire centre console at the point you are now is just a few extra screws.

Yea i had all that off aswell fitting switches in my console box. Il have a play around the handbreak in the weekend, I did try what Hellfire said at start but i had trouble geting dam footrest off, is there more than just 2 screws or what?

Also what is that thing underneath the console box? behind the handbreak a lil bit. Is that something to do with the airbags?

Oh i see, yea i took the front 2 off and couldnt get the footrest off so i tried hookin earthcable up to one of them bolts lol no gud, how does the foot rest come off? i used a bit of force but also didnt wana break it lol im gud at that haha.

    • So either way it is gearbox out and look what is wrong?  I know about the input shaft bearing. Even before swap/new clutch the it sounded exactly like this: So is that inout shaft bearing or the other was installed backwards?  And can some please tell me the part number for that input shaft bearing? The gearbox is small box from R34 N/A and number is FS5W71C. Thank you
    • I am yet to see anyone ever regret a quaife or helical. ...other than drifting/skidpan duties. I kind of want to upgrade my factory helical with a Quaife (but really it's not ultimately that different, and is a MASSIVE UNDERTAKING), that's how good the hype is about them, that I want to try them 'just to see'
    • D2 and Ksport are essentially the same thing and basically just generic Taiwanese manufacture. Better than ChinaBay crap, but... not top shelf. Öhlins have got to be some of the best dampers around, so likely to be a good option. It's going to get to the point though where I suggest you buy from Oz. We have at least 2x excellent options here. If I were you though, I'd be talking to KW about doing something for the R33. There's bugger all difference between that and the 32. In GTR land, anyway.
    • KW only offers a set for the R32 GTR. Popular options are D2 racing, Ksport or Öhlins. I have a D2 Racing coilover set, though I don't know for sure which one.
    • Well, the good news is you have more than one very good option for new coilovers in and around your country. Worth the drive over to KW to talk about GTR stuff.
