Hi all,

I just got a friend to come and take my car for a spin after I finished fitting my new turbo (KKR560).

Any way I have the "Heavy Duty Organic clutch kit (240rwkw), $335" clutch which I fitted not so long ago and going up a hill we had wheel spin in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th :S 1st,2nd and 3rd were definatly wheel spin as the back end was lively but 4th was more, hit 5000rpm then tacho bounced to ~7000rpm and then slowly moved back to ~5500rpm. So it was either wheel spin or clutch slipping. I unfortunatly don't have my licence so I really can't test it out to get further info.

I am lazy and haven't dynod my car yet but I would have to say around 230-240RWKW with 4.4:1 diff gears. As far as tyres go I have a set of 245mm wide Bridgestone Potenzas that are in fairly good condition. But any way I didn't think 4th gear wheel spin was possible with my sort of power so I am thinking it must be the clutch slipping.

So my question is, is there any one out there who has managed to make this clutch slip and if so what power was required. Also with my gear ratios do you guys think that was wheel spin in 4th or just clutch slipping. We didn't shift hard into 4th just soft then when VCT kicked in at 5000rpm the tacho went mad. Also.... it was bone dry.

Yeah sounds like your clutch is slipping. I have the old group buy 240kw one, and am currently running 242rwkw with no slip, but thats with a near stock RB26, so the torque curve is flat.

Maybe just pull the boost back a few psi at a time until it stops slipping, then organise a tougher clutch.

only a idea but may have turned tires a bit viscous with spinning 3 gears and when hit 4th was enough slipping on the tires to get them to spin for a little bit then got sticky again? also, i hope you had your car re tuned after fitting your new turbo if you are giving it a flogging, otherwise you will be up for more than a clutch

Jump in your car, start car, engage handbrake, place car in second gear, attempt to move off while keeping handbrake engaged, if car stalls clutch is good, if car doesn't stall and car goes nowhere clutch is stuffed. Simple yet effective test.

I took my car out for a sneeky run and it was wheel spin. Also no it wasn't from changing 3rd to 4th. I changed early into 4th.. like 2000rpm then put the foot down and waited till about 5500rpm and one wheel light up a bit then the other wheel started to spin then it grabbed traction.

Also Muz, the clutch is new I know there is nothing wrong with it I just want to know if I am making too much power for it. Sure your answer will tell me if the clutch is worn out but not if I have too much power for it.

I am running no boost controller so stock KKR560 actuator which is about 16psi in 4th and 5th as KKRs don't have a big enough internal gate to hold 10psi on a car like mine.

I get about 14psi in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and about 16psi in 4th and 5th but its a hell of a lot better than my old turbo (early KKR480) which I saw 28psi on stock actuator.

    • Yes I can see how that would put you off HFM, especially with the price of good quality brake fluid. From what I understand it as you say the BM50 is the standard BMC for a R32 GTR, I must admit I would like to go far a Genuine Nissan BM57, but lack of cash prevents that at present. With the price being so close between the genuine BM50 and BM57 a BM57 New it seems a better choice as you gain that 1/16 bore size with the BM57, I would be interested in how much difference you feel with the BM57 fitted. I am going to take SteveL's advice in the short term and see how much actually comes out of that proportioning valve vent and save up for the Genuine Nissan part. Thanks for clarifying the HFM failure
    • Thanks mate. I just got the post inspection 1/2 done from state roads when the starter motor packed up, either that or the car alarm system is having trouble.  OEM part number 23300-AA112.
    • Hi, I though I was coming to an end in finding a replacement starter motor for a rb25de neo. I came across a starter motor from Taarks and a message below stating: Direct fit. 11 Tooth count. All below part numbers have been superseded to 11 teeth. Can some body shed some light on going from 8 teeth to 11 teeth apart from 36-month / 25,000 km warranty for passenger vehicles to 12 Month Warranty. Compatible with the following Nissan part numbers: 23300-20P00 23300-20P01 23300-20P05 23300-20P10 23300-20P11 23300-AA111 23300-AA112 23300-AA300 23300-08U10 23300-08U11 23300-08U15
    • Low battery? Maybe check capacity? I know first-hand, on BMWs if your battery drops below 80% capacity, it starts causing strange issues.
    • 8.5 +37 = should fit rear, but I think it'll hit on front. What you want is low 30s/high 20's front, mid 30's rear. That 17" screenshot you posted looks good, I'd run it on my R32 (but that's long dead now). For tyre sizes, my rule of thumb is: 8': 235, 9": 255. But that's just my opinion. Nismo sizes: 18x8.5+35/18x9.5+38 is a good starting point.
